60.08 Shaft for a Sweeper

Recommended Posts

Need to replace an aging 60 that’s lost a lot of spin, lands where I want snd them rolls out a bit too far these days

likely with a Vokey SM8 60.08.  I’m a sweeper.  Like to pick the ball straight up and put it down and stop.

head and grind behind me…what should I be looking for in shafts?

The stock wedge shaft should be just fine which for most brands is the s200. There’s several different shafts approaches out there from go with same shaft as irons, or go same shaft at a flex lower (ie x100 in irons s3/400 in wedges) to same shaft as irons in the wedges you full swing.

Honestly anyone’s recommendation here is going to be as good as your choice in a blind buy. Unless you can find a place that has a fitting wedge that can have the shaft changes out and can test the shots you hit on the course your going to have to guess a little based on your current iron and wedge setup

Even a tool like the vokey wedge fit on their site won’t give you the shaft. It just recommends degree, grind, bounce

Same thing that you do in any club.  Weight, influence on spin and launch, influence on feel.   Basically the things that influence how the head is delivered to the ball.

Right.  I did that wedge fit.  Was surprised it didn’t recommend (upsell) a shaft

As stated above stock shafts are generally what people go with unless they play something very lightweight in their irons or simply want something different.  The head design(bounce and grind) is a bigger considerations.

This. It’s been awhile since I messed with the Cleveland wedge tool but it never recommended shafts either. Like vokey it recommended loft and the number of dots for the bounce.

Even at TPI they would recommend the S200 and discuss your preferences from there. For wedges normally used for full swings, they would agree with the same shaft as your irons. They feel the heavier shaft for partial swings provides better touch.
Even with light weight graphite iron shafts, I do like the S200 in wedges I rarely use for full shots. Still just a personal decision.
