Club Cleaning Tips?

Recommended Posts

I just use water and a toothbrush or sponge, and a Magic Eraser as needed. While playing I always completely clean off each club, including clearing all grooves, after every shot. I used to clean my clubs after every round, now I do it about once a week (every 3 rounds).

On the course and driving range, I use a 8oz bottle of Shout fabric cleaner.  It's about $3 on Amazon, and you empty out the soap and refill with water and a little detergent.  The top of the bottle has soft plastic bristles to clean your clubs and deep clean the grooves.  I've been stopped dozens of times on the range with people asking what I was using.  I then dry each club with a towel, and they are as good as new from that point on.  At home, I use a bucket of soap suds and a plastic brush to soak and clean when necessary.

Golfers Liftoff is the product which now I swear by, Dawn and warm water, was the old way.  Recommended by a friend, that stuff cleans grips like no other.  Tried on clubs that have been sitting around, grips ended up feeling like new, spray and wipe and done.  Definitely worth the $10.

OMG! Is that stuff still around?  I remember an old Don Knotts movie...some sort of ghost in a haunted house where there was an organ playing in the old tower and one character always made reference they tried to clean the blood off the ivory keys, and they even tried Bonami.  Don't ask me why that line stuck with me. But it did. So funny how the mind works.

The key is to soaking the heads in hot water and then I just use dawn and a toothbrush.

Yeah it was (and the movie was from 1947). If I remember correctly- the show was in a house on the seaside overlooking a cliff. Yes we ARE dating ourselves but it was a good time (for the most part). I also remember Dark Shadows (w Jonathan Frith as Barnabas Collins) and I Dream of Jeannie and Get Smart, Gilligans Island, Petticoat Junction and...........

I really like that Shout fabric cleaner bottle idea. Gonna try it. Because a wet towel dry up pretty fast sometimes. Handy to have a bottle of water with a brush!

Great TV Shows @Merlin1313, loved I Dream of Jeannie.Sometimes on Great American Family channel on weekends. Gilligans Island on Sundance TV & Petticoat Junction on MeTv on the weekends.  I usually catch Petticoat Junction on Saturday & Sunday mornings at 6am, before heading to course 🤣.  Also watch Bewitched & the old Perry Mason tv shows almost everyday! I remember Dark Shadows coming on tv at 4pm every weekday, we'd rush home from school to watch it. LOL.

Thank you all for the tips.  I wash my clubs during play and make sure they are clean before and after each shot with a wet towel and plastic brush. Then I bring them inside and clean them once or twice a month and usually just with water and a toothbrush or another plastic club brush.

I don't do the grips very often so that is a nice takeaway that I will start doing that more frequently.  I also like the idea of Shout cleaner.  I found one that looks like it will work well and I am going to pick that up and try it.  Playing in AZ the towels dry up in the heat and some places have club cleaners on the carts to help but not all and I don't always ride in a cart so this is a way to always be prepared.
