Pinehurst/Sandhills

Recommended Posts

I just booked our latest trip the Pinehurst/Sandhills area. This will be my 7th annual trip there. Looking forward to the ambiance, the food, and the GOLF!

Congrats! What courses are you playing? Our group was there a few years ago and we played the following (in order of the ones I enjoyed the most):

Tobacco Road - a big and bold design, I have never seen anything else like it. I also shot a really good score there.
Pinehurst #4 - beautiful re-design and I loved the way it played.
Pinehurst #9 - felt like a higher end private club (used to be a private club before pinehurst bought it). Not too many truly memorable holes but overall a good course.
The Cradle - was fun until it got super crowded, I didn't love hitting off mats but it makes sense for all the traffic they get out there.
Pinehurst #5 - was a little scruffy and felt almost like a municipal golf course rather than a resort course but it is great to play as a second round on a 36 hole day.
The putting course - a fun way to casually play with your friends and hit some wild putts.
..........
Pinehurst #8 - they are re-doing it so maybe it will be a little softer but I found this course to be sneaky hard. Way harder than #4. The greens just REPELLED shots all day and the back 9 had a super tough stretch of holes. I got really beat up out there and I took it personally 🤣

If and when we go back I want to get out to Mid Pines for a round, definitely go back to Tobacco Road and then play Pinehurst #3 for sure (I dig shorter courses) and maybe Pinehurst #1 as well. There is something that frightens me about Pinehurst #2 so I am not itching to play it.
