What is your driver for 2024?

I am currently going through a driver battle between a Callaway Paradym and a Wilson Dynapower Carbon. Numbers are basically a dead heat and I just require additional shots to see which miss is the best. The edge is currently with the Paradym.

I see a lot of posts mentioning shafts.  I have never been fitted and with my 90-95 swing speed (sometimes hitting a max 100-105) I have always just used the stock Regular flex on every driver I've owned.  Am I missing the boat not trying different shafts?  I currently have a PING G410 Plus with Alta CB Red 55 shaft.

It’s always smart to get on a monitor to confirm. You never know what’s out there until you try it. Most local demo days now all have reps with full monitor setups that you can get on for no cost.

I was fitted for the Tour AD IZ-6 in stiff myself. I swing pretty much exactly the same swing speed as you do. I wouldn’t trade that shaft for anything. Believe me, fitters have tried to get me into something else and failed. lol.

Thanks for the feedback Arod, I plan to retire in around 4 years.  Before I do I want to replace my whole bag and plan to get fitted when I do.  Given how much it will cost maybe I should do it in phases.  Probably start with Driver first, since mine is 5 years old.

I purchased a Ping G430 Max late in the 2023 season and only had a chance to play about 5 rounds, but was very pleased with the consistency and accuracy compared to my previous drivers.  I also noticed about a 10-15 yard increase in my drive yardage, of course that probably had a lot to do with keeping in the fairway more often.
Can't wait to play the G430 max for the entire 2024 season.

My weapons of choice:

Been hitting my Aerojet LS really well to start the year but was choking down a little so I went ahead and trimmed 1/2” off the butt. Added a couple grams of weight to the club head so we will see how my performance changes going forward. So far I’m really loving the Aerojet LS.

How forgiving would you say it is? Seeing you have an 8 degree, it seems not much, but I could be wrong.

Sticking with the Mizuno ST-X. It worked great for me last season, and I see no reason to mess with that.

More forgiving than you might think but yeah. It is not going to be the most forgiving driver out there.

I've just bought a new Cobra Aerojet to try against my Cobra RadSpeed.

Initial test shows that it's longer by about 10 yards and much more forgiving. I hit 10 out of 12 fairways on its 1st time in the bag.

Very impressed so far.

Well I purchased my Cobra King Speedzone driver in 2022.  I believe it came out in 2020.    Sooooooo!  by my calculations that means I have till about 2030-2032  before I have to consider buying a new one.  I figure it takes in reality  a decade or more, before club manufacturers progress to the point where any difference is actually noticeable, and would help to a small degree.

So I'm set!

Driver: Cobra King Speedzone

Irons:  :callaway-small: Mavrik 4-GW

  • 2 weeks later...

On the weekend, I finally received my Ai Smoke Max 10.5 degrees with Tour AD CQ-6 X shaft. Oh man that feels good and performs good. The ball flight got higher as it was on my earlier driver super low and penetrating. Also the dispersion seems to be good. I'm pretty sure that we are going to have many good years with this bad boy.

Here is a picture from the range session, one of the first shots
