Popular Post berkeleybob
Still at the sim range for a round, and I gotta tell ya. I’m starting to get cabin fever in there. The weather just refuses to cooperate in the mornings at the moment. Making par on this hole sums up today. Missing fairways and greens, and still eking out a decent score for myself. I’m frustrated that I missed pars too closely and happy that my recovery game is improving. That kind of emotional schism is amplified between two walls and a hitting screen. Still, 42/47 for an 89 is in the right direction. Hopefully the next round is outside, or I may end up shanking balls into the next bay. Popular Post Syks7
I did not follow up yesterdays good round with another good one today. 54/44 98 at good ol Woodley in a men's club tournament. Maybe my worst score at Woodley ever? Some of it was the 30-40 mph Santa Anas out of the NE -- which I discovered is the worst possible direction for the course. From there NE there are exactly three holes where I would consider the wind to be helping. That said, "me" was the problem today. You get kind of behind the eight ball when you start out with a septuple bogey and follow up with a snowman a couple holes later.... . Some ugly swings today and I think my body was just tired from 36 holes on foot in less than 18 hours. Normally that wouldn't be an issue but I've been on a particularly intense practice pace in prep for yesterdays round and I think I've just made too many golf swings in the last three weeks. Time to put down the golf clubs for a week or two. Far too many repetitive stress sore spots right now. The big win of the day was that I didn't mentally melt down. Just kept reminding myself that I played well yesterday and that I was just having an off day and despite the score I did hit some good shots -- just none that were strung in consecutive order. Popular Post Rob Person
Got 18 off this morning before golf duties in the afternoon. Our 4th no showed due to his lady boss rules, but we expected that. For sake of time, we played best ball the whole round. Gave away my TM burner 2.0 to a friend yesterday, and man can he crack that driver! Just glad someone can hit it, because it sure wasn't me! He's 6'5" and has a massively steep downswing. But it works for him, very well! He was pushing 230-250 yard bombs +rollout all day! Back to the round, out of the 3 of us, the other 2 drivers were mostly taken due to distance. (I only average 225-230) I held the green on a number of approach shots, 10 of the 18, to be exact. Again, between the 3 of us, no 3 putts. Putt of the day went to me, a double-breaker uphill then downhill for a 18' birdie. Had it missed, it would have been only a foot pass the hole. GiR 16, FiR 13, finished the round in 3h38m. Popular Post Prodigal Duffer
Took yesterday and today off for the kids’ spring break. Planned to play with them yesterday, but son was sore from rock climbing, so I went out by myself. Was okay off the tee, but reverted to my old ways with the irons. Made for a tough round, but ended up playing with a nice guy, so that was good. Had a shot at eagle on a very short par 5: Missed it two inches right, tap in for bird. Also made par on the no 2 handicap, and saw this guy on the no 1 handicap: Got home and did some iron practice. Popular Post BreakfastBall15
Just wrapped up 18 and it was a roller coaster to say the least. 45 front 41 back with 16 mph winds gusting up to 35 at times. Ask things considered it was a pretty solid round. My “strength” was my weakest part today but my wedges were on fire today. I watched that video Taylor Made put out with Rickie Fowler working on flop shots and decided to try it out. 2 hopped and stopped within 3 feet and another lipped out. Driving in the wind was filled with highs and lows, into the wind on a par 5 was one of my best drives of the day. Left me 220 out and made par from there. On a wind assisted par 4 I pulled out driver where it’s normally a layup hole, carried 320 over the water and set up for a chip and 2 putt par. Popular Post unccross
Got out for a round a daylight this morning in the rain. How did you play is a tricky question. I didn’t feel like I played well until the very end. I started on the back and I struggled hitting my driver. Ended up parring 4 of the last 5 holes. Shot 92. Best score I have had since starting back playing golf in November. Had 3 penalty strokes for hitting drives in the water and greens were recently punched and covered in sand. Under the conditions, I’m pretty happy with the result. berkeleybob, BreakfastBall15, ZackS and 9 others 11 1 Quote Jnr

Popular Post Syks7
Well... like a lunatic I woke up thinking "my body may be sore, but that's no reason to not go practice and figure out what went wrong yesterday." No need to take a break. I get to the golf course and decide, "No, I should just go play." Proceed to shoot 41/43 84 on the same course less than 24 hours after my worst round there in years. I hit two 300 yard drives today after never hitting a 300 yard drive. One right at 300 and the other at 312. Yesterday, I hit my first drive of the day off the inside of the heel into a pond. Golf is a mystery. It doesn't feel like much has changed since yesterday, but yesterday I had no feel and today I didn't even have to look for it. The problem has to be between my ears. Popular Post Preeway
Like I figured, today was a different day than Tuesday. Nothing felt right and it was a grind on almost every hole. It feels being able to look back on a round and know you shot 78 without your best stuff. My driver was all over the map with my shortest at 255 and my longest at 351. It was about 25°-30° cooler than Tuesday and I repeatedly failed to take the cooler temps into account when calculating my yardage. Also had a 10mph wind, most often in my face, as well compared to 0-5mph on Tuesday. Again, continually failed to adequately account for wind which combined with cooler air temps led to most approach shots being 30’-50’ away from the pin. And that was when I hit the green. Putter also struggled today. Had my first three putt with the Odyssey (twice actually) and speed control was a challenge. Hoping to is again a sign of things to come as I would be ecstatic if my bad rounds this season are in the high 70s. All in all, it was a great day and my first official handicap round for 2024 in the GHIN. I'm getting better about this but I do it all the time still. Same with wind.
