injectedcutty
As soon as Easter guests were leaving I was grabbing my shotscope, bag and out the back door for a quick 9. The course was empty, I got through the back 9 in less than 1.5hrs walking. I like the layout of the back 9, takes some brain power as there are alot of creeks and a lake to cross. Fired off a +1 due to a some crappy 3 putts. Had 2 birdies and 3 bogeys, should've been a -1 or -2 but that's golf. Popular Post BallsLeon
Walked 18 at St. Andrews this afternoon (no not that St. Andrews) and played from the Gold tees (Par 71, 4715yds, 63.3/103) with my playing partners. Ended up shooting an 84 (44 out, 40 in) with 35 putts, was feeling pretty good about this round until... I put it all into GHIN and saw the differential of 22.7. Handicap calculator says I should shoot >+11 from Gold (4715yds) so I'll have to clean up my approach and putting next time. Popular Post NubianRugby
Played in a tournament yesterday, had a great time, and hit some shots. My buddy and I were both bombing off the tee and he was smoking his 3-wood off the deck on the par 5s. Alas, the guys we got paired up with were very cool (and generous with their whisky) but did not contribute much to the scorecard and we came in at +1, but I was surprised the winning score was only -7/65. I've played in a bunch of these tournaments were the winning score was 54-56, so I know for next time if I can put together a foursome where I'm the worst golfer we might have a chance to win. By the end of the round it was up to around 48 — perfectly acceptable for this time of year, especially since we were walking. I drove the ball decently except for one ball OB that was supposed to be a fade bit didn't fade. Irons were, shockingly, the star of the show. Short game and putting decent. I ended up +9 for the round (17 holes — one hole was closed as they are resodding to green). A full 18 likely would have been a +10 81, especially given how easy the hole we had to skip is. Worst thing was a double and triple on back-to-back holes. Was definitely leaking oil on the last 3 holes — my hips, glutes, and back started to really tighten up on me and I struggled to finish a swing. Good day, though, and looking forward to getting this season going. It was a good opening day to the season. After a par on #1 to open the year, the resat of the front 9 was pretty shaky. Lots of 3 putts and mishits. Back 9 was much better, and I played even par for the last 6 holes. It was a course I don't play a lot, but one I want to get back to. Kenny B
13 hours ago, cksurfdude said: Played 9 this afternoon with my honey. Nice clear day with mild temps, but a steady wind came in which is into you on a bunch of holes. The Good: driver - 7/7 were good or playable ball striking in general one 8i approach got knocked down by a strong just, but hey it was a solid shot one 9i approach from 110 on a ball below the feet lie hit the green to about 8ft past the flag - made Birdie!! (.. well it is the shortest Par 4...) Putting - speed control was mostly pretty good on all the first putts The Bad: Green reading - was consistently over-reading break The two short Par 3s - not hitting my irons here solidly and missed both short right... Didn't lose a ball The Ugly: Short game wedges. No B's I honestly practice with my wedges way more than full swing, but I just farged (fancy Brit term ) every short near-green approach..... The Lucky Save: My wife claimed this honor after struggling a bit on the last hole .. then landing in a greenside bunker .. from which she hit too hard and the ball ran out and into the rough behind the green .. and from there she just kinda drops the putter onto the ball .. without really lining up it or anything .. ball rolls downhill towards the cup .. slows down .. takes the break .. BAZINGA!! .. into the cup and a "zero" putt hole for her!! Anyway like I say in the Practice thread ... Work In Progress! Oh PS: had been playing the MaxFli StraightFli "value" ball early in the season but today switched back to the usual MaxFli Tour CG - what a difference!! I mean even I could tell that I was losing distance with the value ball .. I'm totally guessing here but I'm thinking that to enhance "straight" they modify the aerodynamics and possibly also slow it down in an attempt to control side spin..? You have made a lot of progress Chuck!! I remember your early posts where it seemed like a struggle just to get to the green!! Great job! Looking forward to Kingsmill next month… yes, we can now say “Next Month”!!! 13 hours ago, cksurfdude said: The Lucky Save: My wife claimed this honor after struggling a bit on the last hole .. then landing in a greenside bunker .. from which she hit too hard and the ball ran out and into the rough behind the green .. and from there she just kinda drops the putter onto the ball .. without really lining up it or anything .. ball rolls downhill towards the cup .. slows down .. takes the break .. Martha has been using it; in a round with the Ladies League she had a difficult downhill shot in the rough just off the green. One of the ladies made a comment how hard that shot was… she dropped the putter onto the ball and the ball trickled down to tap-in range. Popular Post VernL4
I played a round on Friday, March 29th at my favorite course- Deer Track- near Frankfort, IN. The weather was awesome! My wife had agreed to drive the cart for me. We were paired with two nice guys in their 60s. One was a lefty and he could hit it long and straight! I bought a ball retriever over the winter, which my wife immediately latched onto. (More on that later.) I felt like I played decently. It was not my best round, but I had many great shots. I only hit 5 fairways, but multiple other tee shots were only a few feet off the edge, so I'm happy with that. My new driver is finding the fairway 37% of the time and has an average drive 16 yards longer than the old one. My old one only had a 23% fairway rate () , so that's improvement as well. I had two pars and two bogies, but sadly I built a snowman on hole #10. I had single putts on holes 12, 13, and 14, so that was excellent! What felt like the shot of the day was on hole #5. I used my 3 wood to hit my approach shot 185 yards onto the green. The ball curved toward the hole as it was rolling and ended up about 10 feet from the hole! (2 putted on that one, though) Now here's a review of the day from my wife's point of view. While in the car on the way to the course she had a Sharpie and customized three of the Maxfli balls that I'm currently testing. The two other guys were walking, so my wife took that as a chance to get some steps. She grabbed the ball retriever and would chat with the guys as they walked. She would disappear for a hole (or three) and then return to the cart with me for a while. I noticed that balls were accumulating in the cupholder, the storage area, and even the basket in the back. At one point I heard the lefty say that he had collected 30 balls while playing the day before. My wife said "I'm way ahead of you". I was honestly starting to worry that the owners were going to be mad at her for harvesting balls. She later told me that she had talked to the course owner's wife and she said "there are thousands of balls out there. We are not worried about what one person can pick up during a round as long as they are not slowing play". My wife had so many questions about golf on the way home. Talking about brands of balls. Talking about how cool her ball retriever is. Talking about getting a pushcart for me so that we can walk more. She also told me that I needed a rangefinder like those guys. I told her that's why I got the watch that I got. It already does all of that. She told me that it was the most fun she'd ever had golfing with me. I had an appointment on Friday afternoon, so I dropped her off at the house and took off. Below is a picture of the dining room table when I got home. She ended up finding 71 balls!!! It's going to take me some time to use all of them! She asked if we can go back next week! PrismFlopper
Played on Saturday at the local muni. Course was an absolute mud pit from all the rain we have gotten in the last 3 weeks. Straight outa the truck to the first tee. First three holes were just gross on all accounts on the score card and in my play. Basically tripled the first three holes oof. But picked it up and pared 4 of the last 6 holes. Ended up in a three way time with my playing partners and won in a closest to the pin putt off. Couple of real close birds with a few too many lip outs but overall not a bad day. Frustration really helped make those first three holes a disaster. Popular Post ParFore74x
My Sunday was an improvement over my Saturday round, which was nice. Arrived at the course about 10 minutes before sunrise and hit the putting green to get a feel for speed and my tempo. Definitely glad that I did that, I think it made the difference. Off the tee wasn’t terrible, wasn’t great either, and I was able to hit 7 fairways. Could not hit a green to save my life, including the par 3s. I was able to keep my putts at 31 with no three putts and 5 one putts. Final score was a 43/45 for an 88 with four pars and two doubles. Trending in the right direction, looking to find those low 80s this year. Popular Post ZackS
I got out and played yesterday and shot an even par 72, my lowest score in about 15 years when I was a scratch handicap. I hit it pretty well overall off the tee with the new TPT shafts I am testing but really struggled with low point with the irons until the last 5 holes were I finally hit some well struck irons. What saved the day was the putter, I can honestly say that it was probably the best putting day I have ever had. I had 7 one putts on the front 9 and they were not just 1 to 3 foot putts, 5 of them were 5 to 10 footers. On the back where I started hitting the irons a little better I made a few good long putts including a 40 foot eagle putt that lipped out. That one was a bit lucky as it would have run by probably 6 feet if it didn't hit the hole. In all I had 27 putts, even if you include the holes I putted from just off the green it would be 30 putts. Probably just be coincidence but this was my first round with the Taylormade TP5 Pix which I mainly decided to go with for the Pix design with putting. Popular Post Rob Person
For some reason this didn't finish posting last night, and was still on the page when I logged in... so a day late. I'm tired, (see the how'd you practice thread for my pre round warm up) Was only supposed to play 18, but ended up playing 27. Front and back 9 I did great! (For me anyway) still kept it under 90, but not by much. Managed to play the same ball for 23 holes! (Qstar tour) Had some of my longest drives too ! Although dispersion wasn't great, I never ended up more than a few yards over the fairway edges. And also they were left side, which is weird as I've almost always had a right side miss. Even had a chance at eagle today. Twice!!! I've started tracking my shots more too. As you can see by my chicken scratch on the card. Putting wasn't terrible, but definitely missed a few opportunities too. For some reason my approach yardages were on the plus side of normal today. Consistently 10-15 yards past my normal range. Caused alot of past the pin and over the green shots. Leaving me chipping quite a bit. But alot of those let Me be closer to the pin. Almost had a hole out from 75 yards in too. the last 9 hole round was not good for me. one of the guys who I work with at the GC was also playing, and saw me getting ready to unload. Said he needed a 4th. He understood my playing level, but insisted. So off to play another 9. Has a number of blow ups, and a few 3 putts too. Maybe I was just wore out, or maybe I had already cashed in all credits with the golf gods? I also lost 2 balls to two different water holes on this 9 holes. I was doing so well playing 1 ball too! Anyway, it was a great day overall. I've learned a few new things. See the pet peeve thread for some info on the first 18 ...
