MGS VCT Flights!

Thanks, Ben.  With these flights, etc in mind, should we post multiple scores, or just the pick of the week?  True system would say all, but for "tournament" purposes, it would be the best, since you will only get one assignment of points and not clutter up the scoreboard.  What say you?

Personally, I've been dealing with a relocation & the end of a long-term relationship 

This is the kick-in-the-ass I needed to get back to playing again.

I'll try to get a score posted by this end of this weekend & get back to playing regularly.

Leave it to The MGS Community to 'save' me

No worries. The system is designed to allow movement between the flights based on performance so if you play well, you move up flights. Thanks for asking!

Either approach is acceptable, but I will only be taking the best score from each member weekly for the season long points tally

@GolfSpy_BEN Dumb question: since we now have our MGS-specific handicap, when we enter our weekly score, do we put the handicap you gave us in for the Course Handicap? Or do we continue to use our own GHIN handicap?

You should be providing your course handicap which is calculated based on your MGS handicap index.   You can plug in the values here:  https://www.usga.org/course-handicap-calculator.html and get your course handicap.  For the handicap index put the value Ben provided.

Either way is fine, as neither is used in the scoring beyond setting the flights

Sorry Ben, a little confused now.   People are promoted/relegated based on performance;  shouldn't we use our MGS handicap to get our course handicap to get our weekly score?  And won't our MGS Handicap change based on how well or poorly we perform during the season?

The intent of establishing VCT handicaps was for placement purposes within the flights. Once in the flights, in theory you are competing with other golfers whose average gross scores are similar. A hot streak of good scores can earn you a promotion to , where as a cold streak will result in a drop.

I believe what you want everyone to understand is that from this point on it is all based on gross scores posted. this includes points earned and movement within the flights. Correct?

In theory, but gross score variance will vary based on the difficulty of the course played.  For example my MGS handicap is 9.1.    On the black tees at RNK my Course Index is 14.  I can play an easier course with an index of say 7.   Pretty big difference in potential gross scores.  

Ultimately I am fine with whatever is done,  just trying to make sure I understand.

Play and post scores.  I think you will still post slope and info from whatever course and tee box.  It's all for fun at the end of the day!  I'm in top teir and know currently, me shooting my VCT handicap is low week in week out but it's part of it.

It isn’t a perfect system and there are limitations to it, but given the volume of complaints I received regarding Sandbagging/Handicap manipulation. We needed to try something different.

Scores are posted in the weekly VCT threads, as usual. The flights and weekly recaps will be be posted in their own thread

On the drop down, select MGS Virtual Tour.

Then select current week and it will be the top selection.
