  1. Update to CC5 It is with some sadness that I have to do this update as the competition this year has had to be cancelled. Due to delays in equipment arriving to the testers and our now shortened days for parts of the country and world it is not possible to run full proper competition. We had adjusted and made amendments to it back a month or so ago hoping to get 4 or 5 good weeks worth of competition, but sadly with a few still missing clubs it just isn't possible. That being said our testers will be putting up full bag reviews of all their clubs over the next little while in the original testing thread as well as updating some of their thoughts and such here in the pre chatter thread. The competitors already have been informed of this and are of course disappointed they weren't able to participate in a full CC5 event, but we appreciate all their efforts in keeping everyone informed and updated with how their clubs have been working over the last while. Sadly with delays we just weren't really able to get off the ground. This has also not been the only test which has been effected and as we have seen in some other threads many many manufacturers are having these same issues. This all being said thank you again to the competitors, thank you to Cobra for providing this opportunity and of course MGS for their support in providing the community with these testing opportunities. With that stay tuned for more reviews on the clubs some of which will be dropping this week!.

  2. Mentioned this in a. Earlier post of a few things I bought this week. This was the first one to arrive. Going to give the blade style a try again. Two putting sessions with it today went very well. Hopefully my league doesn’t get rained out tomorrow. I’ll put it in play.

  3. I don't know if the CCC5 guys will still have their sticks come spring time... This is how I picture @jlukes with his irons once the review is posted and he's released of his responsibilities: Hey, i guess since this is shifting to a review, we can bring back GIFs, right?

  4. Sad to hear this news. I was looking forward to the team competition and throwing my best at the competitors during weekly challenged. Hopefully next year will be better for OEMs and we will see lessened constraints on supply. But if the No Putts Given episode saying that balls may be limited in supply is any indication this might be an issue for OEMs next year too. I'm still very much looking forward to the reviews from the competitors. Hopefully you all were able to put the clubs through their paces and give us a good evaluation. How are those Big Tour 3 woods working out!? On the bright side, does this mean I am still your reigning champion? I can deal with bearing that weight for another season

  5. Not golf related at all. As some of you may know, I'm into BBQ. I've had 2 smokers, one a cheap offset and my current UDS (ugly drum smoker) that I built and have been using for years. I want to take my BBQ to the next level so I started researching what I wanted and came away with an insulated vertical cabinet smoker. From there I narrowed it down to Humphrey's Smokers, which are very popular around the competition circuit. I really would like their Battlebox, but at $2,300 it's way out of my $ range, so I looked at their Weekender series and it fit the bill. Long story longer, I happened across one for sale in NC for close to 1/3 the price, so I'm going on a 15 hour round trip on Saturday to pick up this beauty, which also comes with the cart, cover and a couple of other goodies...$2,300 brand new but 1 year old for $800.

  6. I have two sets of Arccos caddie sensors and I figured I could go down to one set now. The cost for you? Free99 (you still need to pay for a subscription) How do you get them? Simply post in this thread about why you want the sensors and how you’d use them to make you better. I will pick a “winner” on Sunday after the conclusion of the Ryder Cup and then ship the sensors free of charge

    Making my own putter #2

So I decided that, as most blade putters normally have something like a plumber's neck, I decided to make one to try on my own gamer. Need to order a shaft (KBS One Step probably) but it looks like it will sit nicely. The beauty of the way I've made this is that I can machine the location for the shaft to any angle to alter the lie. Right hand version done too Ordered a KBS CT Tour for the pro-shop demo and a One Step for my gamer..

  8. I wanted to show you an example of how much you can change with the Planemate. I've still kept in contact with Martin through CoachNow and kept getting his feedback. I've noticed the most improvement over the past year or so. The first video is what Martin, and his team, recorded when I first showed up at the Tour Striker Academy. The 2nd video is from 2 weeks ago. These are a little less than 3 years apart. I even got 3rd place in a member-guest tournament over the weekend!! Seriously can't say enough good things about Martin and his team! If you ever get to go to the Tour Striker Academy, remember you get FREE coaching for life! That's how I've been able to stay in contact with him throughout everything.

    How'd you play?

Was lucky enough to get a round on my birthday yesterday - beats being in work! Beautiful September day here in England, warm sun, no wind - perfect playing conditions. Had a lesson last week which highlighted a loose elbow so been working on that and starting to feel comfortable with the change. Started so well with a 280y 3h on the 1st, bump & run to 10ft but lipped out for a . Just went downhill from there and had no lucky breaks at all. Bounces left when it seemed impossible to not go right, odd bounces into bunkers, more lip-outs....hey-ho, onto the next game and, hopefully lady luck will be with me.

  15. I’m confident (or so I think ) my 2 year quest to find irons that fit my current game is done … got the G425s in the mail yesterday, and immediately visited the range with the 8i and PW. Happy with the range session and don’t want to get my hopes up, but they’re great thus far. Photo below is from 8i and I’m liking its ball flight and distance. Still working with the swing thought of “back like Finau, thru like Fleetwood” … my short term project with the Maltby TS1s, while lovely and feel amazing when well struck, I just don’t play enough to game them consistently … and they weren’t gelling with the above swing thought. Next step is to find a GW that blends well with the set.

  16. I wanted to post another update on this thread. I've been working on/off with Martin Chuck through CoachNow and with his comments/videos, and the Planemate, I've made HUGE improvements!! I can't say enough good things about Martin and his school!

  17. No, no... that's the end you hit the ball with. The other end is called the grip, and you hold that end in your hands.

  24. Fun day at the Ryder Cup today. The Euro's played all 18 holes but the US stopped after 9. Apparently they are saving their energy and trying to ramp up as we approach Friday. Highlight of the day has to be this super awkward photo I took of Rory eating a banana. Seems pretty ripe for some photoshop magic.

  25. The Ryder Cup rarely needs anything else to generate any excitement. Well except for maybe a Taylormade and MGS Ryder Cup Contest!! And not just any ordinary club, but add a TaylorMade SIM2 Max USA Edition driver to the mix as the Prize, and you have a really special Ryder Cup and contest. That's right one of the hottest drivers of the year, but in the Red White and Blue USA Edition that will be the discussion of your foursome. Here you go, very similar to the Majors Pools we did this year, you'll pick the winning team, and a player from each tier. Players get points for winning or halving in team and singles play. Points are given for choosing the correct winning team also. See Rules for scoring. So choose wisely, as this will be the last shot for Glory in 2021 and a chance to Rep the USA with an driver the rest of the year. Must be a registered member of the MyGolfSpy Forum and US Residents. Driver comes stock with no customization, to limited availability. Winner will have limited time to reply to request for shipping info before another winner is selected MyGolfSpy CORDIALLY INVITES YOU TO PARTICIPATE IN A GOLF POOL LIKE NO OTHER 2021 MY GOLF SPY RYDER CUP POOL -- for the -- 2021 RYDER CUP HOW IT WORKS Everyone picks a team of Golfers. 26. I've not been here long and not had a huge amount of posts but I like it here! I didn't join to get free stuff and it feels like a good place to hang out. I've been chosen as a tester already but, as previously mentioned, that could be linked you the content I was posting about most. I didn't even know they did user testing when I signed up so it was a real surprise to find out that if you're selected, they send you stuff, you test it and keep it! Bloody awesome..

  27. I hate hearing this, the Cobra Connect Challenge is the thread I love seeing every year. I feel bad for the challengers not getting to compete, but it'll be fun reading their reviews and I want to commend them on their patience with all the disruptions to the supply chain. I'm also thankful for MGS and Cobra continuing the great tradition of hosting this event. I believe it puts a great brand in the spotlight. Hopefully next year it'll be back to normal.

  29. That is some Sad development, I do hope that all of the competitors are still able to get their clubs and to play some golf with them this season. May I suggest that if next year we have another CCC, can we have two separated ones, one for the guys that would be part of CCC5 and one for CCC6? Both groups playing the same challenges, against their respective groups, so that way the CCC5 gents still get to compete?

  30. I'll give a more in depth review on the other thread but the Big Tour 3 Wood is so long off the tee, it really would be a good driver replacement if you find yourself hitting a 3 wood better than a driver. For me, it will be highly utilized on tree lined courses. Arccos shows it's only 13 yards shorter than my driver with a 6% increase in fairway accuracy. Is that a good enough trade-off? That's up to the player. I don't really hit it off the fairway just because I haven't really dialed it in off turf, but it's great off the tee.

  31. That's unfortunate and disappointing, but in the end probably unavoidable for all the concerns noted in APH's post. With delivery being an issue due to supply chain, it's not feasible or possible to have an event the level of a CCC this late in the season.

  32. I have no doubt this one has a lot to do with when we started playing as well as how long we hit the ball currently. I didn’t go to a 14 club set until I could break 80 regularly. Before that it was my starter set - 1,3 wood 3,5,7,9 iron, putter and some cheap utility set. I shot 35 on a 3,400 yard 9 with that set of clubs. That was in 1978. For the longest time I would have been on board for a 15 club set - I was a lot longer off the tee so my gaps were larger. Even as I got a bit shorter I had the grind, bounce issue to contend with. Then I started gaming SCOR wedges and that went away. Once I started to use a tracking system I discovered that I hit 13 clubs well and that any 14th club I put in I didn’t - why would I do that to myself? That’s the definition of foolish. I have a 14th club in the back and don’t touch it unless I have the exact yardage for it. That’s about once every 5th round. I pretty much use the other 13 clubs every round - interestingly I didn’t use 9 iron at all the last time that I played but I think that’s because we had front pins on jokes where I might have and I hit more PWs than normal. I’ve also found that irons are ridiculously over rated for a player like me - I use the fairway wood team and the wedge team as much or more than my irons.

    Sub70 golf

I just purchased the 699 pros. I went with a different shaft & I lost some yardage. Cody has been awesome in trying to figure what I should have. I love the irons and not sure I will go with another OEM brand while Sub70 is around. That company and those people get what customer service is all about.

  42. Thanks!! I will say that it'll take some time for the full swing. The chipping and pitching came fairly quick, but the full swing was a grind! My index right now took a HIT this year from trying to finish this grind! Honestly, the offseason is a great time to start the full swing if you have a place you can hit off a simulator indoors. I bought the membership at the PGA SS and started grinding there. No. Martin and I are focusing on a few small things right now and trying to let these changes settle in for a bit. If you're talking about where your weight should be in your feet, he has a test at his school to go through some of that stuff. That was nowhere near our major concerns when going through everything.

  44. I was going through my videos of yesterday's range session, and I was really on my toes. My pro came out and helped me with my move off the ball, and was noticing me holding onto the face instead of releasing the clubhead. I know no one said swing changes, and breaking habits were easy, but I was really close to just throwing in the towel. Today I am going to work on half swings and try to feel a punch shot to add some compression to my irons. Baby steps

  47. I'm just going to throw this out as a last comment on this. Now I am not professing that anyone needs to use new Pro V1's. I'm just pointing this math out should one choose to use Refurbished Pro V1's. Now I'm sure some can find them for less. Most places I looked them up on the internet, they are around 25$ a dozen for very good or "mint", some are more per dozen some are less. I'm going to go with 25$ a dozen, basically half price. I'm going to give two examples other than the Refurbished Pro V's. This is assuming someone will lose 3 dozen balls in 30 rounds. 30 rounds a year x cost per round +cost of 3 dozen lost balls divided by number of rounds again = cost per round 30 x $35(random cost per round)= $1,050 + $75 (3 dozen refurb ProV)= $1,125 divided by 30 rounds = $37.50 per round (this is including the cost of all lost balls. 30 x $35 =$1,050 + $150 (3 dozen new ProV)= $1200 divided by 30 rounds = $40 per round Now if Urethane cover is important to you, Dicks had Srixon Z Star XV for $33 a dozen brand new. (4 piece ball, urethane cover) 30x $35 = $1050 + $99(3 dozen lost Z-Stars) = $1,149 divided by 30 rounds = $38.30 per round. I'm just trying to point out that if you play more than 25 rounds a year, that the actual cost per round of using even new Titleist Pro V1's works out to about the cost of 1/2 new pro V1 per round, over 30 rounds. Given some of the recent articles about the "quality" of what you are actually buying, and getting with refurbed Pro V's, is it worth half a new one a round. And if you are not hung up on playing the Pro V1 name then Z-Star XV's will cost you 80 cents a round to play a brand new Urethane Covered 4 piece ball, instead of Refurbished. If you only play 5 rounds a year and are going to lose 2 dozen new Pro' V's then it would be cost prohibitive, and really increase the cost per round

    Vice Pro Zero

Interesting. The neon red is too dark for my taste, even harder to see than white. But the neon lime is money. I've been playing the Pro for few years now, so if I can get similar results for less money, I'm all in! Couldn't find the Pro Zero on their German website either.
