TJ Hall
1 hour ago, NubianRugby said: Club Hoes, I'm coming to the assembled masses for your wise counsel. I've been playing a lot over the last two years and I'm making progress on bringing down my scores, I'm shooting low 90's now. I should have broken 90 on Saturday, but I miscalculated my score, thought I was over and stopped concentrating on the last hole. Argle bargle!!!! I'm hitting my long irons better, a consistent 210-220 with my 4 iron and 190-210 with my 5. If I'm trying to hit anything more than 220 I'm pulling out my 3 wood (which has also gone wonky on me, but that's a story for another day). My problem is that I have a hybrid that I don't hit well and never use. I'm not sure what the problem is, I've tried to work it out on the range to no avail and the club is just taking up space in my bag at this point. Should I give up on the hybrid and see if I can find a 3 iron somewhere or should I try another brand or should I look into a 7 wood? Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and opinions. Try a Utility Iron…I have never been able to hit a hybrid but have come to enjoy the utilities with better success/flight than a regular long iron. The Titleist line is quite nice! 7 woods aren’t for me, but have seen many use them with great success. NubianRugby
3 hours ago, Javs said: Sounds like you hit your long and mid irons well. Also sounds that distance is not an issue for you. What is the lift of your 4 iron? Are you pulling out your 3 wood because you are inconsistent with it? How far do you hit your driver and what is the driver loft? If you do not like the 3 wood, then look at a 4 or 5 wood. Loft would depend on the gap you are trying to fill between your 4 iron and driver. Loft of the 4 iron is 19 degrees. I changed my setup on the ball 8-10 weeks ago and I've been hitting driver and long irons much better but I need to make another adjustment on the 3 wood to start hitting it consistently again. According to Lady G, I'm averaging 267 with my driver; it's a 10.5 that I adjusted down to 9.5. sirchunksalot, William P, TJ Hall and 4 others 7 Quote WITB Calloway Hyper X Driver TaylorMade SIM2 Max D Paradym 3-wood Ping G430 3-hybrid Ping G430 4-PW Ping 50, 54, 58 wedges Old ass putter from my old bag TP Hydro Blast Soto

Im going to suggest a Heavenwood which is essentially a 7 wood with a 5 wood shaft. Seems like right up your alley and you can find one for cheap on callaway preowned. Super high flight, soft landing and about 5 wood distance but even easier to hit. That or a 7 wood or 5 wood that is adjustable to dial it in. a 21* 7 can be adjusted from 19-23* and a 18* 5 wood 16-20* if it is a +/-2 hosel. I personally love my 7 wood and it is in the 215 carry area and I hit it more consistently than my hybrid, which I tend to pull if lower lofted. After returning to golf a couple of years ago I went through a number of hybrids and FW woods to bridge the gap between 3W and 5-iron. After buying a few 3H and 4H and not clicking with them, my coach let me try some options and I settled on a TM Stealth Plus 3H (used more as a driving iron replacement and rescue for unconventional shots) and a TSR2 7W. The TSR2 7W with 75g x-stiff shaft is my favorite club right now. I can fly it high with a descent angle of a 6/7-iron or punch it like a 5W. Stock shot is ~220yds high flighted, but if I punch it I can easily see ~240yds with a lower 5W-like flight. The 3H I have adjusted to 18* (19.5* is standard) and I mostly use it off the tee as a fairway finder. With it de-lofted, off the deck is a low flighted shot. It's great in strong wind! I have a P790 2UDI that I'm offloading as the Stealth+ is such a flexible and easy to hit club. I have an ~85g Hzrdus RDX Red x-stiff shaft in that. It's pretty close to 5W territory in distance, but an overlap with the 7W. Stock tee shot is around 230yds. Unlike the other hybrids I tried, my stock shot is straight to gentle fade with the Stealth+. I can easily hit a draw with it, but it's not the default shape like it was with the others. I dabbled with a Stealth 2 Plus 4H (22* loft I think), but the 7W is just a far better fit for me personally. As I'm so happy with the combination of 3H and 7W, I switched out my TSR2 3W for a TSR2+ '2'W (13*, adjusted to the lowest hosel setting @12.25*). I use it as a mini-driver really. The courses I mostly play on benefit from using it off the tee fairly regularly. Distance is a nice fit between driver and 3H (240-260yds). I haven't had the need to hit it off the ground at all yet as the 7W usually has enough range to get on the green, or a good layup distance, on most of the par 5s I play. For reference: My driver CHS is 105-110mph right now. End of last year it was consistently 110-112mph, but after a couple of injuries I'm getting back up there. Not sure if this helps, it's just what has worked for me personally. Good luck figuring it all out! I hope you can find a quick solution without buying and selling a bunch of clubs.lol I really need to look hard at a similar set up. This sounds awesome. Will have to take a look at your lower lofted 3FW. I have the stock 15 deg TSi as my 3W. Popular Post ParFore74x
I am always passively keeping an eye out for golf shoes because I don’t find a lot that actually fit well, work well for walking, and I am always trying to find “the deal” on shoes. I’ve been wearing the FootJoy Fuel for the last two seasons and really like them so when I came across a new pair for $70 on Amazon I had to buy them. They arrived today and are perfect….for me. Popular Post Paul Hedrick
Golf is, in my opinion, a very dynamic pastime. Things change; you get older, your swing changes, etc. What works well today, may not work well tomorrow. Recently some things have changed in me and my game. Firstly, at 68 years old, and diminishing muscle mass, I made the embarrassing move to the senior tees. It really hurt my ego, but if I want to keep playing, and I do, I felt it was necessary. The second change was I replaced my ‘goto’ driver, which I have had for many years, and was fitted to a new driver. So far, the results with the new driver are very positive. The Third change was I finally gave up trying to hit a 3 wood; I just could not hit one with any consistency. After looking around and hitting a few options, I settled on a Cleveland Launcher Halo XL Hy-Wood. It fills the void I had between my Driver and my 5 wood, and so far I am happy with it. My most recent change happened just this evening. I have been struggling with my wedge game. I have a 60 and a 54 degree wedge, along with my 44 degree pitching wedge. I can hit my pitching wedge really well ( most of the time), and have had some success with my 54 degree wedge, but not as good as my 44 degree pitching wedge. From reading, and talking to friends, that is a common malady among those of us with a handicap in my range. I have removed my 60 degree from my bag, and ordered a 52 degree wedge. The hope is with these three wedges, the 54, 52 and 44, I can get what I want out of it. I am honest enough with myself to take ownership of my crappy play, but am hopeful these changes will allow me to keep playing for more years. Will this current configuration of my bag be a final solution? Probably not, but for now it can only help, and I will make changes in future as needed. Forgive me but I'm a bit dyslexic and all I read was should I buy new clubs, which the answer is always yes. bama no 1, sirchunksalot, William P and 2 others 2 3 Quote G430 Max 10k 9° 3+ Hy-wood 17° 4+ Hy-wood 20° 4 Hybrid 22° Zx5 mkII 5i-P CBX 48°, CBX FF 53° & 58° Frontline Elevado Z-Star
Popular Post KC Golf
Just got back from a business trip and FedEx had delivered something from @rkj427 I saw this from pic from FedEx and couldn’t be more excited! It was well boxed and lined with paper This is the limited edition Scotty Cameron from July 2023 still in plastic and with an awesome head cover. It’s the Champions Choice Newport 2 plus! I can tell you that the pics don’t due it justice. It looks awesome! Along with a couple of other Forum members Robert allowed us to purchase these beautiful putters for our bags. I really can’t thank Robert enough for letting me game this Scotty Cameron. I will be taking it out on the course first thing tomorrow to see it in action. The look at address looks amazing. I use the Honma Big LB which is normally 14* turned down to 13* Its 100% titanium and an oversized 3 wood in between a typical 3 W and a Mini driver. Its really phenomenal. Couple reviews and there more vids on youtube https://www.golfmonthly.com/reviews/fairways/honma-tr21-big-lb-ti-fairway-wood https://golfersauthority.com/honma-tr21-fairway-big-lb-review/ The best part about this club is since this is he last batch of made for USA clubs Honma are making you can get these for VERY cheap. Like you can get the head only for $45 https://www.ebay.com/itm/375042774198 or with a Vizard shaft for $130 https://www.ebay.com/itm/387177723038 I bought the head, adapter and the below leather headcover/tool and used a Ventus red TR shaft I had. https://www.ebay.com/itm/334950256858 Not bad or a $350+FW wood from last year.
