MattF
Further to OG and GS Barba's posts regarding weight loss and helping each other out, I'm starting this thread in the hopes that those of us that need or could stand to lose a bit of weight will chime in. I really want to get down to 180lbs. I've been struggling with my weight for years and my lowest (about 6 months ago) was 199.2lbs. I've crept back up to 207lbs and am not really happy about it....but that's the holiday season. So, I'm thinking that those of you who want to participate can just post here, maybe what you're doing, eating etc or just a weekly/fortnightly weigh in. So that's it in a nutshell, chime in or I'll talk to myself. don2
I have used a low carb diet and had success. It works for me. Plus I feel full (instead of like I'm starving myself). Live longer! Oh, you'll also gain 20 extra yards off the tee and make more putt$. There's a lot of simplistic truth to this. Being married to a practicing registered dietitian has taught me one thing in weight management: know your portions. Portions are not the same as serving sizes! A portion of meat is 3oz, not a 12oz steak at a restaurant. Also, don't go through life restricting yourself from particular foods, just know how and when to consume them. Want to eat pizza? Great! Go ahead! But eat a big salad (go easy on the salad dressing) or a lot of vegetables BEFORE you start eating pizza. Want to eat some ice cream? Go with 1/2 cup of ice cream, not 2 scoops. Want to drink a beer? Sure! Just limit it to a couple here and there. Filling up on healthy foods before divulging into unhealthy foods restrict your intake. Low Carb, South Beach, Paleo, and yes, even Keto all work towards one goal: caloric deficiency. You either skimp on calories in carbs, fat, etc. There's no magic diet that provides long term results. They are all about immediate results but over time, nothing beats a balanced diet. What's a balanced diet? It's easy math. 1/2 your plate fruits and veggies, 1/4 plate whole grains (pasta, etc), 1/4 protein. Also, use a smaller plate. You'd be surprised how easy it is to eat proper portions when your plate is only 8" instead of 10" or 12". God gave us kidneys and livers to keep our bodies in check. Drinking apple cider vinegar, juice 'cleanses', alkaline water, etc is a waste of money. None of those have any scientific proof of being beneficial. Drink plenty of water, eat real food (in proper portion control), get plenty of sleep and stop going through life avoiding certain foods. Fun fact, the couple that started the Whole 30 diet didn't have a shred of nutrition education. So be careful what you follow and what you find on Google. Balanced diet and regular exercise goes a long, long way. Hit the gym, but just like your diet, figure out what works best for you personally and change up your routine from time to time. Strength training goes a long way in weight loss as well. Don't think that spending 40 minutes on a treadmill is going to melt away the lbs. It doesn't have to be bench presses and squats all day, but doing some body weight exercises and kettle bells/free weights can go a long way. There's so much free info on social media to get you started. YouTube and Instagram are a gold mine if you search for the PFS guys in Scottsdale or TPI trainers or guys like Kolby Wayne, Joey D etc. Heck, if you want to look like a freaking hoss on the course, search for the long drive guys' workouts. It's comical at times what they do to build core strength and club head speed. fozcycle, tommc23, KJG67 and 5 others 8 Quote Cobra Connect 5 Competitor - Team Chad King Radspeed 10.5* w/ Hzrdus RDX Blue 60 6.5 tipped 1/2" - Peacoat/Red King Radspeed Big Tour 3 Wood w/ Hzrdus RDX Blue 70 6.5 Tipped 1/2" King Radspeed Tour 5 Wood w/ Motore X F1 70 X Flex King Utility 4 21* w/ Tensei Pro White 100 X Flex King Tour MIM Copper Irons 5-G w/ AMT White X100 Onyx King MIM Black Wedges 55* & 60* w/ AMT White X100 Onyx Spider SR Pro V1x Left Dash Lefty
