Popular Post JFish350
3 hours ago, GolfSpy SAM said: Morning, friends! Happy to report that I can't stop thinking about the round I had on Friday, where I put the new Ai Smoke Max driver (weight set to draw) on the Maltby MPF Pro UL (Ultra Light) "Otto Phlex" shaft into play, and had the greatest driving day of my life. I've been dreaming about it ever since, and even brought out my net last night after dinner to hit a few more (I swapped to a lighter grip to get the club closer to D0 (C9) swing weight, as it was at a C4 for the round on Friday, which by most accounts is "too light") and see how it feels with the lighter grip. I can't get over the combo - I tried the Paradym head last year, but couldn't seem to find a shaft that I liked with it, so passed it on to someone else, but...good lord this Ai Smoke / Otto Phlex combo is fire. At least, through one round, lol. So now I have to wait until the next chance to get out to the range or course (Friday, most likely) to find out if it was just a Honeymoon phase or if this thing is for real. God, PLEASE let it be for real - I'm so tired of hating the tee box Happy Sunday - hopefully you get a little time to watch the Rocket Mortgage Classic / US Senior Open, or just hang out with the wife/spouse/gf/bf/kiddos/etc. I'm not kidding, by the way, when I say I can't stop thinking about this driver. I dreamed about it last night. All I want to do is go to the range RIGHT now. Lol. Who needs drugs? I've got golf. This is very interesting to me and also envious of those able to have this at their disposal. I used to love the tee box especially with driver in hand. It's so bad now I better better have a fairway on both sides to feel comfortable to pull the driver out. The envious part is having the ability to try a plethora of combinations. Correct me if I am wrong, but the majority of amateur players don't have that ability. I guess this is where club Champion or the like is nice. That said, I am not sure Club Champion would like it if I went in once a month to try different shafts. In my area I know the local big fitter just wants to pump out clubs off the rack. Don't get me wrong I am extremely happy when someone finds their best combo, I'm just jealous I didn't find my way into the golf industry at an earlier age. I hope it's its the real thing for you and not just a one night stand. LOL Byrnzee, Northern Monkey, jbern and 9 others 9 3 Quote Sub 70 949 D 9* HZRUDS 60G 6.5 smoke RDX shaft. The "Otto Phlex" thread (linked below) is an INCREDIBLE source of information, which is where the recommendation for the Maltby shaft came from. Also, it's a VERY economically-within-reach option (aka "cheap") - the shaft was $44.95, including $4.95 to have it cut to size and prepped for build (as I don't have a graphite cutter). The adapter sleeve was $11 (I think?) from Amazon, and as I already have another all-fit adapter (including all the cogs), the barrier for investment was VERY small. Obviously the Ai Smoke Max was not cheap, but: I took advantage of the 2x trade-in bonus Callaway was doing, where I traded in an old set of clubs and two fairway woods that didn't fit me for almost $700 worth of credit - Grand total for the Driver and two dozen golf balls was $770 including taxes/shipping, so ... for me, $70 was worth the "risk" of trying a new head. Basically, I'm saying the "Otto Phlex" experiment is a VERY cheap way to try out something you might not normally, especially as you can get the brand-specific tip from Golfworks.com (where I got the shaft as well) for a very reasonable price and either have them build it for you or just order some epoxy and do it yourself (as I did). I'm going to have to run to the hardware store at some point to replace a shower hose, it sprung a leak and is spraying everywhere. It's a bit of a disappointment since it's not a year old. I'm looking forward to a round tomorrow with some guys from work. Popular Post GolfSpy_KFT
Good morning MGS’ers! Pretty light day AND week this week and I can’t wait for it. Off Thursday through next Monday for a loooooong holiday weekend before my summer really ramps up with coordinating our annual employee biometrics starting towards the end of July and running through September. Going to get on the course at 10:30 for a quick 9 over an early/extended lunch. Went out and played 4 holes with my boys last night and a group of two dumb a** kids ahead of us I could tell were trouble. Got to the #4 green, our second hole, and there were tire marks ALL around the flag. Called the pro shop immediately to let them know and since we just had Tag Marshalls installed last week, they knew who was the culprit. They drove on greens 3-7 for sure, with the most damage I saw on 4 and 7. Not severe, but bad enough to damage the surface (thankfully no deep ruts). Our member/guest is in two weeks and they should recover fine, plus we have a great grounds crew. But just stupid. Hoping everyone has a great start to the week! Popular Post EasyPutter
Good morning MGSpies from a chilly for the season start to this Monday in WNY. Getting over a cold that started before the weekend but only came out in force on the way to playing in the rain at Thousand Islands CC on the Lake Course on Saturday with son Patrick. He rode while I drove and played 18 holes, well skipped 2, 10, 13, 15 and 18 because of well spaced out foursomes who were equally unphased by the continuous and at times heavy rainfall for the 2 hours 20 minutes it took for us to get from the first tee to retiring for the warmth and dry of the vehicle - if it wasn't the annual trip we look forward to each year it probably would have been let go as a bridge too far (on discount certificate about to expire). Still we had an awesome day and one he said was great. Just finishing up some work before heading out and making my way to the course. Tee time is at 9, it is an hour away and the car didn't fully charge so I may need to stop and give it a quick 20 minute boost. Maybe. Today marks 1 year for me writing on the main site. Which honestly is a little wild. I can't believe that I have had this opportunity to contribute to the main site and am truly grateful for all that I have been gifted within the MyGolfSpy ecosystem. This community has been thriving and gaining momentum, we have continued to expand what we do here outside of just posting. I get to work with a fantastic team on the forum and another great team over at HQ. For a long time the Forum and HQ kinda felt like separate entities and we ran parallel, but not necessarily together. That has definitely changed and the MyGolfSpy community is definitely better off for it. After a year worth of producing content for the main site I have managed to produce over 160 pieces that have been published. Many of them small such as the Testers Wanted, but some others that are longer and is just fun and cool to see. A huge thanks to Greg the former COO for opening that door for us. The Forum Member Recaps have been stellar and a real hit which I love to see. Hope everyone has a fantastic day and best of luck for all those out there golfing this weekend! Congratulations on the anniversary, you have enhanced the site with wisdom and great information and direction in the forum. Keep rocking it!! I(we) appreciate all you do for the community. Popular Post jbern
Good morning! Had a wonderful day yesterday. After I finished up my DF3 review post (GO CHECK ALL OF THE DF3 TESTERS' REVIEWS OUT, THEY ARE REALLY GOOD!), I mowed the lawn, fixed a damaged sprinkler head, then enjoyed the water and even went tubing with my 9 & 11 year old nieces (I'm feeling it this morning)! Started work a little early this morning because we had to take out minivan to the shop to get quite a bit of upkeep work done to it. It's got 150k miles and still runs & looks great, so we're trying our best to keep up with all of the recommended maintenance work. There's not a lot of people working today because of the July 4th holiday on Thursday, but I'm not taking any days off to help cover. That means things should be relatively quite around here and I should be able to get caught up on things! No golf on the agenda for today, but I am starting a new golf training program that is 30 workouts. Have a good day everyone! Popular Post Steve F
Good morning MGS Nation! Sorry for the absence for the last week: whirlwind at work and we took a surprise visit to my son for his 30th birthday in CT... what a drive. I don't know how you all that live in NY deal with that GW bridge on a daily basis, I surely couldn't do that every day! No golf since last league play, re-aggravated the calf so have been laying low on the activities since then to heal up better. Will have more stats for the DF3 testing this week... Hope all are well! Now, it will take me a day to catch up on the threads! Hit 'em straight MGS Nation, fairways and greens! Popular Post Byrnzee
Good morning Spies! Back to work after an awesome weekend of golf with @Swood1994. We played a local course Saturday, checked out the new Guinness Open Gate Brewery, and played Erin Hills Sunday. Weather was great all weekend and the golf wasn't too shabby either! Will recap both those rounds in the How Did You Play thread shortly. Luckily it's a three-day week before the holiday, so hoping it goes by fast. If work wasn't so crazy, I would've tried to take the day off so we could keep the golf party going, but alas. Probably for the best that my body gets a bit of a break. Had to share some pics/videos of Erin Hills - enjoy! Popular Post rkj427
Good morning Spies on what may have been a record setting low temperature July 1 here in the Motor City. Later start here for me today, but I was up and able to do some stretches and exercises to try and get my lower back pain alleviated, so I can resume some golf activities this week. Not much fun on the agenda today or tomorrow, as I was volunteered to do some work on both SWMBO and her sister's vehicles the next couple days. Thinking I will be doing them both at her sister's house, and with the sunny and cooler temperatures today and tomorrow it should not be too bad to complete outdoors. Hope that you make your day the best it can be, and that something fun and enjoyable is in your plans. Popular Post Preeway
Good morning everyone. First wake up at the lake and my bio clock made sure I was the first one up out of 20 people. Maybe one day I’ll learn how to sleep past 7:00 but that day isn’t today. We get the boat today for three days which is the favorite part for the kids. I’ll gladly spend my day impersonating a beached whale by the pool. Wait, was that a fat joke? Spent last night debating with my brother in-laws about how to best handicap my game when we play on Thursday. They all shoot 90-110 and I’m a 3 handicap so they want to play a three-man scramble against me with ideas like me hitting one shot with my eyes closed each hole came up. The last “not so terrible” idea we came up with was they get to pick one shot per hole, not chips or putts, where they get to adjust my shot up or down by one club. So if I was going to hit driver they could make me hit 3-wood or if I have a 9-iron shot into a green they could make me hit 8i or PW. Seemed more palatable than hitting with my eyes closed but I think we still have some debate left on their plans for sabotage. Hope everyone has a great start to their week! rkj427, ZJeb67, Rob Person and 16 others 18 1 Quote Driver: Aerojet LS, Ventus Velocore+ Blue Shaft - 6S 4 Wood: Rogue ST Max 16.5, Tensei White Shaft - 7S Utility Iron: Fli Hi 3-iron, HAZARDOUS Smoke Black Shaft - S Irons: JPX 921 Tour 4-P, Project X Shafts - Stiff 125g Wedges: 52º, 56º, 60º Putter: Ai-One 7 T CH, 34" Preferred Ball: Z-Star Diamond Pushcart: Nitron Rangefinder: Pro X3+
