Thanks again, @OdinSnipes414 for the team up. I know it was tough going against Team 1 but I think it made for some good drama. Great score! This was the toughest challenge for me and I think that's all because of club selection being very limited.

... Six of us MGS members were lucky enough to be selected to take part in the Cobra 50th Anniversary Special. We didn't pick team mates because essentially we are all on the same team. The competition was a ton of fun as was the trash talking. I hope most didn't miss the irony that my own team mate took the brunt of the abuse. Fwiw, I checked with CFreddie early to make sure he would not take offense and he said "Bring it!" That takes some Big Cajones.  

... All the joking aside, as others have said we are all winners. Some of us have a whole bag of new Cobra clubs and some of us have several new Cobra additions to our bag. I think most of us were not shocked at all but maybe a little surprised at how the performance matched up with our games. Especially if we had gone through a fitting and had our clubs right where we wanted them. I know I never expected fairway woods or a putter to make my bag. 

... So I want to sincerely thank my fellow competitors for all the fun and a HUGE thanks to all that members joined in, both in print and on the course. You guys took this challenge to a whole 'nuther level!

On top of that, there were a handful of new personal best low scores, which is an awesome feat considering the circumstances. 
 

I agree 100% though, from new clubs to breaking records to camaraderie to just the general knowledge some learned about their game… We all win.

Alright gang, here it is. Team one is gonna be TOUGH to beat. Career low 88 (first time breaking 90!) good for a Net -2 68. I know it’s a Par 70 course, but still an accomplishment! Now to do it at my home course!

I had a last-minute change of club selection. I went with Driver, 5 Hybrid, 8 iron gap wedge and the putter. I just had more faith in the Gap over the 54* Snake Bite. The round started off rough with a good drive and a then an 8 iron shank. Good gap wedge recovery between trees and a one putt scramble for par. I got my act together after the shank. So, I thought. On the next hole a par three 150 yard I hit the 8 iron left of the green. But the gap wedge to 3 feet fixed that. Eight iron went into time out. I was still worried because I was only making pars but on six I made a bird, then chipped in for bird on seven and managed another bird on the par 5 eighth. 

The back 9 was similar just pars up to the 15th hole. Then I carded another bird on the par 5 sixteenth and another on the par 3 seventeenth. All I needed was to par the 18th hole. Another par 5 that is a dog leg with an island green. But it was not to be. I had a good drive followed by a good hybrid. Played it safe in my head by planning to go to the center of the green because the flag was at the edge of the green just over the water. I only had 50 yards to the pin and I was worried about finessing my gap wedge to such a treacherous pin location. Hit it a little too hard and would up at the back of the green. I wound up lipping out my second putt. Finished with a bogey due to a three putt.

   

 

The surprise of the day was that I only used the 8 iron twice. It was in the first two holes. The gap wedge left me short putts most of the day. My longest putt was the birdie on 17. Hybrid into 164-yard par three and left with a 20-foot putt. 

I will try to get another round in tomorrow. 

PS: loving all the new grip I put on.

I couldn't agree more, Sam. This has been a fun competition and I would sincerely like to thank both MyGolfSpy and Cobra for putting this on. 

I'm thankful for the continued friendships that have come out of this thread and for the new ones that were formed. The participation has been incredible and I want to thank everyone who has contributed to this thread.

I can't say enough good things about the Cobra clubs. I feel like they have transformed both my game and my outlook of my game moving forward. Listen guys, no one knows how many times in the last couple of years that I have been completely discouraged with my game. It's been a struggle to want to get out and the only reason I kept going was this forum and the support you guys give. Playing in these challenges has brought fun back to the game for me.

I kind of digressed a bit there, but these clubs are awesome! The driver has been easy to hit long and straight, the fairways have been as good as I expected, and the hybrids are phenomenal!

The irons have performed so good. I think one of the biggest surprises I've had is how consistent they have been. Not that I expected bad performance, but considering my handicap going with stronger lofted player's distance irons I worried about contact and flyers. These irons are spot on. I know my 7 iron is flying 142 and it's hit the number several times. 

I love the wedges, they perform as well as I hit them. I've had a bit of the chipping yips lately and that's not on the clubs. I guess that's part of the game, one thing improves and another runs off on you.

The putter still hasn't really moved the needle for me, but I did see some improvement the last couple of rounds.

This has been the most fun time I've had playing in a long time.

Our pair of net 68s has to be the best out of the non-scratch competitors! Congrats on breaking 90! Next up is 80, come join us, the water is fine!

Won’t pile on with what Sam and Sir said, but I’m super appreciative of the opportunity. While the golf was great (and some of the most fun I’ve had in awhile), I’m most thankful for the community (even you @chisag) - I’m so happy I stumbled on this site just a few months ago. And finally, I’m now a Cobra-convert as well!!!
 

I’ve mentioned this to Sam, but I’d love to get a meet up sometime soon - I travel a good amount for work so I’m happy to come to y’all ( @Jnoble89- you’ll host me at Whistling Straights right???).

You don't know how bad I wanted to par or birdie 18. Too much adrenaline pumping having to go over the water I guess. I didn't expect to make the 60 foot putt back but I didn't expect the lip out from 5 feet. All good though, that's golf.

... Crazy how one bogie can sting so much. I didn't wanna cry baby when I posted my score and hard to tell from the picture but it was sitting about 1/4 of the way down in the front of this divot and squirted left, leaving a silly hard up and down with my 51* wedge. My only bogie of the round. Of course no guarantee I would have had a par from a good lie because the pin was in a difficult spot but it still sucks. Then again I did get a good bounce on one of my birdie holes so as you said "that's golf"

Thank you to Cobra Golf and the MGS Forum Staff for getting this put together.

We are 126 pages into this, and the challenges, banter, and comradery has been much more than I thought it would be. We poked fun, challenged each other to play our best, delt with equipment issues, weather issues, but in the end we all came out ahead. I went from not being a Cobra fan and did an about face. If you noticed I even had the AJ driver in the bag for the four-club challenge.

Thanks, Jason. It really is amazing how much my game has improved this year already and the Cobra Challenge certainly has helped with the fitted irons being paramount so far to my success. I hit some really good shots with my 8i today. Was able to control distances, for example feathering one to 149 yards pin high right on a Par 3 where I got great roll laterally towards the hole as I hit a soft fade, to hitting one 165 off the deck on a Par 5 after a not great tee shot and recovery shot that put me in position to get on in my 4th stroke with my 56 and put it 10” from the hole. I was just super confident in my ability to strike it and my GW today which was huge. 7 wood even on misses off the tee didn’t stray far from the fairway and most were 200+ even on the mishits. Best one with it of the day was 224 on the Par 5 second time through the 9 holes. I got up and down multiple times with my 56°, and rattled off three straight pars with one putts that all settled within a foot of the cup for tap ins. It was just a blast today. I still hit some less than stellar shots but overall easily the most consistent I’ve been.

... I think most of you know I am flying to Portland tomorrow for three probably 12-14 hr days shooting some more infomercials and commercials for my favorite Medicare Advantage Plans. But here is the BIG NEWS. Talking to my agent I found out they may be replacing Jamie from the Progressive commercials. I couldn't believe it! I told her not only do I know someone that looks just like Jamie right down to the haircut but he IS Jamie in real life and wouldn't even have to act!!!  So expect a phone call CFreddie!

... I hope you love performing under pressure. The last infomercial I shot I counted 47 people on set making it happen with just me on camera. It is crazy busy, all of them hustling and bustling about and then suddenly, dead silence and all 47 sets of eyes on you and expecting you to perform without making any mistakes.
