The Edison Challenge featuring Edison 2.0 Wedges

After a busy Thanksgiving weekend I got out this afternoon for some practice.  Lets just say the wind was angry!  Anyway I got some video of some 80 yard shots with the 53* from the green view with the assistance of SWMBO.  I thought it would give some idea of the bite and rollout.  I wish it had been a little warmer than the 42* with that wind.  I hit about 10 shots and the worst would end up pushed to the left fringe by the wind.  These were a few I kept on target and she was able to follow to keep in the frame as they hit.

Over the years I have evolved to a 3/4 swing when i use my wedges.  That yardage plus wind effect fit the 53* well yesterday.  That swing length has really helped my tempo and face control with the edisons to keep the ball on line to the target.  The lower ball flight from the Edisons was helpful in the wind to get consistent distance.  I only had one toey miss get too high and it still hit the green but left a long putt.  You can see it toward the front if you look closely in the one video.

Played nine today, with basically no one within 9 holes of me, so I was able to take additional staged shots with the Edison wedges. I am feeling pretty comfortable with them at full to 1/2 swings. Here are a few of the shots taken.

51* well hit straight approx 95 yds, landed on a small hill bit and rolled back to 20"

thumbnail20.jpg.96c689b1a2845a30d5fc83d131cb556f.jpgthumbnail22.jpg.c33ca3a7424a7f80d3b0d06e14e54ee8.jpgthumbnail23.jpg.53237beea60108131197b7af4c640db3.jpg

51* 105 downhill par 3 small kidney green water on left. Well hit 7' left of pin around 100 yds , thumbnail24.jpg.efeedce39fba1826984377d51ebe22e4.jpg

51* hit slightly fat (wet/soggy conditions) approx 88 yds and 10' left

thumbnail25.jpg.ddc76388609d4aefb9bc2b5b703a3a6b.jpgthumbnail28.jpg.4e705528c124e055b211e44064482a42.jpg

55* slightly fat again 62 yds 6' left

Basically, same results from both shots from different distances. They were literally 6' apart.

thumbnail27.jpg.22197fac810a476e466167facba0dbff.jpg

Here is a slightly more than half swing with the 55* smooth slight toe contact. 42 yards about 10' right on the apron.

This user struggles with wedge chipping and it continues with the Edisons. I did get 20 chips in when I finished with very mixed results, though the last 2 were better.

I played 9 today in some crazy conditions that made anything over 50 yards a guess since the range finder couldn't find the pin!   I somehow hit 7 of 9 greens and had two real crisp 3/4 53* and three flushed set pw shots that all ended up in the middle of the green.  I felt like I was keeping my spine angle and covering the ball pretty well with the ball heading toward my target line which may or may not have been at the flag!  I had a slightly toey 57* that stayed straight and ended up further on the green than i expected.  Another good performance from the Edisons!

I replaced all of my wedges with Edison's last fall after trying one wedge for a month last summer. I replaced my Vokey's, and noticed mishits were WAY better with the Edison's. I made more great wedge shots with the Edison's in the last two months of the season than I did with my Vokey's in the last 4 years. I love these wedges. The dual-grind sole is the real deal. I had previously had it on some Hogan wedges, also designed by Terry Koehler, but the changed weight balance on the Edison 2.0's makes them more forgiving than the old designs.

I AM NOT AN OFFICIAL TESTER…

I am putting all three of 2.0 Edison Enforcer wedges in the bag together for the very first time for the round tomorrow. Hoping they play well enough that I have to search for another reason in the bag for my recent stellar performances of mediocrity.😇

I got to play yesterday afternoon in some unseasonably warmish weather, 50* !  I had quite a few 65 & 80 yard shots pop up since the winter tees shorten up the course a bit.  Those yardages are a good fit for the 57 & 53.  I also had a few chip shots right around the green where I tend to use the 53 and I had one chip shot on a short side miss where I used the 57.

At this point I am very comfortable with the distance control on the 3/4 shots and with the feel around the greens.  I was 4/5 on the 65 & 80 yd shots at getting within 15' and converted 2 for birdies.  One of those 4 good shots was a bit toey and a little heavy but distance did not suffer because of it.  The one miss I got caught looking up and scooped a big fat divot leaving me an up & down chance.  I was 3/5 getting up and down from right around the green for par.  One of the up & down misses I got anxious, looked up waaay too early and fatted it about 1/2 way to the cup.  The other I badly misread both break and speed and even though I hit my target landing distance it ended up 10' away and I missed the putt with another misread.  Both misses were operator error and not club related (aren't they all!!  😁 ) .

We caught up with another twosome and I got his impressions of the looks of the Edisons and he hit a couple shots with them too.  He liked the look but they felt heavy to him compared to his light, graphite shafts.  He made decent contact but a lighter set up would probably fit his feels better.

They are keepers for sure.  The feel and distance control for me has been as good as anything i've played.  The reason they surpassed my gamers is the toey hit i sometimes get still gets to the target and isnt short & right like i usually ended up.

While I am not an official tester… I got a set of three  Edison wedges fairly close to when the testers were going full throttle on their individual testing. . My personal use and testing has been a lot more limited so far. Have only played 45 holes on my home track with all three wedges in the bag…

The ugly…. Having difficulty getting proper set up for bunker shots, after starting out two for two ( Beginner’s Luck ??🤔 ) Going to have to work on how “open” to have the 59°. Mishits in wet ground ( very rare occurrence in my part of Texas ) results in excavator type divots and little to NO forgiveness. To be fair, this happens with most of my mishit iron shots in wet ground.

The Meh….. Not seeing any reduction in altitude on wedge shots, especially full shots. I am still bringing rain.

The good…. The feel with the wedges is phenomenal. Love the grips and the specialty shafts. They swing so easily. They just seem to fall into a slot on the downswing. Very forgiving on almost all mishits except those occurring in wet ground. Gapping distance between PW and 49° has been markedly reduced. The stopping power is awesome. Hitting into a green is like hitting into wet cement.

Overall I am pleased with the start… Just need more actual course work with the wedges. The equipment can do just do so much in masking or alleviating a lack of talent.  The reduction of operator error is still on the operator

@Dead Solid Bogey i think the wet ground conditions is where you want to use the rear bevel on the sole.

Great job on the reviews and throughout this thread! I’ve enjoyed following along. I now have a good sense of what these wedges are capable of and I may give them a roll, once the MG3’s wear out. Good work gents 😁

@PMookie interesting results, good data collection from the trackman session.  Just curious, since you had gone through an extensive fitting with the edels, if there is a specific reason you didnt have the edisons set up closer to your edels with the 130x shaft selection and -1/2"  length?

@PMookie interesting results, good data collection from the trackman session.  Just curious, since you had gone through an extensive fitting with the edels, if there is a specific reason you didnt have the edisons set up closer to your edels with the 130x shaft selection and -1/2"  length?

Thanks!

Honestly didn’t know full spec’d-out wedges were available. I did the online fitting and submitted that as requested.

Thanks, Josh, I really hope y’all know I’m not bashing them in anyway!!!

You're all good, I don't think any of us took it as bashing! There's no perfect club out there that works for everyone and we know that. Your perspective is just as important as anyone's!

For this test I couldn't have matched your Modus shafts but I could've gotten you a 130 that was stiffer from the KBS line. I'm sorry we didn't make it happen, I'll shoulder the blame on that. I'm hoping down the line we can run another test and let the testers pick the shafts they want from any brand.

I would like to add that the Edison company in general and @Josh Ross in particular showed superb professionalism and patience in getting the shafts that I wanted for my set of Edison wedges. They kept informed of time frame and cost as well as return limitations.
The wedges are a thing of beauty and a joy to swing. Unfortunately, Edison was unable to pack a golf game into the box with the wedges. While I have only had a limited time playing them, it might be the holiday season, but I am optimistic that the minor successes that I have had with the wedge’s so far will continue to increase.

Hey everyone! As an appreciation to everyone that has followed along and been engaged with this review, we wanted to offer the wedges at their lowest cost ever for MGS members!
We currently have our Holiday sale where the wedges are $20 off, but if you use the code MGS23 you will get an additional 5% off of that! If you run into any issues or need help with anything, you can reach out on here.

Josh, will this be good for heads only too?
Also, I did the virtual fitting and got the automated recommendation. Is there someone to reach out to via email that can work with me to come up with more detailed recommendations? Thank you!

I also want to give a shoutout to @Josh Ross and edison as we had something happen out of our control and they were so quick to fix it! Great service!
