Very good article and I love seeing the short little videos of each move. Also nice to explain form so nicely. With twisting and bending movements that are important in golf strength training, form is key!

I did a leg only workout yesterday morning and I was beat by the end of the day. It was a set of squats progression, followed by a set of RDL & bodyweight single-leg squat to bench. It didn't sound like it was going to be an intense workout, but I was sweating like crazy.

Next workout is tonight.

My nemesis over the weekend was a bag of Reese's pieces eggs! Crushed the entire bag without much help from the family when watching the Masters over Saturday and Sunday. I didn't have any adult beverages so it was only 1400ish extra calories over two days. 🤷‍♂️

Got 16 miles in yesterday. Dedicated the run to the victims of the Virginia Tech shooting. My wife was at Virginia Tech during the shooting and she runs the 3.2 for 32 Remembrance run that was held by the San Diego Hokies chapter. We've done the run the past couple of years but with my training, I had to go a bit longer.

I remember this shooting very vividly. I was accepted to VT, but opted to stay closer to home and would've been attending at the time of the shooting. I can't imagine what she was going through at the time.

Respect to you for showing your respect to the victims.

Today's Workout: FFG Week 1/12 - Velocity Group A

Weight: 194

https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/14911684317

First day of Fit for Golf. The app says the workout will take roughly 45 - 60 minutes, and my clock still ran for 1:36 today without taking a lot of rest time (the protocol calls out for 45 - 120 second rests between all exercises). I kept them all at 45 to 60 seconds, with no rest time between warm up sets other than referencing my book to see what was next. Going to need to figure out where to cut or how to shorten it, as I won't be able to dedicate that much time 3x per week, plus drive time and shower. The app itself is OK, I'll elaborate more with updates in my testing posts. The exercises are targeting quick, explosive movements. I would not recommend this protocol to someone that is coming in off of zero training - granted, I put myself down as an intermediate/advanced user. I can see someone getting injured with some of the movements if they overestimate their abilities. Otherwise, I'm excited to see what gains the next 12 weeks will bring to my clubhead speed!

Weekend Caloric Intake - I enjoyed myself this weekend on both Saturday and Sunday, but tracked and hit a deficit on both days. A couple beers, vodka lemonades, pulled pork, and some other sh**ty-for-you food was much needed to add to the ambience of watching Scottie put on a show.

Friday In: 1,624

Friday Out: 2,820

Saturday In: 2,815

Saturday Out: 3,047

Sunday In: 2,763

Sunday Out: 2,994

It's been a few weeks since I posted in this thread, but I have been somewhat diligent in my workout program. A family medical issue got in the way along with finalizing a bathroom remodel, but I still got in 10 days in March. Things have lightened up in April and I've gotten in 8 days out of 16! My expectation is to rachet that up to 20 days this month.

I was nervous about walking Torrey Pines South today after my run on Sunday. I could feel how sore my hamstrings were on the hills but felt surprisingly well for most of the round. The last couple rounds at both Torrey courses have been surprisingly slow.

FFG Week 1/12 - Velocity Workout B

https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/14943918256

I skipped deadlifts today but will get them in tomorrow. 1:11 of total time when I stopped, I didn't have quite enough time for another 5 sets of work. I didn't have a whole lot of down time between exercises other than moving equipment around, rest was kept to 45-60 seconds. Definitely a lot to get in! @barney_bogey today I had progressive quarter squats (rack the weight on the safety bars at 1/4 ROM height and explode up) - 5 x 5 @ 185, 225, 275, 315, 365. I forgot how much easier it is to only do 1/4 the work!

Todays' Weight: 191.0

Yesterday's Calories In: 1,573

Yesterday's Calories Out: 2,998

Friday and Saturday I have a short golf trip with a bunch of buddies, 27 holes on Friday and 27 on Saturday. I'll have to stay disciplined and not enjoy myself too much with the swing lube.

@taylorjonasher - Not looking at all the numbers, but it appears your weight has been dropping pretty steadily this year! I'm sure you mentioned this in a previous post, but what's the goal weight(s)? Also, are you starting the Fit-for-Golf stuff soon?

@FallenSaber - How was playing at Torrey Pines? Do you get to play there often? When my wife and I visited the SD area we drove around Torrey Pines golf area (I wasn't a golf maniac at the time like I am now) and we did a hike starting at Black's Beach!

@jbern I'm down about 10 lbs since the beginning of the year. I have two goals; 184 is my intermediate / sustainable goal. After I got out of the Marine Corps, I hovered around that number for a couple years and remembered that I still looked pretty good at that weight (I got as high as 220). I'd ultimately like to get down to around 173, as that is what 10% body fat should be for my current composition. And yes - Fit For Golf started Monday! Today was day 2 of week 1 of 12. I like the variations that have been thrown in so far, it's primarily much lighter weight but done for speed; having the heavy work base already in place makes it pretty easy to adapt to.

@jbern I'm spoiled in that I almost exclusively play Torrey. I usually play the North Course and probably 3-4 times a year, I'll play the South course. I'll also play Coronado a couple times. The price for San Diego residents to play Torrey is hard to beat. The weekday twilight rate is only $32 for North and $40 for South. The back 9 rate which I usually play on the weekends is $35 but they only do the back 9 for the North.

The back 9 for Coronado is only $25 and that's for everyone. I think the rate is a little less for Coronado residents. I like Coronado but the back 9 on the weekends can be chaotic and is completely unorganized. In theory, you line up your bags at the 10th tee box and you should fall in line with whose bag is first. But when the starter arrives, people will mad rush him trying to say they're the first or second group. I got bumped from the 2nd group to the 4th group once because of people pulling stunts like that. Then when you tee off, you have a gallery of 36-40 guys standing around watching (assuming you're in the first two groups).

No workout today. I woke up feeling really drained, got to the gym, made it through my dynamic warm up, and said "F this today." Went down to the steam room and then stretched for 15 minutes instead and glad I did. Going to take today to recover - I've gone pretty hard three days in a row, and was up until about 1130 last night and up at 5 this morning. I regripped all my clubs Tuesday night in preparation for Friday and Saturday, and couldn't resist taking about 50 swings last night around 11 as I was getting all my stuff packed for this morning. Probably my fault I'm so tired.

I will try to get today's workout sometime over the weekend, but if it doesn't happen, it doesn't happen.

So I just tried to use a 20% coupon on Garmin, but it can't be used for non watches (Fenix, forerunner, or vivo only). If anyone wants to buy a watch in the next 24 hours (hint, hint @GolfSpy_KFT) the code is below.

They sent me a coupon for $450 off an Epix watch. (basically 50% off!) I don't know if everybody got that coupon or not. I'm not going to use it because I love my Fenix. The Epix is an incredible watch, though. DM me if you'd like the code.

The boys got gave me a pre-birthday gift, a cold. Hoping to feel well enough to get 12 miles in tomorrow. I'm falling way behind on my miles.

Today's Workout: FFG Week 2/12 Velocity A - https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/15021136982

Weight: 190.9

Feeling pretty confident with the movements, I picked up the intensity and the weight today. I still haven't quite figured out the app completely, but it's becoming more intuitive every time I get into it and use it. There are some things that I like, and some things that I don't, namely the lack of being able to enter a workout in after the day it is scheduled.

Had a great time this weekend with my buddies on our mini golf trip, but the weather was crap so we skipped our final 18 on Saturday. Friday was 50* with 35 mph winds and gusts up to 50 - it really kicked my butt playing 27 holes in that! Saturday we were supposed to have a high of 53 with winds only 10-15 and gusts of 25, but it never got above 43 while we were on the course - they did get the winds right though! Ended up deciding to go get drunk in a Mexican restaurant instead of getting punished with another 18. I played pretty well, aside from not making any putts. No three putts, but only two one putts all weekend. My 54* and 58* kept me competitive and got me up and down when I needed it.

I also did a really good job of tracking this weekend. I tracked everything I consumed and made sure that I stayed in a deficit, which is what I feel the best about. I was able to still crack several beers and enjoy myself without going over the top.

Friday

Calories In: 2,447

Calories Out: 4,572

Saturday

Calories In: 2,890

Calories Out: 3,472

Sunday

Calories In: 2,167

Calories Out: 2,516

Haven't posted here in a while. I've been keeping up with my workouts. Yesterday was a morning full-body workout and today's is an upper body hypertrophy workout tonight after the kids go to bed.

I'm going to try to get after it during tonight's workout because 1. I won't have access to exercise equipment on vaca in FL later this week and 2. I haven't been pushing myself as much during the workouts lately. It's time to change that.

Very impressive you were able to maintain a caloric deficit during a boys trip that included a few adult beverages!
