Let me start with conditions.  I think the photo says it all!

It is Key West and I've lived here for 17 years.  Originally from Western New York, you'd think I'd be able to take the "cold."  However, it's amazing how fast your blood thins out when you're in a warm climate!  That's the 8th hole which is a par 3 over mangroves.  

Today it was 62 degrees with 25-35 mph winds.  Yes, I have a windstopper heavy vest and a beanie to keep me warm.  You can save the sympathy comments!

Anyway, given the conditions, I played pretty good.  

I had only one missed fairway (and it was a doozie).  Again, I'm seeing some added length in my drives today.  Even with the high winds, my performance driving distance was 174 with a long of 185 yards.   That's good for me!

My approach shots were about average.  The 11% greens in regulation is about average.  What saved me today was getting up and down and my putting.   The six up and downs for pars did not include the three I had for bogey.  Together, it yielded a solid strokes gained for my short game.

The doubles I had were just moments of poor judgement and execution.   The 25 putt day was a good day, including a 22 ft putt for par on the last hole.   

I just hope that I can continue my decent play going forward.

What a round! Everything was working. My swing is starting to feel good again and I'm getting some distance back. Despite the front nine being 30 mph wind that always seemed to be a crosswind that pushed my ball near trouble, I managed to keep all my shots relatively safe. 

I even managed to get a "hole" in one!  I actually had to look up the ruling on something like this and it looks like I get relief according to Rule 16 since it's a burrowing animal hole (beaver in this case). Needless to say, I made a trip back to the cart for my ball grabber so I didn't lose it further in.

Much better. I still made 11 bad swings (perhaps I should say less than good instead of bad), but I made significantly more good swings. I figured out I hanging back on my right side because of my right ankle, so today I dropped my right leg back and “felt” that kept 90% of my weight on my left leg. I say felt because there were a number of times I could I had a really good weight shift. My bad swings were more of a tempo issue than anything else. As the round went on I had fewer mistakes so this was a very exciting day for me.

Wasn't a spectacular round but decent.  The driver was giving me fits today and decided it wan't to be a high, spinny fade type of day.  Not finding fairways made for a tough back 9.

I was able to shoot a 1 under on the front with 2 great birdies and a few missed putts.  The back was a different story.  Went bogey, bogey on the first 2 holes and then had pars other than the dreaded 15th hole.  I pulled a drive after having the fade all day and had to punch out sideways and it was all "uphill" from there.

Dag gum it!   Was cruising along -3 on the front and went 3 over on 8 and 9.  Ho hum back nine to finish even.  Putted well - guy I was playing with went -7 and I was just trying to hang in....still distance issues, a little better.

SOOO Nice today the local pro told me to play 2 balls since I had the course basically to myself... So I did. So I played 2 rounds in one 18 hole outing, Played pretty good, driving wasn't bad missed a few fairways by a yard or 2, approach shots could have been better, left myself some long putts. putting saved my rounds today, my lag putts finished on average in the 3 foot circle, which was good, but making all the comebackers was even more important and NO 3 putts!!

The confidence I have with this new Odyssey AI#1 CH putter is off the charts, if anyone has a chance give the new Odyssey line of AI putters a try, wont be disappoint in my opinion.!

I fell back to earth, at least for a 1/3 of the holes.  For hole 3-8, I was 10 over!  After I practiced my chipping and putting yesterday, it basically let me down.  

I hit all but one fairway and that was about two feet in the rough.  As I mentioned, my chipping and putting let me down.  After paring my first two holes, I was about 6 foot short of the green with a front pin not a lot of room to play with.  I had practiced my lob wedge on such shots yesterday, so I gave it a shot.  The pop up right (about 45 degrees off line) ended up in trap.  I blasted it out over the green.  After chipping it up close and one putting, it still was a double!  The next oar 4 hole I hit a great drive and seven wood on the green.   I was shocked as I'm never on.  So shocked, that I three putted the hole!  It went like that for the next four of the next five holes!  I was five over, for the rest of the round.

Greens in regulation was up a little, three up and downs were not up to my normal standard and 28 putts (with that 3 putt) should have been better.

So much for consistency!  +13 on the front and +4 on the back!  There's always Saturday!

Not great, not terrible

Putter was okay, 30 putts isn’t great, and it isn’t terrible. Irons were a bit of a wild card, as this was the first round with the new shafts. Not great, not terrible. I’m sensing a theme here. Driver did pretty well. Wedges were solid, as always. 
 

Beyond all of that, it was great playing an actual round in February, so it isn’t as disappointing as it might be during the middle of the season. Cest la vie.

I am not going to shoot the 200 net net birdies of the higher handicaps (whose handicaps never seem to lower) and I probably won’t win the tournament with my handicap. However, this was a great round! I hit 17 greens and the one green I missed I got up and down. Hit a par 5 in two and two putted for birdie. This round had no bogeys! Only 31 putts and much better putting round. A really low round is coming!

Finally got to get outside and play today. Definitely a bit rusty but the short game saved my butt. Only 28 putts on the day and had three lip outs. It was a great inaugural round with the Odyssey Ai-One. Probably won’t get out again until March so back to the hitting bay in the garage to work out the kinks.

first round of 18 i’ve finished walking in a while. felt great to be out, and even hit some good shots. hit a bunch of putts for par and bogey, which never gets old. controlled my speed a little better on the greens as well. Got a par on the hardest hole on the course for a net eagle, which was nice.
