Popular Post TJ Hall
Shot a 78 this morning…driver was a little wild, 3 wood was fantastic, irons were decent. Star of the show was the putter…had 30 putts overall, no 3 putts. Hit a number of decent length putts. The Ai-ONE is solid. Chubbs1991
Played in a little money game this am. 10$ buy in. 5 for closest to the hole on the par 3s and a short downhill par 4 carry is like 230 dogleg. Then 5 dollar skins. Only thing money today was my buy in. Had a nasty case of the pull draws with everything. Normally set up for a cut or fade. So it was a struggle. sirchunksalot, Josh Parker, MattF and 6 others 5 4 Quote Driver: Mizuno Stz Fairway: Titliest 9115 3 Wood Irons: Callaway Legacy Black 4-PW Wedges: Vokeys Putter: Phantom 5.5 Ball: ProV or Chrome Tour X
Popular Post silver & black
Played my second 18 hole round this year with my brother. I shot 39 both sides for a 78 total. It's amazing what giving up the ego will do for your game. I can't drive the ball 270 anymore. I can't hit my 7 iron 265 anymore. I just gave in and took more club than I'm used to taking. It is working out... so far. I seriously struggled with my ego and loss of distance the last two years.... especially last year. This year, I decided to table all that BS and just do what I need to do to get it there. It isn't that bad when you realize we all will get old/er and concessions will need to be made. I will be in the market for new irons next year, as I don't have the swing speed for the MP 64's anymore. Popular Post sirchunksalot
I got out today to play a new to me course with some friends from work. The course we played is Olde White Oak golf course in Athens TN and I have to say, I'll definitely play it again. I got to the course and I noticed two things. 1. It was pouring rain. 2. I had no Internet and couldn't use ShotScope. I almost went insane. The course itself has been around for a while and is under new ownership and they are working to improve the course. From what I saw, they're doing a great job and it'll be great to see where it is in a few years. As for the golf, I shot 60/59 for a 119. I couldn't tell you any specific area I was struggling in. I hit good drives, bad drives, good approaches, bad ones... You get the picture. I had a couple of blow up holes on 10 and 11. On 10 I hit a hosel rocket into a muddy area and had to chip 4 times to get to the green. I was living up to my screen name. It's a par 3 that's I made an 8 on. I was also +5 on 11 and honestly I can't remember what went wrong I'll just say everything. The coolest hole in the course was the 200 yard par 3 8th, I don't know how elevated it is but it is high up. I didn't play it well, I'm I enjoyed every moment. I did hit two greens in reg, the 12th and 13th. I made par on the first one and 4 putted the second. I can't complain, it was a wonderful time getting out with some friends. Popular Post Byrnzee
Played my first official round of the season in Chicagoland this morning. Decided to try a new course about an hour north of Chicago in Mundelein, IL called Pine Meadow. At least I thought it was a new course until my buddy and I pulled into the parking lot and determined... oh wait, we've definitely played here before. Weather was pretty chilly, mid 40s with some wind. When the sun came out, it turned into a pretty good day. Luckily I came prepared with a winter hat, gloves and many layers to keep me warm in between shots. Course was in great shape for this early in the season. Greens rolled pure and was a really nice day of golf once we got things rolling. The driver felt pretty solid all day. I had some shots that started right of target but were dead straight. If that's my miss, I can't be too upset about it. I had some trouble with approach shots to start the round. I'm going to blame it on no warmup + the cold weather because I couldn't seem to turn fully through the shots so everything was staying right. On the back nine I focused more on feeling like I'm making a shorter backswing and fully rotating through the ball. I had 5 straight pars to start the back nine, which was a great feeling. Ended up shooting 86 (43-43), which isn't terrible for a cold round to start the season. Hoping to fix some of those mistakes I was making and avoid the double bogey holes going forward. Goal for this season is to shoot in the 70s more often so just gotta take it one round at a time. Popular Post Jmikecpa
My hope of finally playing one round this year that was not in high wind and cold came true. I played in mildly cold temps with wind and rain . Actually played well and my short game saved me since the wind was just hard to read which made me come up short a lot. Ended up with a +1 73 for the day and it was just a grind that made me lean on the short game and putter. On a good note the mini driver is a keeper and hit it quite a bit off the tee including a 305 yard downwind bomb on a tight driving hole. Popular Post ParFore74x
Got out for 9 today in some chilly and windy conditions. Temps were around 42° and the wind was 16-21 mph. Round wasn’t bad at all starting off with a tailwind assisted par on the downhill par 4 1st, always a great way to start a round. Struggled to hit greens on 2-5 which resulted in four straight bogeys but I was able to get the wind at my back again for the downhill par 4 6th which resulted in a bird. Finished it off by falling apart a bit with a double, par, double resulting in a 43 for the 9 holes. The wind was definitely a factor today but the mistakes were still mine. A couple of rushed shots and a couple of shots with poor club choice. Still had a fun round so life is good. Popular Post Peaksy68
Somehow managed to sneak a win in interclub pennant. Scratch matchplay, struggled off the tee all day but short ame was working well. All square going up the last, opponent in very good position 30 yards short of the green, me in the trees 60 yards out. Had a tough shot, with very little margin for error, hit it to about 18 feet. Opponent thinned it a bit, to about 20 feet past the pin. He rolled his putt 3 feet past, I hit an awful putt about 6 feet short. Rolled mine in dead centre, he rushed his and hit his worst putt of the day. Really nice kid(16 yo) with a very solid swing. Popular Post BallsLeon
Had a 2-man best ball event out at Excelsior Springs golf course (6553yds, Par 72, 72.0/126) about 45 mins northeast of KC. Course was in excellent condition, great facilities, incredibly pure greens, and some interestingly designed holes. Weather would have been beautiful despite the howling wind, made it feel a lot colder than I was expecting. Playing with the same group from match play, and ended up getting paired with my opponent from last week. While he kicked my butt last weekend being in the fairway all day, we both struggled yesterday from the tips through the wind to find the short grass. We ended up with 84 (+12) for the day. Winners ended up posting a 65 (-7). Had a lot of fun despite not playing well. Been struggling to score well lately so my expectations are pretty low. I loved the 8th, it reminded me of the hole at the Gatlinburg municipal with the elevated tee shot. I didn't play any of the par three holes well, but at least I played this one better than the 10th. Stuka44
A LITTLE MORING GOLF STORY.......FOR YOUR READING ENJOYMENT! The day dawned chilly in N/E Ohio, then the wind blew even colder off Lake Erie. Powderhorn Golf Club, rough around the edges, but the fairways were in great shape, and the greens, were quite fast compared to previously. The cooler temperatures were not really a concern to me, as my brother and I play all winter long, if someone will let us out, often teeing off with air temps below 40 degrees. Hopes were high, it was a change of course(finally dry enough to risk it), but a place we play multiple times a year, and I know well. APPARENTLY on this Saturday morning, my number CAME UP, for the inescapable, unseen being(IT), VOODOO CURSE!!! I didn't suspect anything because I took a bogie on #1, the #1 handicap hole(OK), and then a par on a short par 4 #2. This is what "IT" does, so you don't suspect what is coming!! Holes 3&4, were allowed to proceed normally, not well, but without any exterior, malevolent force, that I could detect at this point it time. THEN THE ASSAULT BEGAN! On hole #5 a short par 3, I apparently was subjected to a VOODOO needle though the head, of my doll, because for about 6 holes, my mind was completely USELESS to recall, even though I have done it 100,000 times at least, HOW TO SWING A GOLF CLUB. For 6 holes every attempt to swing an iron, resulted in a shot projected off to the right at a 45 degree angle. Once this was over, the torture was a little more subtle. Apparently AT THIS POINT restrictive rubber bands were placed around the torso. No matter how carefully I planned out where I needed to land my chips/and pitch shots, I physically could not move my arms, enough to generate the needed momentum to carry the ball the planned distance, EVER. About this time the doll was apparently given to a VOODOO child, to play with. As would be expected with small children, VIOLENT SHAKING, AND DROPPING, ensued. The result was that apparently my head was unable to be maintained in a relatively still position, and was SNAPPING all over the place, and I hit about 9 balls off the tee, that barely made it to the forward tees...(I believe the last 4 years, I average 1 topped drive about every 3.5-5 rounds). And apparently after hole 2, the hands were pulled off. Because they were completely disjointed from my body. At no point was I able to communicate visual observation to them, NO ADJUSTMENT was able to be made, alternating between leaving putts, 6 feet short, or blowing them 6 feet past, with 40 putts overall (average is 33. something) . That my fellow Spies, is WHY you shoot 103, on a course your average 18 is 85. There was a sinister force at work, and nobody is going to tell me any different. I don't care if you blame me, but I sold my soul to have somebody else's doll pulled out of the bin next weekend! I DO IN FACT hope its "you", because I can't take the abuse again!!! Not really I hope nobody has to experience this. pete1276
Sadly, I've been really struggling this spring. The weather was half-way decent this weekend, and I feel like I wasted it a little bit. I am having trouble making consistent contact. I feel very stiff and my swing feels foreign and out of sequence. I just keep trying to tell myself that it's early, there are going to be struggles. The benefit is that my handicap has ballooned so much that they've put a soft cap on it, so really, there's only one way to go from here. I hope everyone else had a great weekend and was able to get out an enjoy some nice weather and play well. Jacob10
Was able to get 9 in on Friday afternoon, first time playing in 2 weeks. This was the second time playing since I cracked the shaft on my driver, so I skirted around with my 3-wood off the tee, mostly into a stiff wind. I usually get paired with older folks, but I got to play with a couple of younger guys, I'm 35, and I was keeping up with their drivers off most tees, 250+. This is the main reason I haven't taken the time to test other drivers since I don't need one from the back tees at my home course. Would it make some of the holes easier, especially into the wind? Yes, but it also forces me into fuller shots with longer irons, which I could use the work. On to the round. As you could imagine, I was a little rusty and tight from not having played and being sent straight to the tee before my time, and I bogey the first 2 holes, with not much good to speak of. After loosening up, I played 3-6 even with some good shots. I missed a par save on 7 after a duffed tee shot with a long iron. I doubled 8 after pulling my 3-wood into a penalty area, which has been my miss since my driver broke. I narrowly missed a birdie on 9 for a 41 with 15 putts. Not bad, not good but thankful to be able to play. Josh Parker, cksurfdude, MattF and 2 others 5 Quote Jacob
Golf88
shot a 45 on the front.....bogey every hole. Could not score/putt but then turned in a 37 on back because the putter finally started working. Been going back and forth between a blade (scotty) and mallet (spyder) but i finally think i'm going to settle in with a mallet. Just finding way more consistency in my opinion. I'm also not a great putter to be fair so any little bit helps. Michael.Sandoval33, Stuka44, MattF and 1 other
Jacob10
1 hour ago, Stuka44 said: A LITTLE MORING GOLF STORY.......FOR YOUR READING ENJOYMENT! Golf, like life, has a way of humbling us real quick. cksurfdude and Stuka44 2 Quote Jacob
Stuka44
I'm afraid to look if .... "Golf Bag Exorcism" is an actual thing on the internet.
