Popular Post edingc
Off the tee woes continue. Rained out Sunday but got out yesterday and this morning as there is rain in the forecast for tomorrow and Friday. Lost two balls off the tee yesterday and put another shot from the fairway in the water but still pulled out a really solid 39/41 -> 80. Irons were solid, short game and putting were excellent, and I was one lipped three-footer away from breaking 80. Today was worse, 45/44 -> 89 (with two birdies!). I was hitting my 10 or so balls on the range this morning and could tell my swing just wasn't there. Scraped through holes 1-3 with pars but then the game fell apart. Hooks galore with everything today. I should have stopped at the turn but of course I hit a good drive on the par 5 No. 9, hit the green in two and easily birdied it and I was optimistic about continuing. It was a pretty rough trek around the back nine but, again, golf keeps you coming back. On No. 18 I cranked one of my best drives of the day, hit my wedge a little too long to the back of the green but hit a downhill 30 footer for birdie to end the round. sirchunksalot, GolfSpy_SHARK, Shapotomous and 7 others 9 1 Quote Unofficial WHS Handicap: 7.5 / Anti-Cap: 13.0 (Last Updated Feb. 19, 2024) Driver: Callaway Paradym TD (10.5°, -1/N), 45.75", Fujikura Motore X F1 6X | Fitting Post 3 Wood: Cobra RadSpeed Big Tour (14.5°), 43", Fujikura Motore X F1 7X 20° Hybrid: PXG 0211 (2020 Model), 40.25", Mitsubishi Tensei AV RAW White 90X 4 Utility: Cobra KING Utility (2020 Model), 38.5", Aerotech SteelFiber i110cw Stiff 5-PW: Ben Hogan PTx Pro, 37" 7 Iron, Aerotech SteelFiber i125cw Stiff | Club Champion Fitting 50°, 54°, 58°: Edel SMS, V Grind, Nippon Modus 125 Wedge| Official Review Thread Putter: L.A.B. JerryB
Owen didn't want to get up so I walked River Heights yesterday before work. Walked up, mis-hit my driver and immediately put it away for the round. Re-teed with my 3 wood and played that the rest of the day, never really done that before. It was interesting. Took a few holes to realize that while my driver fades, my wood draws. Had a few rough drives where I would set up and swing like it was my driver, but when I was on, I was really good. Can't hit my six iron to save my life; keep chunking the heck out of it. Rest of my irons are slowly coming back. Wedges deserted me though. Either I wuss out and hit way short or I pull it long and left. Putting was hot and cold. Overall a decent day; 51/46 for a 97. Five pars and only two 3 putts. ejgaudette, sirchunksalot, Shapotomous and 5 others 8 Quote Cobra Aerojet Max driver Cobra Aerojet Max 3 wood and 7 wood Cobra Aerojet 4/5/6 hybrids Cobra Aerojet 7-PW, GW Cobra Snakebite 52° and 58° wedges Cobra King Stingray 20 putter
Popular Post ejgaudette
Go out this weekend, but have been busy since so I have not been able to shared. Front 9 continues to be solid. The first 3 holes were relatively uneventful with solid tee shots, and only needing to get up and down once. The par 3s on the front start at number 4 and this hole is by far the worst for me at my home course. I pulled my shot left again (done that the last 3 times) but this time caught the edge of the left edge and was able to two putt for par. Whew right, well then for the par 5 5th, a usually easy whole, well not today. Instead I made a mess of it, solid drive but then fated a hybrid into a fairway bunker, then missed the green with a wedge, bad chip, and two putts makes a 6. I was proud though that on the next hole after pulling my drive in the trees I hit a bit of a silly shot, but managed to find the green-side bunker, but hit a chunk and run to a few feet to save the par. The next par 3 plays to three tiers and can be tricky. I hit a massive toe ball, but credit to the JPX HM Pro 7 iron, the forgiveness on the two where there are no grooves is great as I still carried the bunker and it ran out to 3 feet for birdie. The 8th was classic 3 shot par 5 for par, and then got up and down from over the green on 9 for an even front. After saving par on 10 after an iffy tee ball, I hit two bad pitching wedges on the next two holes for bogey, righted the ship a bit over the next 4 hole, but two wayward approach shots and ok chips on 17 and 18 led to two more bogeys. So went 36/39 for 75. Was glad I kept the back from getting away from me and shot scope had my strokes gained approach at only losing 1.91 strokes in the approach which is still my worse but much better than the average of 4.5 I am loosing in my last 15 rounds. Feel like they year is off to a solid start. Some pictures below of some of the more interesting holes. Silly punch out but pulled it off Best shot of the day, even it it was basically of the edge of the toe cksurfdude, JerryB, Shapotomous and 8 others 11 Quote Epic Max LS 9° Ventus Blue 6X (2021 Official Review) | Epic Speed 18° Evenflow Riptide 70g 6.0 816 H1 21° Diamana S+ Blue 70 S | SMS 4-5/SMS Pro 6-PW Steelfiber i95 S (2023 Official Review) Glide 4.0 50°.12°S/54°.14°W/58°.6°T PING Z-Z115 Wedge Flex | SOFT 11S Super Stroke Mid-Slim 2.0 Hoofer Bag | Pro V1 | Right Handed | Tracked by V3
BostonSal
My game has been atrocious thus far this spring. I can't get loose. I'm sore all over. After sixty years on the course, I may finally be done. But I'm paid up for the year, so I'm still trying. Lately, though, I've enjoyed the meeting up early for breakfast more than the actual playing. Maybe some seriously hot weather will get me going. I've always played my best on the scorchers. Too soon to throw in the towel, but late enough to have to think about it. Popular Post DriverBreaker
Played a new course today. I didn't map it out and didn't have GPS on the carts, so I was flying blind in a sense. I enjoyed the company of the two guys I played with. Shot a +2 73 with a ton of putts that stopped center hole about 3-6 in inches short for birdies. Made lots of good par putts of 4-6ft as well. Holed out on the final hole for a par save after hitting into a hazard off the tee! ejgaudette, JerryB, DiscipleofPenick and 9 others 12 Quote Instagram: @tony_rosselli_ Training Pre training max driver speed: 124mph Current: 130mph WITB: Driver: G425 Max, 9* Woods: 2007 Burner TP 3 wood and 5 wood Irons: Z765 4-PW (1 degree flat) with KBS $-130 shafts Wedges: SM7 50/12/F, 54/10/S and 58/12/D Putter: L.A.B. Popular Post CarlH
I haven't been talking much about my game lately. Frankly, I was growing weary of talking about my poor play and I'm sure you guys were tired of hearing my whining Made a bit of a turn today and a little bit of the old me showed up. On the front 9, I was 2 over going into #9 when I hit a poor drive into the fairway trap, a poor shot out, and then 3 putt for a double bogey and a 40 on the front. On the back, I'm 1 under thru the first 6 holes (including the tough Lost Tres Diablos) when I come up short on the par 3, blade a wedge into the back trap, barely get out and two putt for yet another double. Close the back out with a 38 and card a 78 for the round. On the par 3 #4 playing at 163 yards, we had 3 out of 3 birdies for the team (playing low 2 net). Popular Post Tom the Golf Nut
Had a great time playing yesterday with @BIG STU at his home course. We didnt keep score and we didn't play our best but had a fun time. I got to see some of Stu's vintage clubs make their way in and out of the bag and I did manage to show Stu what my new driver can do. The weather behaved this time and we got all 18 in. Great to get out with a fellow Spy. It was also nice to have a course tour guide to tell me where to hit, which holes to club up on and such. The course had great layout but did need a little TLC. But value for the money was killer. It helps to know people who know people. The course owners took care of us. Stu decided that walking the course with his Motocaddy would not be in the cards in his future and since I did show a lot of interest during testing he decided to give it to me with the cart bag as well. That was totally out of the blue and shows that kind of guy he is. I was pretty floored with his generosity and he didn't want anything in return. He just wanted a fellow spy to use it. So I might be late to the testing party for this item but be sure that I will either do my review in the comments or unofficial review area. I am looking foward to seeing how this baby will do in the mountains of Tennessee. That was my concern back while the official tests were going on. Popular Post cksurfdude
Before I did something stoopit to myself the other day that will put me out of action for a little while (so this is the last long, boring story for a while ) .. I did get to play a few holes with my wife and friends in the annual community outing where they live. None of us are great golfers so we just decided to play our own informal scramble .. use the best tee shot, best 2nd, best approach. My contributions to the team effort reflected my typical golf round - either awful, brilliant or almost... For example... First tee shot = awful. Low, left into the trees. Not playable. Fortunately one of the ladies put us into a great spot for our 2nd shot! Second tee shot = brilliant. Par 3 about 160ish uphill to an elevated green, can't see the putting surface, pin front-right with a very deep bunker in front. Hit it high and straight and onto the front right part of the green. Then.. we all missed the birdie putt..! Third tee shot = awful. Low, left and short. My second shot was good but an almost as the other guy's was in a better position so we used his. My short approach ended up being the best .. online to the pin, but maybe 20+ feet short so another almost. Fourth tee shot = brilliant. Left the driver in the bag and took the old Bertha Mini and smashed it out there into the dogleg, left-middle of the fairway. My second was another almost - nice trajectory, great distance, just a leettle to the right of the green and into a tough spot to try to get up and down from.... Fifth tee shot = almost. Low, left but it was downhill so got some extra rollout. Other guy's was on the right side of the fairway and again in a much better position for our second. My second = awful (boy it's good to be playing a team scramble when you're not having a great golfing day!). My approach .. another Par 5 .. from the right rough was another almost .. the right distance but pulled left of the pin and ended just off the green. See? A little bit of everything in every golf round But then... I turned back to look at my alignment and swing path; I was standing on a mound facing uphill towards the green and where the ball had been was a little below my feet. Then... something in my left hip *popped*... So I spent the rest of the round driving the cart and drinking a few Buds!! Popular Post Alf. Friday Lost 5&4 in the Club Foursomes. Again no shanks from me but my partner off 3 did! Neither of us played well in windy squally conditions. Neither did our opponents but they did enough. Saturday Medal at club shot 78, out in 2 over. Struggled to get down on the back 9 but game improving. Enough to get a 0.2 cut to 6 dead on. Sunday playing my 1st round of Golf In Scotland Tour at Downfield near Dundee. Struggled all the way round, at 6800yds and with me struggling with distance I couldn't get anywhere near the long par 4s in regulation. Came in with 24 points, 159th out of 170. Only one shank but pretty destructive, put me in ankle length rough behind a tree for at NR at 15 Tuesday was the 1st round of Golf in Scotland over 50s Tour at Ratho Park. James Braid course that off the yellows play 5400. Was playing with a nice couple from Edinburgh and had a really good day. On the Motocaddy I felt I had not properly gave it a good test even though I tried. It did help me tremendously on my back rehab. Giving it to Tom will put it from one extreme to the other. What I did here was just part of my make up. I have only done 3 tests simply because newer stuff does not appeal to me and I do not want to take away from someone that would actually use the equipment. Of the 3 tests I have done I kept the Precision Pro Range finder and still use it today. The Renegar wedges I stored for a while and then gave them to a guy I know. I am glad Tom will use and further test the Motocaddy. He says he needs to lose 5 lbs but I can not see where but I will defer that to him. Maybe this will take off the last 5 pounds I'm looking to shed. Thanks again Stu Cant wait to see your thoughts on this as well. Was recently reading an article about calories burned/general exercise with a cart, push cart and a motocaddy. Motocaddy had the best elevated heart rate and calories burned (faster pace when walking normally not having to push) which surprised me. That plus the review has me intrigued on these now. Glad to see the cart stays with a fellow spy! Popular Post MattWillGolf
My round started with such promise. A tap in par on the first hole. The round descended into the depths of hell from there. The only fairway found with the driver today was on the first hole. Oh wait. I did find the 4th fairway off the tee but I was playing the 5th hole. My slice returned. My iron play was improved from my last round. I’m making better contact and fewer shots hit thin. I’m absolutely hitting my 4 iron pure. Putting was generally good. Only one 3 putt on the 9 holes and two one putts. My chipping was spotty. I was in greenside bunkers three times and was able to get out to makable range but two putted all three times. Felt that way last week and a few times throughout the years. But, it only takes that one magical shot to get you hooked again and playing like you belong on the PGA tour. Hope that happens soon for you! Popular Post MDGolfHacker
I had high hopes going into my league round yesterday afternoon. I thought I worked out most of the kinks after my Hindenburg-esque round last week but there were still some ghosts that showed up. The good news is the long and mid irons are working again and the distance control was spot on for them; enough to potentially get me a closest to the pin on the first par 3 I played. The driver was working for the most part. Not sure what happened towards the end of the round but I hit some really low tee shots (still in the short grass so a great miss!) I really counted 2 lost strokes that were due to the wrong club selection, 2 strokes due to poor wedge distance control (came up short forcing some long putts) and 2 putts that, well, I shouldn't of missed. Putting was decent with some long putts that snuggled up next to the cup. The half way decent round may put me in the running for some points and move me up from my current 28th place in the standings. So now I'm looking forward again to golfing next week! You Sir, are a good egg, as honest and sincere as they come. Passing on the motocaddy to Tom is just an incredible gesture. And also, you did the review more than proud, you may not have walked a lot of rounds with it, but your stories on using it at and around the practice facility provided a diffeent and often hilarious take. Love the time you were messing with it from up by the shop while it was on the range and the guys couldn't figure out what was happening...ha It doesn't need to be said, but I will. You are a true ambassador of the not just the site here but the game, and a good reminder for those of us that didn't take it up way back in the days of the way clubs used to be. Popular Post CarlH
Interesting round today. Shotgun start on hole 14 and I start out really badly, with 2 doubles right off the bat and playing 15-18 at 6 over. Then on the front 9, I have a couple of so-so holes, then birdie #4, double 5, then my putter gets hot and I go birdie, birdie, birdie and lip out my birdie putt on #9 for even par on the front. Back to finish up 1-13 and more mediocre golf to end up with a round of 81. The format was A/B player best ball plus the best ball from the C/D players (net scores). We shot a 126 (18 under) to come in first place and had 4 team skins. Popular Post Golfspy_CG2
Posted a bit of the highlights in the 0211DC review thread. But played 16.5 reall good holes today. Short story was it ended in a 91, but took an 8 on perhaps the shortest and easiest hole on the course, just tried a couple hero shots after getting in trouble off the tee. Then got a horrible cart path bounce on my approach to a par 5 from 160 out and took a double. Shoudl be good enough to get me some points in the net division and move me up into the top 20 in the playoff standngs. Funny ancdeote on my ball today. Used the same ball for 18 holes, but in the course of the round it: (shotgun start so we didn't play them 1 to 18) started on 8. Hit a cartpath and took a 30 yard bounce on the first hole ended up in the bushes behind the hole. Ended up in more bushes off the tee shot on 18, from there dned up 3 feet deeper in said bushes, then hit anoher cart path finally getting out of the bushes Banged off the flag and settled to 6 feet on a par 3 Hit two electrical wires crossing from the far right rough as it was headed dead center of the green on a par 4 Then finally round it's final resting place from 6 feet on the 18th hole of the round. This ball deserves a special place on my bookshelf for surviving all that. I tried to lose it so many times and it just kep turning back up cnosil, GolfSpy_SHARK, BIG STU and 8 others 7 4 Quote G430 Max 10K TSiR1 15.0 Aldlia Ascent 60g TSR2 18.0 PX Aldila Ascent 6og TSi1 20 Aldila Ascent Shafts R T350 5-GW SteelFiber I80 SM10 48F/54M and58K S159 48S/52S/56W/60B Select 5.5 Flowback 35" ProV1 Play number
