KJohns
Thanks for the opportunity to play a different ball, I more than likely wouldn't have played. I currently play Titleist AVX's generally, sometimes I play the Pro V1. I started playing more competitive golf over the last two seasons and have really tried a few different golf balls. In my bag I swing Ping i500 irons, vokey wedges (50,54,58), and a Ping G series driver (although I just bought the Cobra LTDx LS 9* driver). Last season I started the year off by taking advantage of Vice's golf ball sale, buy 5 get 1 free and I decided to play their newer ball the Pro Zero. Overall it was ok, and I really didn't give it much thought until later on in the season when I was playing much better. One day I switched from the Pro Zeros to the AVX and every shot I took i was flying the ball a minimum of 10 yards further than with the pro zero and at first i was scratching my head like "what am I doing differently?" Then i finally put two and two together and realized "Ah this is why they get $55/dozen". Since then, I've steadily used AVX's and Pro V1's and was sure to hop on their preseason deal of buy 3 get 1 free. So in due time, I am looking forward to testing these balls out. As a side note, I am unfamiliar with the term VCT (for testing purposes) can someone explain to me? I do own a Garmin R10 Approach which I was going to use to analyze the differences between the AVX and the Bridgestone balls. But if someone would be kind enough to explain the parameters of VCT, that'd be great. Happy testing! It's a way for MGS members to compete virtually by posting real and SIM scores. (Do a forum search for VCT and past entries will show.) The system is being updated/modified but, according to the OP, it should be available for posting by the time the balls arrive for testing. The VCT, or Virtual Championship Tour, is a MyGolfSpy series of weekly online tournaments culminating in a season long winner. It's a fun competing with people from all over the world. If you check out the MGS Virtual Tour threads you can see the results of the weekly tournaments, who was crowned the champion and the results for the season ending two golfer tournament that just concluded. I'd give you more information, but the format is slightly changing. The third season will start within weeks. The new format is expected to be announced within the next week or so. Golf2Much
Thanks all for the opportunity to test out the Bridgestone Mindset ball and philosophy. This should be interesting! As an introduction, I'm (soon to be) 68 years old and live full time at the southern end of US1 in Key West, Florida. That's me preparing for this year's St. Patrick's Day festivities and on the St. Andrews' Swilken Bridge just before the 2022 Open. I was born, raised and had my professional career in Western New York. I picked up golf as a senior in high school. My buddy was on the golf team and wanted me to join so we could get out of classes early to practice. I bought a used starter set off Wilson Sam Snead Blue Ridge golf club and bag for $10 and never looked back. I've been on the MyGolfSpy forum for over three years. During that time, I was fortunate enough to participate in two other tests, one of them being for the Shot Scope LX+ range finder with the H4 GPS shot tracking capability. I found it to be a great addition to my game, has given me insight on what I do well (and not so well) and allowed me to participate in this test. My game can best be characterized as the "old guy" game I used to hate when I was younger. Though of series of accidents, surgeries, replace body parts and other health factors, my range of motion is limited and I've lost a great deal of distance. My driver speed is in the low to mid 70's mph and driving distance now around 180 yards. I hit a lot of fairways (typically 75% on a course with narrow fairways), but I'm always short. A follow up fairway wood typically is also short and I rely on chipping and putting to score. Even with all the physical limitations I have, I still get out three times a week, play 52 weeks a year at the Southernmost golf course in the US and post over 150 rounds a year. You can see my golf bag make up from my signature. 2023 was the year of golf ball experimentation for me. Up until then, I played Srixon Q Star Tour golf balls. But last year, I wanted to experiment with direct to customer (DTC) brands. I started with the full range of OnCore balls (Avanti 55, Elixr and Vero X1) as they headquartered in back in Western New York. Then I tried the new Snell MTB Prime ball because the Dean Snell graduated two years after me from UMass Lowell's Plastics Engineering program. You gotta support a homie! I liked both balls. I read some great MGS reviews of the Maxfli Tour line of balls and jumped on two dozen when MGS ran a promotion late 2023. I put them into play and loved the little extra distance I got from them and the soft reliable feel around the greens. They are now my ball of choice. Since putting the Maxfli Tour S into play in November, 2023, I've broke 80 three times. Not bad for a 11.5 handicap index player. It will be interesting to see how Bridgestone's Mindset graphic and shot approach philosophy impacts my game. My current pre-shot routine is somewhat similar. I'm excited to see if adding the graphic and slightly tweaking my pre-shot routine will have on my Shot Scope results.
