Popular Post sirchunksalot
The River Course at Kingsmill was a blast! I got paired with @Kenny B and his wife Martha. I played better today than yesterday and shot 57/55 for a 112. The course was beautiful! I did have this shot on the 18th hole, I lost my drive right, topped a hybrid to 89 yards and stuck a wedge into about a foot and a half. Popular Post 3Putt4Double
20 hours ago, GolfSpy SAM said: Oh my god - what an INCREDIBLE start to this outing!! Royal New Kent did not disappoint - is truly a remarkable course, and one where you can quickly get yourself in trouble with a mis-placed shot (or a mis-timed shank...). But it's beauty is undeniable. Here's a quick photo recap of today's adventures - find myself lucky enough to be paired up with @GolfSpy BOS, @GolfSpy_APH and @TJ Hall - and happy to say that not ONLY did I lose amongst our foursome, but I ALSO managed to have the only red-circle of the group - unfortunately, an eagle (only my second ever!!) didn't change the outcome of the placement Here's a photo dump from stuff taken throughout the day. Tomorrow's post will include at least a little video, I promise! This guy's been awake for 40 hours, so it's time to get some shut-eye You had me at "pub", RNK. You had me at 'pub.' Close-up of the insignia of RNK The entranceway for the RNK Ghost Bags representing at Royal New Kent. Grab a chair, watch some tee shots. The hawks were out in full force on Day 1 The wind was ready to give us a proper showing around Royal New Kent. Full. Send. @TJ Hall and @GolfSpy_APH waiting (im)patiently on the first tee. @GolfSpy_BEN piping one on the first. God, LOOK at that tilt! @GolfSpy AFG is ready to prove something on the 1st tee. Calves at work. All hands on deck @GolfSpy_APH getting ready to send it on 1. @TJ Hall sending it on the first. One of my favorite things about the course was the long drives between greens and tees. Felt like an adventure. Par 5, layup required to short of the three-bunkers in the middle, then a good second to get it home in 3. Really tough, but beautiful hole. Stairway to the tee box. Pick your aim point carefully Long, tricky par 3 - the green runs from just behind those two bunkers, all the way back and to the left where the pin was. Really tough hole. From the 9th tee, looking back at the clubhouse. This is legit a beautiful course. A shot into the 9th green - captured by @GolfSpy BOS. When going for a green - try not to leave it short, or else you WILL be at risk of literally falling into a bunker. I wish I could say it led to a par, but a bogey it was (but it WAS a really good shot, to be fair, I just missed the putt) Carts in the sunshine, 16 tee (A rather dramatic cloud showed up at the 16th tee, so I thought it fitting to grab a snap of it) (this gorge runs the entire length of the fairway of 17, including in front of the green, so best make sure to carry it) (17 Green, tucked back from the fairway. Yes, thank you for asking, I DID eagle this hole (my second ever, and the only red-circle on the card today for any member of our group...it's a hard course ) Clubhouse, as seen from 18 tee Gratuitously pretty picture of a fence coming down 18 fairway as the sun is setting. Beautiful pics @GolfSpy SAM.. Hope to try to make it next year! Praying y'all have long drives and short putts! We'll done my friend, we'll done! On the first par 3 of the day he birdied the hole sinking an 18' putt. Me on the other hand 3 jacked the hole. Popular Post GolfSpy SAM
Alright y'all, Friday is in the books. The River course showed us all the reason why the LPGA had made this a tour stop for many years - beautiful, challenging, fair, and the greens were GREAT. Rolled true and (some would say) faster than Kingsmill Only a few pics today, as I focused mostly on video, but that will need to come post-trip, unfortunately, as there just isn't time to give the edit its proper due diligence after all the fun - and that's the best part about this trip so far: it's F-U-N. I didn't play WELL (90), but the laughter amongst @GolfSpy_CG2 and I in the cart, and the many, MANY high fives and sighs of frustration and more laughter with @GolfSpy BOS and @GolfSpy AFG was incredible - truly a round I'll never forget. No birdies for me today, let alone an eagle, but there were glimmers of the golfer I think I am (and sometimes can be), which was super encouraging - a couple of absolute bombs with the DF3 really helped the round not get away from me - my favorite being the 20+ footer, where I fist-pumped and said "Yes! Saved A G-D DOUBLE BOGEY!" - it was that kind of day See below some of the highlights, including a BIG bird at the top of a "tree" (cell phone tower made to look like a pine tree that the bird had built a nest in), and the slightly smaller bird who was attempting to pick a fight - seems like there's a metaphor in there somewhere, but I'll leave it to someone smarter/less tired to figure it out Also - please see last series of photos, where I discovered (to my legit horror, mind you) that that Got DAMN @Yellow Ball apparently knows no bounds. You will be found, and you will be dealt with accordingly. (trying to gauge the speed of these greens. Here's a hint: hit it less than you think.) ( @GolfSpy BOS debating whether to use the Link again while in his backstroke.) (After hitting five that close, apparently there's time to check your phone) ( @sirchunksalot dialing it in) ( (might be my favorite shot so far of the trip - there were multiple of these tunnels you had to drive through to get to certain holes, and this one led to the Par 3 5th hole, where Adam (THE Adam Beach, from MGS HQ) was set up on the Closest to the Hole challenge. Just a really beautiful set-up, and a pretty challenging hole.) ( @GolfSpy_APH launching it on the Par 3 13th. Based on the trajectory here and his follow through, 99% sure it was a hole in one. Cough.) (Big bird in nest, on the lookout for the a-hole who kept attacking the nest) (see above re: "a-hole" ) ( @GolfSpy AFG getting ready to hit into the group ahead, because they would NOT get off his lawn) (But seriously, LOOK AT THIS HOLE!!! Stunning. 16th at River.) (historic cannon next to the tee boxes (to the right, not pictured) on 17. Wishing this was the closest to the hole challenge, as it's easily the best par-3 I had all day - stuck to about 8 feet. Don't worry, though - I missed the dead straight birdie putt because it wasn't actually dead straight and died 3 inches to the right. D'oh.) ( @GolfSpy BOS wondering if he left the shower running.) (But for real - it's a really pretty par 3) (coming home. This was a really, REALLY cool experience - all the carts of everyone who'd started earlier than us were lined up by the green, waiting for us to finish and rooting us on. Legit something I'll never forget.) (Meh drive to the right, 7-wood nutted to the left greenside bunker. I ALMOST got it out the first time (to some "cheers" from the onlookers), and then literally hit the stick with my 2nd attempt and it settled 2 inches away for a bogey. It would have been an EPIC par and end to the round, but...c'est la vie.) And now, a story in horror. Let me set the scene: we've all had a great dinner, come back to the "hang room" for some drinks and laughs, and finally it's time for bed. I pull back my pillow to discover THIS nightmare: Yeah, that's right. Two of YellowBall's confederates (we're in VA, after all), laughing at my terror. (They got what was coming to them) (Only to discover that there was a GOD DAMNED THIRD ONE under the covers!) (I'll be burying this in the dead of night so no one is the wiser, but...I"m coming for you YellowBall. And I brought my ball-cutters...) Popular Post Cfhandyman
6 hours ago, GolfSpy SAM said: Alright y'all, Friday is in the books. And I brought my ball-cutters...) What a great post with equally Great pictures. I enjoyed this. Where will Yellowball strike next.
