What is the longest iron in your bag?

Recommended Posts

6 iron, but it is on probation.  If I could find hybrids that really work for me, I might drop the 7 and 6 iron.  In my case, even though I don't swing fast, the problem is ball striking more than speed.  Because of that, I tend to hit hybrids as poorly as I hit irons.

14 of the following:

Taylormade Qi10 Max

Callaway 2023 Big Bertha 3 wood set to 17 degrees

Cobra F9 Speedback 7/8 wood set at 23.5 degrees

Callaway Epic Max 11 wood

Titleist TSR1 hybrid 26 degrees

Ping Eye 2 BeCu 2-SW

Ping G430 irons 6-50 degree

Sub 70 286 wedges 52 and 56 degrees

Hogan sand wedge 56 degree bent to 53

Ping Glide 3.0 Eye2 58 degree

Ping Glide 3.0 60 degree

Evnroll ER1v

Ping Sigma 2 Anser

Cheap Top Flite mallet putter from Dick's

TaylorMade Mini Spider

Bridgestone XS

I carry a 4 iron and hit it ok. I'm a senior golfer and I bought a 4 hybrid but haven't put in the bag yet. Getting close to replacing my 4 iron but still get distance with my 4 iron but no height. My 4 iron goes farther than my 4 hybrid with roll and living in Arizona you get a lot of roll.

6i. Then 5H.

And have only started using the 6i semi-effectively the latter half of this season. Before this it was in the bag for show 😄 .. and the occasional rescue / punchout shot.

Wish I'd started golf earlier in life... One of my golfing goals is to hit irons nicely, and wouldn't it have been nice to get comfortable with them early on and with longer irons, too.

And PS: wow Freddie can still swing and got the ball!!!

4 iron, but it’s 25 deg (I have pretty weak lofts on my irons). I’m pretty comfortable with it, I generally hit it straight, so I trust it. If I miss-hit it, it might be low in the face, so it may be a little short, but straight. I really have trouble with hybrids. I tend to draw the ball anyways, and with hybrids I really have a tendency to turn them over even more.

It's a 4 iron that is used almost exclusively off the tee. This doesn't include a P790 driving iron for little punches to avoid overhanging trees and shrubs when things go wrong.

Hybrids can replace the 9 / 11 wood if I feel the need to change.

My 9 wood is a fixture in the bag.....I have an 11 wood too, but I hit it too high (and the 5 hybrid too low).  This game is one dilemma after another, LOL.....!😂

37.5 inches long by 29/30 degrees loft; number stamped into the club means nothing any more. In college 92-96, it was a PingEye2 1 iron bent to 13 degrees (balata balls back then) I need to find what's in the bag for Fred Couples, I can not find a Major OEM that offers a 6 hybrid, might be one on the horizon.

TaylorMade and Titlest offer 6 hybrids.   You indicate you want a Titleist so look at TSr1 and TSi1; it is offered in 29*

Not counting the 18-degree driving iron I occasionally throw in for fun, it had been a 5-iron. Got sick of hitting it fat 9 times out of ten, so recently added a 5-hybrid (24*) to the bag.  I've only used it for 1 round so far, but damn the forgiveness is nice to have, so I think it's there to stay, and the 6-iron will be the longest iron I carry.

I've always found irons the easiest to hit (easiest spoken very carefully) compared to everything else in the bag. Right now I carry a 5i, but have thought about bringing the 4i back out.

3i driving iron. Then 4i on down. I am like a few others who hit long irons fairly well. For now at least they are more consistent and accurate for me than fairway woods or hybrids.

You have some Callaways so I guess you like them. Oddly enough, so do I. They have 6, 7, 8 hybrids for many years. I have the 6 and 7 Big Bertha 19 hybrids. Love them. Check out the new Paradym line and you can see they still have 6,7,8 hybrids. You can also get them on the pre-owned site.

I tend to hit the ball high. The longest iron in my bag is sometimes a 3 iron. Other times I use a 3 hybrid instead depending on the course and other conditions. I find that the 3 iron is easier to hit straight, although it is slightly shorter in shot distance than the hybrid. Without the 14 club limit I would definitely have a 1 iron in my bag. I used to have one when I was younger, but the times I need it are so seldom compared to the greater versatility of fairway woods, that it isn't worth removing a different club and then carrying one. Back then I could hit the 1 iron about 240 off the tee and 210 or sometimes more off the fairway. I hit the ball a little shorter with all clubs now.

Callaway 816 Alpha DBD driver, 3 wood, 5 wood, Alpha 815 3 hybrid, RAZR X Forged cavity back irons 3-AW, 54-14 MD4 wedge, Maltby MS+ wide grind 60 degree lob wedge, 37 inch Rife Swithback Two putter. All clubs overlength - 47 inch driver, 45 inch 3wood, 44 inch 5 wood, 41 inch 3 hybrid, 39.5 inch 5 iron with other irons in line with that. All clubs graphite shafted and X-flex except flex of putter.

5 iron for now. Looking for a 26/27* hybrid that could replace the 5&6 iron. Have learned to love my Mavrik Pro 3&4 hybrids after hating hybrids in general because I could only hit them off the toe.
