How'd you play?

Recommended Posts

Three rounds in a row in the 70's and 79,80,73,78,79 my last five. Guess which round was played in windless conditions. Not today's! By the time I get to 18 the sand was blowing across the green from the bunkers and the flag stick was waving. I had to work for my double.

Best golf moment of the day was walking into the Pro shop and having the Pro ask, weren't you thinking of trying a G30? I just had someone trade his in and it's barely used lets go hit a few on the range to see how it fits and tweek settings if need be. He's letting me try it for the rest of the week.

Over the last three weeks, I've had a dramatic increase in my driver distance on "quality drives".  A two to two and a half club difference.  I am now in the neighborhood of the longest driver in our group on many drives and beyond the drives of a couple of single digit HCs who used to constantly outdrive me by significant amounts.  Factor #1 is improvement resulting from my lesson program.  But factor #2 is clearly the G30 I started playing about 2 months ago.  Versus the Rocketballz I was gaming before, much higher launch and much more consistency overall.  I think you will like it.

Nonchalant putts count the same as chalant putts.

In my Ogio Ozone XX Cart Stand Bag:

Ping G400 10.5 Deg Driver, stock Stiff shaft
TM Rocketballz 19 Deg 5 Wood, stock Matrix Osik Stiff shaft
TM Rocketballz Stage 2 21 Deg Tour 4 Hybrid, Rocketfuel 80h Stiff shaft

Callaway Apex CF 16 Irons, 4-P, Stiff Shafts

Scor 48 and 55 degree wedges.
Renegar 60 Deg Steel Shaft Lob Wedge

TM Ghost Spider Si 38" Counterbalanced Putter

forgive me father, for I have sinned. it has been a long long time since my last confession. since then, I have picked up this game called golf. I have lied (to myself), cheated (left work early to get in some golf) & stolen (found as many golf balls as I have  lost). I love it though, and I just can't seem to quit. Unfortunately, last weekend, I failed to quit yet again. I played terrible, but I had a good time anyways.

As penance, I think you should have me go play again this weekend!

Since I regripped my Powerbilt AFO irons yesterday, using Lamkin iLines, I decided to play them today. I shot a 47/39:86 today. I was gaming the Powerbilt AFO DFX driver and my AFO fairway woods.....took awhile to get the driver going right, kept leaking on me. And the irons were longer than my Cobras so I was Goin off the back f the greens. I kept my Bellum Winmore putter in play and that saved my a$& several times. Had many chances for birdie but could not get the job done.

It was fun gaming the other clubs today even though I did not score well.

Foz are you getting the same crazy winds that we are?  It is blowing so hard over here that it's like playing in the Open.  I shot 77 yesterday in brutal conditions for golf, perfect conditions for about anything else 85, sunny, cool 20 to 25 mile an hour wind - great beach day.

I spent some time at the beach and was able to get up and down 2/3 and had to put myself in the position to make par from a sandy waste area on 9, given that I had a forced 140 yard carry over a water hazard I was very happy with that shot.  Our bunkers which are normally perfect are starting to get very firm in spots because so much of the sand is blowing out of them and our greens are like cement.  Conditions were so tough that I shot away from the pin on 13 from 120 yards - I actually laid up to the front left of the green with gap wedge rather than running the risk of going for the pin with PW, not striking it perfectly and having it carom over the green into the hazard.

It's way too windy to tell about the G30 in regards to distance - overall I found myself a bit closer to the greens into the wind than the day before.  What I noticed though is that the thing goes the same distance almost no matter where I hit it on the club face - that's great news - I think that I will stick the original shaft back in the SLDR, pick up an adapter and try my Paderson in the G30 as well.

I was very straight with it.

Taylor Made Stealth 2 10.5 Diamana S plus 60  Aldila  R flex   - 42.25 inches

SMT 4 wood bassara R flex, four wood head, 3 wood shaft

Ping G410 7, 9 wood  Alta 65 R flex

Srixon ZX5 MK II  5-GW - UST recoil Dart 65 R flex

India 52,56 (60 pending)  UST recoil 75's R flex

Evon roll ER 5 32 inches

It's our offseason so auditioning candidates - looking for that right mix of low spin long, more spin around the greens - TBD

Shot 93 and 95 here in Tampa Monday and Tuesday. Hotter 'n blazes. Thermometer in car said 90*. Yesterday hit 9/14 fwys but only 2/18 gir. Blew only about 1 club, but I kept choosing the wrong one, plus I blew myself, every 2nd shot. Highlight was #10, par 5. Hit driver right carried water over 210, finally found ball at 240 or so. Punched it to fairway, had 197 left per GPS. Hit 4W, left across road OB. So I dropped at the same spot, hit 4W again, 196 to 3 ft. Made putt for bogie. What a game!

Last round in 2015, we had 18 guys for a points game this morning. I shot a 38/40:78. No I did not stutter, that's right, a 78. This was my second round at Pebble Creek playing the Senior Tees.....I rattled off 12 Pars, 5 Bogeys and one Double Bogey. I played with my Cobra Bio Cell Driver and my Powerbilt Fairway Woods and Irons. I am sure that I am hitting the Powerbilt irons at least a 1/2 club longer than the Cobra Bio Cells. I just got into the rhythm and scored. Four Par threes.....hit 2 in regulation, came up shot n the other two ending with 3 Pars and ne Bogey. The Double Bogey came n #17, Par 5....I overshot the green which cost me the double bogey. Overall, this was a great day. BTW, I finished in 2nd place at +7, losing to another 78 that was +9....Happy New Year!

79, bad double on 5, bad bogeys on 15, and 17. I am striking the ball well right now, except for my wedges, mishit about 5 short irons today, I managed to chip pretty well so that saved some shots, had about 3 other birdie putts come up short again. I am pleased with the 79, but a bit more work and it could be a bit better.

Tale of 2 9s today boys. The rust definitely showed. Couldnt putt to save my life. 39 front and 33 back. Missed 2 putts inside 4 feet today and 11 putts between 7-15 feet. Struck the ball amazingly well. Had some bad luck on the par 5 5th that cost me a double but thems the breaks. Prolly shoulda shot 65 today.

Played awful today. It was cold. I wasn't really feeling it. The course was wet.

Nah, I just couldn't seem to pull it together.

Didn't matter though. It was the last round with a friend that is moving  halfway across the country, so honestly, it wasn't bout the the golf today.

I must have been disslexic today, instead of a 78, I shot a 43/44:87. Just could not get it all in sync. I almost scored an eagle, 90 yard approach shot hit the pin and circumvented the hole, stopping an inch from the cup.....easy bird!

79, double on the first hole, and finished with 3 straight bogey's on 16,17,18. I had 7 birdie puts inside 20 feet, I made 2 and had 4 of them come up 6 inches short that were right in the middle of the cup, I'm stroking the ball on line but coming up a bit short

Started out tweeking my left knee on the first tee....I just could not put any Torque on it, took a Vicodin and double bogeyed first 2 holes, then started pars, with a chip in birdie on 10. Ended up with a 41/42:83

BTW, knee feels fine now, but it was really scaring me this morning. We had 50 golfers today and with Powerball over 900 million for tonight, we got up 44 players into a Powerball group for tickets tonight. I ended up in line for 44 Pball tickets.....only took 20 minutes. I am sure that the Pball will be over 1 Billion by 10 PM tonight.

Played yesterday.  Had been stoked for the round, 'cause I'd had a really, really, good video practice on Monday, followed by really good ball striking during a club fitting Wednesday.  My pro was impressed.  I felt that the swing had hit a breakthrough point after 6 months of the lesson program.  Swinging freely and getting a good club to club and a half more distance on the irons and 2+ on the Driver.  Well, back to earth a bit.  On course, it ain't quite so easy.

Didn't play badly, but very disappointed in the score.  Very pedestrian 46-44/90.  Especially after the start.  Boomed the driver, 5 yds past the 7HC in our group, who in the past has been 15-20 yds past me.  Crisp hybrid down the middle to 80 yds.  Hit my stock 80 yd half GW which I've been very consistent with, watching it head directly at the pin, thinking good birdie chance.  Except flew the green--guess I didn't account for the extra distance I've been getting.  Mediocre chip, bogey.  Second hole, par 3, well struck, 3 putt bogey.  Third hole, boomed the drive, aiming for right side of FW, ever so slight push into the sand trap that has traditionally been unreachable for me.  Slightly thinned a half wedge out of the trap, didn't hold and unfortunately the water is penally located a downhill slope and cart path behind the green.  Double bogey.  Next hole, the one bad drive of the day.  Creamed it, center of the club face, but unfortunately huge push into the houses OB.  Triple.  Par 3, half island hole, Pin front over the water.  I had been hitting left on this hole consistently so I aimed a bit right.  Hit a GW at the 115 yd pin, but a 5 yd push.  Again, unfortunately, being an island, circular green, on the line I hit it, it was probably 118 to carry.  Water and DB.  Wow.  Only one truly bad shot in first 5 holes and I've got no pars, two double and a triple.  Fortunately, parred next three holes and almost the ninth.  But a similar, score destroying 3 hole stretch on the back nine.   So, even though finished strong again, a yucky round given my expectations.

Short game showed the effects of a week and half layoff and no practice as well.

Nonchalant putts count the same as chalant putts.

I took the weekend off from golf because of severe chest congestion. This is the first weekend I took off for being sick since at least 2007.

Luckily I have had a good golf tournament to watch.

I took the weekend off from golf because of severe chest congestion. This is the first weekend I took off for being sick since at least 2007.

Luckily I have had a good golf tournament to watch.

Bummer on the sick part, but it is great to have golf back on isn't it?!

Best ever score on my current course today!  42/39 81 on the TPC Sawgrass Valley.  Started slow, 3 bogies, par, bogey, par, double (stupid bladed iron into water off a side hill lie).  But then 3 pars, birdie, par, double (slight pull draw that caught the sideslope and dribbled into water), and 3 more pars.  Driving well, struck irons average to well and generally putted good.  Best thing was during the stretch in the middle of the round, I knew I was putting together a good score, but I didn't let it get to me this time.  No blowup at the end!  I did play the second last hole too defensively (after two shots on par 5, was 50 yds from pin and I bumped and ran the shot rather than risking the pitch, left a long birdie putt which I turned into a 3 putt with a couple of poor strokes), but overall very pleased!

Nonchalant putts count the same as chalant putts.

Cold 44* for 20 of us this morning at The Babe. Shot a 47/42=89. The first 5 holes I could not focus on the ball. My eyes were watering and it was like I was looking through an aquarium to see the ball. That finally cleared up and I finished with an almost chip in birdie, in other words, a tap in par. But it was fun, and warmed up to 61*.

I played late in the day, very cool, 59 and breezy when we finished. Shot 76, did everything well except putt, my putting was average at best. Did hit 10 greens and had the putter in hand on two or three of the ones that I missed.

Taylor Made Stealth 2 10.5 Diamana S plus 60  Aldila  R flex   - 42.25 inches

SMT 4 wood bassara R flex, four wood head, 3 wood shaft

Ping G410 7, 9 wood  Alta 65 R flex

Srixon ZX5 MK II  5-GW - UST recoil Dart 65 R flex

India 52,56 (60 pending)  UST recoil 75's R flex

Evon roll ER 5 32 inches

It's our offseason so auditioning candidates - looking for that right mix of low spin long, more spin around the greens - TBD

Your "cold" 44° is a "warm" 44° to me lol
