How'd you play?

I played at my club yesterday as a single.  I watched the morning gangsome go off several groups in front of me.  The pro was playing with them and I have never seen him play before; I just joined last October and he hasn't been out.  While I was waiting for my tee time, I wandered off to the #2 green that is a short walk from the clubhouse to watch the pro's group play into the green.  Clearly, his game was not ready for spring; muffed chip and his putting looked like mine!  The other guys were pathetic.

Two other groups teed off behind the pro's group but I didn't watch.  I should have... I probably wouldn't have played at all.  They were so slooooooow.  When my tee time came up, I noticed a single teeing off #1.  The rest of the day was open so I just waited until he was on the green, then I teed off.  I got to #2 tee and the guy in front of me was on the #2 green; OK not bad.  I finished #2 and went to #3; he was sitting in the middle of the #3 fairway waiting for the group in front of him and they hadn't reached the green yet.  He waved me to hit and join him.  We chatted for what seemed like 10 minutes while the group in front finished putting then we finished the hole.  We went to the #4 tee and waited again, and another single finished #3 and joined us.  The three of us played together through #9.  We had a good time except for waiting on every shot.

There were two groups between the pro's group and us.  The pro was putting on par 5 #9 as we were waiting on #7 tee for the two groups in front of us.  We finally finished #9 and considered going on, but both groups were on the #10 tee so we all bagged it.  At least I got to meet a couple of nice guys. They both hit it far... one hit it straight.

We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

This time of year the club I belong to gets a bit boggy, but this last weekend it dried out a bit, but I should have stayed home. As much as I know warming up helps me shoot low, I rush to the first tee. This ball pretty much sums up the 92 I shot... 78 yards to the green, about a 3/4 Lob wedge- Felt I bladed it a bit? even though it went in the air and landed middle of the green

That's why I moved from the Willamette Valley many, many years ago; a bit boggy from Nov to April.  It's amazing that I am only 3 hours drive away from you and we only get 7 inches of rain a year!!

Our course put in foot golf this winter. All along the fairways they have signs for the foot golf tees, which are blocks of cement, about 6x12 inches, imbedded on the edge of the fairways, sticking out of the ground about an inch. Our course manager says foot golf is compatible with golf, and I guess he's desperate to make money.

Today I hit driver on #9 pretty good. I've actually driven it over 300 yds on this hole, if I catch the hard ground near the cart path, or the cart path (those count, too). My drive was going left near the path, I'm thinking, ok, pretty good, when I see the ball bounce high in the air. I think, great, this has got to be 300. I get up to the ball, which, surprise, is in the fairway. GPS distance : 154 yds. Eighty yards ahead, I can see the foot golf cement block it bounced off of, apparently backwards. I now have a mere 230 yds to the hole. I hit a solid 3W, to my surprise, pin high left of the green, make a great pitch over the bunker to 5 ft, make the putt for par. I guess I have no argument that foot golf is incompatible.

What happens when you hit one of those cement bricks?...or accidently roll the ball into the footgolf hole?  Do Over?

It's a free drop if anything from the footgolf interferes, but they've said nothing about any ricochets, so it's "play it as it lies" I guess. The footgolf holes are 18-inch aluminum pans buried in the ground with green and white checkered plastic flags. Rodney Dangerfield voice: "Really gives the joint class, ya know what I mean?"

Feb, 21 in Ohio. My brother and I played 18 holes. It was one of the worst rounds I've played in recent history...... and one of the best times I've had on a golf course.

I made some great shots. I made more really bad shots! Every aspect of my game is NOT GOOD right now...lol. I only had one par the whole round.. The rest was bogey and double bogey. I shot 95. It's been a while since I did that! Still.... I had a such a good time with my brother!

I'm sure my game will get back to high 70's - mid 80's form when I start playing regularly again, but this was just such a good day in February!

I'm a little jealous. Still under some snow here in PA. Yesterday would've been perfect weather.

It was the weekend.  Since my wife is not yet retired, she can only play on the weekends.  I made it out a few times this last week for some practice holes and a couple of nines, but we made tee times for this last Sat and Sun.  Sat was ...  Not Good!  It was 55* and wind blowing 10-15mph.  I shot 45/41 for 87.  My wife tied me on the back nine.  I could not drive the ball very well and no putts dropped.

Today was a different story.  It was colder, only 48* but no wind.  I shot 39/38 for 77.  Remember, my course is par 37/35 =72.  I had 3 birdies and nothing worse than a bogey.  A tale of two golf days.  I wish I could tell you what the difference was, but I have no idea.

I have a game on Monday with 3 guys I met on the course this winter.  We are all retired; two of them are about my index and the other is a retired Marine Colonel who is about a 5.  I wonder which game I will bring with me; my Sat game or my Sun game!

We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

Absolutely horrible this weekend, and the weatther was in the upper 70's!

I have been nursing a severe tightness in my left shoulder for 3 weeks now, and it has affected my swing.  Can't seem to chip either.....UGH!

Played my Monday game today with 3 guys from my club.  This weekend I had a horrible Sat and a great Sun.  Well, today I had a horrible front nine 46 and a nice back nine 38 for 84.  I was +7 after the first 3 holes!!  But shooting +5 over remaining 15 holes was decent.  I hit my 3rd shot on the par 5 ninth hole from 164 to 10 feet but missed the birdie.  I did make birdie on the par 4 14th hole when I hit a wedge to 2 feet.  I tied a 5 hcp on the back nine.  woo hoo!

Well, we found a course open a half hour south of us today. Went and played, 50° with 5-10mph wind. Played with my buddy that's scratch. Straight up match play for "drinks at the pub". I don't let him give me strokes. It might sound stupid but I feel like if I beat him with strokes then it's not a win in my book. I would rather lose consistently. I use it as motivation and when I get good enough to beat him it'll make it that much better. I was 2 up through 6. On the par 3 7th I hit it to 20 feet. He hit it further right than I've ever seen then hit a flop shot over some trees to 10 feet and made the putt for par. I 3-jacked for a bogey. Not how I envisioned the hole after our tee shots but it was a good learning experience. I thought I was going 3 up and he got it back to 1. After that he shot 1 under on the back and my run was over. I lost 3&2. Had my chances but a few 3 putts ended up costing me big. All said and done I shot 79 to his 75. Regardless, I was happy just to get out and play and hit the new driver. With a 79 as my starting point for this year, I'm excited for the spring.

Played in perhaps the most wind ever at Bayou, windier than when Kenny and Foz were here a couple of weeks ago but much warmer and so the wind was in a different direction. The front nine was brutal, shot 41 with double on 8. It was like having five par fives because all of the big par 4's were into the wind. The back was a different matter, shot 38 with double on 18, the cross wind got me, I left it in the mounds of hell on the right side and took 4 from there.

Still 79 today was very solid. I know that none of my playing partners broke 90 and they were up a set of tees from me.

Played twice this past weekend.

First round shot 88 including some relaly good shots. Felt like a day where I wasted a bunch of shots with some meh putting. On the other hand I finally sorted out my driver.

The next round shot around the same. The course was slammed to the point I had to give up after 12. Another round at or near 90. Looks like I finally busted out of my really bad golf trend and starting to put together some really decent rounds. Just need to score better.

2+ club wind today, which was ok because I wanted to try out my new, used 3 & 4irons I got on eBay to complete my MP-54 set. What sweet irons. They kept the ball low all day, just cheating that wind. Shot 46+46 for 92 with 3 birds, 3 pars, 5 doubles, 1 triple and and quad. Sounds bad, but I was striking it solid all day. My usual drive is 230. First hole into the wind: 187. Finally had wind at my back on #8 dogleg: 308, thru dogleg, thru rough, onto dirt maintenance track. Hit LW 80 to 6 ft: birdie. On #16, with wind, ball veers towards cartpath. I find the ball in front of the green: 339 yds per GPS. Pitch 40 yds, pin high: bird. Third bird was a 6i, 171 yds just over the stick on par 3. 7/14 fwys, 4 gir, 31 putts. 2 lost balls (stroke and distance penalties), 2x 3-putts, 7x 1-putts. 3 failed sand saves, 1 shank, 1 fluffed sandy lie. Made 7 on par 3 due to topped tee shot into hazard, re-teed 3rd shot, hit short, pitched over the back, chipped back and 3-putt. Did I mention it was blowing 2+ clubs worth?

Mark the calendar!!  Feb 25, 2016.  I played today in short sleeves!!  It was 60* sunny and no wind; just a gorgeous day.  I wish the same could be said for my game.  Shot 84 with 3 doubles after an opening birdie.  Short game forgot to show up.

Looks like the same weather tomorrow, but 20mph winds coming for the weekend.

Nice day today. High of 67. Almost had a first today, thanks to a poor drive I didn't manage to make 3 eagles in 1 round for the 1st time. Upon a second drive(that didn't count) I actually did make the 3rd eagle. Oh well. Maybe another day. Woulda been nice to have 3 eagles in a 5 hole stretch though. At the end of the day 73. 1 double, 2 eagles, 2 birdies, and 5 bogeys.

It was warmer today than yesterday; 66* but the wind blew 15-20 mph.  I thought I was still in Florida!  lol

My wife and I teed off at 11:38 and finished in exactly 4 hours.  I shot 80 and she shot 86, which tied her best round ever.  She had 2 birdies; almost an ace on #12.  My round could have been very good if not for a cold start.  I was +8 on the first nine and even par on the back nine.  I actually hit my driver pretty well into the wind, and today was my best putting round of the year.  I made several 10 footers, mostly for par but one birdie and one for bogey!  "The bogey save is none less satisfying."  :)

We have another tee time at 11:38 on Sunday.  Wind will be less but cooler tomorrow; still nice for February though.

We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

Played a quick 7 holes today to temp greens at my club to give the Titleist CBs I picked up a shot. Not a huge fan of them compared to my Hogans so they will be in the travel bag or left out west to use when I am there. Hit it OK for having one range session last week and not hitting balls before I played. New club layout is a blast in the wind, especially on the 11 holes out on Jamaica Bay.

After 2 bad days at the range, when I hit about 30, really, 30 shanks in a row, I was ready to quit golf again. Came home, swapped out the MP54s for the EZs. This morning, I think, it ain't so bad. Put the 54s back in. Mellow warmup, then a solid day of striking. Shot 43+45 for 88. Satisfied. Don't know how, but I had 26 putts with 11x 1-putts. Irons were solid, but a little short, mostly. I think I can build on today.

I read snapped the 54's :).

I should be on the range but came home from church totally exhausted. My wife told me she didn't sleep well last night so that's probably it, I don't generally sleep well when she doesn't.
