    How'd you play?

Really feel like my game is going from strength to strength. I was 4 over par on Sunday away from home when my match play game ended in an 6/4 victory for me, I shot a 4 over par 77 at home on Monday and I was 2 over par for 12 last night. I am very confident at the moment and feel like I can play any shot. also I keep hitting par 5s in two so that helps

Yeah, this is how I spent my evening. I mean they’re cute, but not that cute. Apparently I’m $300 invested here, aka 3 wood compensation. Let the FW search begin!

    How'd you play?

My mediocre play continues. My handicap index has risen in excess of 3 points recently (7.0-10.2)-- enough that a soft cap has been placed on my handicap suppressing upward movement by 50%. I feel like I'm striking the ball cleaner post swing changes, but still making enough errant shots that puts added pressure on my short game (which is sometimes sharp and sometimes not). Shot an 84 today. Greens continue to be very hard and difficult to hold. They'll be punching them next week, which will help after they heal.

  7. First of two TW Milled arrived today. 60 just started assembly and should arrive in 5-10 days. First impression is I am a fan. It passes the eye test, that zero offset is nice but I am more excited to try these grinds.

  8. Week out of my 1st lesson in years and shot a lovely 50/45. Ive worked hard this last week a few things and it showed even though as a 7.5 I shot 95. Virtually zero and chipping practice really showed and duffed a few, several 3 putts, and missed several short par putts along with3 penalties thanks to horrible iron play and 1 bad driver. The positive was I hit quite a few fairways with my driver which is huge since I never carry a driver as Im too steep to hit it. Driver only hurt me once today. I had wedges/short to GIR and blew it time and time again. Ive actually been hitting irons well in practice so not sure what was up. I think part of it was trusting my practice and my swing in progress. I went out with zero expectations and no thought of going back to old swing. Score had no importance but buddy kept it.

  11. Hey all! long time first time (as they say on our local sports radio station) going through this little thread! Got my plane mate in yesterday. Did my first protocol today. I have done a lot of work without plane mate over the past year and its helped but hoping that this puts me over the edge. Initial setup was easy, clip for me sits a little higher than I would have that but feels like good tension right here. My swing has always been extremely dependent on timing because I was/am very wristy with not the best rotation. Have been working on both so I think the transition into plane mate is going to be a lot easier than it would have been a year ago. I set up a little area at work and will probably toss a little net in so I can hit some balls here and there. Initial take away from day 1 is that I can feel as soon I start to break my wrists at the start of my back swing (you can see in the video I keep looking back to make sure the head of the club stays below) so I can really get that feeling down. Again this is key for me I think. I texted @B.Bostonright after and he made the comment of the hips being open to target. Never would have I expected that would be something I would do but here we are! Cant wait to keep on going and see what this thing can do to help me this year/moving forward.

I think many of us struggle with the same patterns, particularly those of us with a game that is "pretty good" but not where we want it. We have the ability to go low, but we also have the uncanny knack to hit those WTF shots.

  15. Managed a 96. Short game was not good, to be expected really. We've got some really tricky greens and some not great reads but pace control with the new putter was good. One birdie and an Eagle putt missed. Playing again tomorrow so see how that goes..

  17. Right, here is part two and the final decision. Last Friday I went along to The Golf Warehouse here in Christchurch to hit the Srixon irons. I was lucky enough to be able to work with Ritchie Bath, the head fitter. Ritchie is passionate about golf and loves to think outside the square. He had me hitting heavy shafts with game improvement heads, light shafts with players heads and so on. I tried Callaway Apex again with light, stiff graphite and they felt great but spin was down as was dispersion. I tried ZX7 with light weight steel and they were really nice but definitely firmer than the Wilson CBs. The clubs that surprised me were the ZX4 players distance irons. They felt great and flew high and straight. The decent angle was up but spin was down. Still I was starting to think I could game these when a nasty little flyer reared it's head. I was hitting wedge 131 yards over and over, when I made a swing that felt no different and it went 142 yards. I couldn't blame anything for it so it had to be the club. This is the sort of thing that I want to avoid, if I make a bad swing and end up short then its my fault but a sudden hot shot from the face is a score killer. I walked out of the store after an hour or so knowing exactly what I was going to do. I went and had another hit with the Wilsons and ordered them straight away. There is just something about those clubs that really clicks with me and they feel so damn good!! Oh and while I was back at Riccarton Park I had a hit with the Mizuno 921 SELs. They are pretty but scary with not much offset. They feel great out of the centre but not so good out of the hosel So I am getting Wilson Staff CB irons, 4-pw, KBS $taper stiff (100 gms), standard loft and lie with mid size grips. When I get them I will post lots of gratuitous club pictures

  19. While I dont collect high dollar putters, i do currently own 22 putters (down from 45...ebay is my friend). Why? Because I like putters. One is from my first tournament prize winnings in 1984ish, Ray Cook mallet. A bunch of Pings, an STX because its unusual, several old putters that I couldnt sell due to age and technology. And finally, because I can. They dont eat anything and take up very little space. So when my current gamer misbehaves, I bring out a replacement. Sent from my SM-G950U using MyGolfSpy mobile app

Sooo, long story that I’ll try to make short, but did you know “bunny photos” is now a thing around Easter? Get your kids in Easterish clothes, then a photographer puts 4-5 real rabbits around your kids, snaps away, and takes your money. That was my Saturday morning two Saturday’s ago. On the way home, my wife says “we should get them a bunny” because my 3 year old daughter in particular enjoyed it. I said “whatever you want babe” and didn’t think about it again. Ummm, she took that to the bank...came home today with 3 freakin’ rabbits, one for each of my kids!!! I said I didn’t think she was serious, to which she said “I know, but I knew you’d say yes so I just got them.” I really want to buy a SkyTrak tomorrow and see if I can employ the same “I knew you’d say yes” BS I’m getting hit with.

  24. Mentioned over in the what are you thinking about thread that I needed to outfit the top and bottom of my wife's bag: Probably could have saved some money browsing eBay but the prices were comparable at quick glance. And it's nice everything all will be coming from 2nd Swing in one package. Not bad considering the driver/fairway combo is only two generations old.

  25. I suspected this. Noticed you two ordered PlaneMate's at the same time too. Cute...what I'd expect from a Navy guy like@Lacassem, but you I would expect to be your own man! They're big, kind of stretches the size of hybrids but smaller than a FW. Might be worth a look.

Had a chance to play Olde Barnstable Fairgrounds on Cape Cod on Tuesday. Heard a bit about it on Twitter so decided to check it out. Wonderful course that is very walkable and has some fun holes. Starts out P5-P3-P5-P3 - love that! Started out in a funk but finished the last 8 in 1 over with 1 bird and 1 boge.... not bad for March golf! Check out the pics!

That is a Launch Monitor worthy effort right there!!! Somebody I know had two small daughters many years ago with pet rabbits. The kids were supposed to take care of them but never did and the parents got tired of the feeding, cage cleaning, etc. Being a family of hunters, an escape cover story was created and covertly they turned into a few dinners for the family. They say it tasted a lot like chicken with the right breading & seasoning. They were almost found out when the family dog dug up the remains and was tossing and rolling on one of the pelts in the backyard. The kids are in their 40's now & still don't know the story! I only bring this up so you plan ahead and keep the dog away from the burial ground.

  28. Okay, I guess I finally will pipe up. As someone that had to build an 8 foot tall rack over the summer to hold all the putters I own I guess some can say I am a collector. I have all different manufacturers, models and anything from OTR putters to tour stuff, to customs....name a type of putter and I probably own it or have at one time in my life. I would guess I could play golf every day for at least 8 months of the year and never use the same putter for more than one round before I had to use one a second time. I could go about double that if I wanted to use a different putter cover for each round I played. So the question is why? Well, I have a golf room in my basement with a putting green and that is my relaxation room and I enjoy relaxing down there and rolling putts with a bunch of different putters, my way to relieve some stress after a long day of work. I also enjoy the hunt for new putters or if I find something that fits my eye it will go home with me. I have a putter that Rocco Mediate used at the 2004 Master's (https://golfweek.usatoday.com/2004/10/12/2004-newsmakers-mediates-putter-spurs-11th-hour-ad/) and to me that is cool. I also have putters made for Gil Morgan and Chip Beck that I was able to acquire as well as stuff from smaller makers that I was fitted for and made for me. It is how I choose to spend my disposable income and well it is fun for me. I don't want anyone to understand it or really couldn't care less if you do or don't. It is something that I enjoy (along with trap shooting and fast cars) that I will continue to do; well at least until my wife makes me start going to a support group or something.

  32. My home club is operated by one guy. He is the head professional and GM. It's a stock/equity club so that may make a difference, I'm not sure. When he took over a little over 15 years ago, the club was drowning in debt from bad management and decision making previously. The membership base was declining and aging quickly. Within a decade, we were virtually debt free and now have 375 stock owning, dues paying members. The facilities are in considerably better condition. He hired an outstanding superintendent who has made a world of difference. They work exceptionally well together. I say all of that to say, the head pro/GM at my club plays over 300 rounds of golf every year! The membership has a steady rotation of guys managing the shop renting carts and selling sweaters. It's been my experience, the more needy the membership base, the less time the pro/GM will have to play golf. For everything he as done to bring our little club back to life, he deserves to play golf with his three sons every day.

  49. Played 9’holes after work yesterday. Went off the back which is more challenging for scoring. Lots of kid to long irons off the tee vs driver and ball placement is important. Probably one of the better rounds of the year. Iron shots were cutting threw the 30mph wind putting was greatly improved and the 2/3 shots out of the bunker were spot on. Probably the best sand shot of my life from 185 with a 5 iron 10 ft from the pin. The driver was iffy, hard to tell if it was me or the wind. Felt like I struck a few good but the results weren’t there. Plus flight patterns were wild leading me to think the wind was having them go everywhere. Feel much better about my game going forward. Played with 2 new members without any nerves or jitters which usually had caused the shanks to come out
