    How'd you play?

... Intriguing round today and it really brought home how important focus, real focus is when trying to score. One of those days where everything was working well but nothing was working great. Could not get close enough for makable birdie putts with a lot of 15 to 20 footers that just didn't fall. 16 straight pars and thought about an 18 par day but ruined it when I holed a 15 footer for birdie on 17. Really tough but fair 426yd finishing hole that is all uphill from the tee but then all downhill to the green and I had to make a 7 footer to save par on 18 and really grinding out a 4. ... The course was not crowded at all and we finished in just over 3 hours. So I had the "brilliant" idea to keep playing until I had a bogie. (My back thinks brilliant should be replaced with stupid) This is when the focus really hit me because it is easy to bogie when you don't give every shot your full attention. Trying to play 27 holes without a bogie ain't easy. After a birdie on 19 and a routine par on 20 I hit a good drive on 21 a 430yd par 4 leaving me an in-between yardage so I gripped down 1" on my 7 iron and losing focus for just a miliasecond decelerated knowing I had too much club and pushed my approach shot into some hard pan right of the green AND semi-shortsided. The next 2 shots got my full attention and after a nice running chip bouncing twice in the rough I holed an 8 footer to save par. This one hole made me realize how often I don't give shots my full attention. I mean yea, I give all shots my attention but not my FULL attention when playing socially. ... After 3 more pars and really grinding out 2 of them I finally bogied a 176 yd par 3, #25 for the day. Pulled my 6 iron and hit the side of an elevated green leaving a brutal pitch that I had to kill in the grass and judge the speed for 10 feet of break. Normally I just take in the shot and give it my best, but really grinding I walked up and looked exactly where I wanted it to land and checked for any irregularities in the grass and tried to analyze how much it would break after landing just short of the green then picking up speed. Downhill and the massive break left me an 8 footer that I missed on the low side. I birdied 26 and had a routine par on 27. 3 birdies and one bogie in 27 holes. I was completely exhausted both mentally and physically.

Very nice!! One of the guys that works at my course and I play golf with occasionally sold his '69 Dodge Charger R/T last week to the owner of the Dodge dealership in town. He went in to look for a new car for his wife and the owner wouldn't let him leave until he accepted his offer. I think it was $38K. totally stock, unrestored. The dealer also said that he could buy any car for his wife at his cost.

    How'd you play?

I played Sunday - just posting about it because of the app going down. Saw an email about the 6 distance killers in a swing. It must have been the video montage of my first 7 holes. Then I managed to scrape a par on 8, hit a nice drive on 9, beautiful 8 iron to tap in distance for a 43 that felt like 60. Drove it great the rest of the way, 2 classic stringy Bermuda growing into me around the green led to chunked chips but a beautiful trap shot on 11 and birdie on 17 brought a 37 on the back. I tied the Assistant pro we were playing on the back - we may have been on different tees though. He was very helpful while I was struggling - told me I was one good swing away - guess he was right.

Kind of a sloppy 41 weather gorgeous 65 @ 8:00 Tee Time. TSi2 driver wasn’t cooperating so switched to G410+ and was killin it. G710 irons still hanging in there. I want to buy something new but nothing needs replacement, a feeling I’m unfamiliar with

    How'd you play?

2nd week of the league tonight. I got 4-1/2 out of 9 points which was OK since I was giving 7 shots. Shot a -2, 34... my best score in a long while. 2 bogey's, 4 birds and 3 pars. I was paying close attention to the yardage on the wedge shots tonight with the Snell MTB Black. I wasn't surprised by any of them coming up short like I was a couple times last week so I am attributing those to the wind knocking them down a bit.

    How'd you play?

I played 36 holes in the last 2 days. After work 9 on Monday that was about the most stress free 39 (+4) I've ever shot. Driver was behaving well and irons were perhaps the best ever. Arccos says I lost 0.0 strokes to a scratch golfer with my approach game. Short game was a bit rough, but I'll take it. Tuesday morning I walked 18 with @DiscipleofPenick on the course where our league plays (but we went to back tees instead of middle). Front 9 started great - par, par, birdie, bogey (always an acceptable score for me on that hole). Then the wheels started falling off. Lost the driver swing in the form of a bad two-way miss. Finally abandoned the driver for all but one hole the rest of the way. Irons started sharp, but eventually failed me, too. Ended up 42, 49 (+20). Tuesday evening league started like a continuation of the morning round - double, double, bogey, double. Managed to straighten things out to be +3 over the last 5 holes for a 46 (+10), but it was a grind with as tired as I was near the end. My fitbit logged 23,000+ steps yesterday and my back was starting to tighten in the morning round, so I suspect that was at least partially responsible for my AWOL swing. I could feel at times it was a struggle to finish the swing. Conditions were also tougher than normal. Of the 16 guys in our league, only 1 managed to beat his handicap. As a group, we averaged nearly 7(!!!!) strokes over HC. Since I was only 3 over, I actually feel pretty good about the night.

... There is a pretty big distinction between playing social golf and playing serious golf. Most of the time I am happy to have fun interacting with my partners, enjoy the wildlife, appreciate the walking and play some pretty good golf. Yesterday was not fun, just a non stop grind the last 18 holes. I very rarely have a tournament focus when playing casually because it takes sooooooo much effort mentally. Kinda like what the Pros go through playing a Major, just a 100% focus and they all talk about how exhausting it is playing 4 days in a major and I really respect that kind of dedication and focus.

  12. Hey Guys, As I mentioned in the email sent to all members, the App had lost support over a year ago and it has been limping along since then. What forced the change was the creation of the new Testing platform and it was extremely cost-prohibitive to implement a solution for the app - basically, all app users would not be able to access one of the main portions of the forum. This, combined with continued future enhancements and development projects for the site, lead us to delist it from the app store to stop new downloads. Unfortunately, an unintended (and unknown at the time) side effect of taking it off the store is that is also loses core functionality to do it's basic purpose. I lament the fact that delisting caused all app users to lose core functionality. We wanted to have a staged approach to removing the app and certainly informing all users ahead of the apps deletion - that is my mistake and I apologize to all you guys. Regarding a new app for the forum, it's not out of the question. We do have some other enhancements and development projects we would like to tackle first. Then we can look at building a new app that will be able to access all the new functions and make sure we have a seemless experience. Appreciate you guys understanding and apologize again for the screw up on our end.

I have two golf umbrellas that are 20 years old; BOGO free. I've used one of them maybe 5-6 times for rain and that was when I traveled to the Seattle area. I rarely play here in the rain, mostly because when it rains, the wind blows. A golf umbrella here is a PITA!! I did use it one summer for shade when walking our course, but in the mornings after the sprinklers have run all night, the umbrella traps the moisture under it and it feels like walking in a sauna!!

  18. I'll get this started with some background info on who I am and how I play! Introduction to my game: Let’s start with my game and who I am as a golfer, and let’s take it all the way back. I started really playing golf at the age of ten. I was a serious hockey player my entire life and golf was the getaway for me. I ended up playing for my prep school golf team after the hockey seasons were over and it really sparked my love for competitive golf. College ended up being a focus on hockey and school and golf fell off a bit, but my twenties and early thirties have been a golf obsession. I currently play to a 4.4 handicap under the CDGA as I live in downtown Chicago. A typical round for me is anywhere from 75 to 80 and I’m someone that makes a lot of pars with a couple bogeys mixed in. I’m the kind of guy that will play in any weather so at the moment I’m playing/practicing during temps in the 40’s. Distances are down during this time of the season but I tend to play pretty consistent golf. My strengths are mid irons and putting and my weaknesses are the driver and long irons. I tend to let some hockey body movements into the swing and it can be an overly quick swing with my shoulders spinning open, which makes my big miss with the long clubs a spinny right ball that doesn’t stop going right. Here’s a link to where I am right now with my swing: First video is a driver length training aid, second is an iron swing. My big focus is keeping my back to the target and my left shoulder restrained from firing too quickly. I'll post some links to my driver swing once I get this shaft set up and ready to test. Current Bag Setup: My current driver setup is a Srixon Z565 head on an old school Aldila NV green 65X shaft and it all plays 44” (I was not fit). I never liked the full 460cc driver heads as a compact look is key for me but I get along decently well with this one. I like to see a deep driver head that doesn’t look huge back to front and I want it to sit neutral. I tend to prefer a shaft feel that I’m used to which is why I struggle to get away from the old school shafts. I’ve even tested steel driver and fairway shafts recently but they were slowing me down a bit too much. My driver swing speed is in the 110-113mph range with a fairly quick transition. After speaking with the Nippon rep, it made sense for me to test the Regio Formula MB+ in 65X. My goal with a driver isn’t necessarily massive distance, it’s more that I feel it’s stable, reliable, and something I can put on my intended line, which tend to be aggressive lines. My goal is always to have a shot at reaching a par 5 in two and I subscribe to the data that’s come out showing that being as close to the green as possible leads to lower scores. I’m not one to play the smart shot off the tee or to aim for the middle of greens even though both would probably help my handicap! What I’m hoping to find from this Nippon driver shaft is a comfortable feel more in line with an iron shaft and something that feels stable and not loose. I want to see a tight fade ideally and not something spinny that I can’t control. I know a lot of that is putting a good swing on it, so I’ll be looking to see what happens when I do have my driver swing in check. In the past I’ve gamed Nippon NS Pro and Modus shafts and they are consistently the best feeling. I’m currently gaming irons with DGS300 shafts as those are just comfortable but I very much want to be back with Modus shafts and I'm building a set of Mizuno MP69 with Modus 125x right now (softstepped 1x). I hope to feel that same smooth but reliable kick in this driver shaft as I have with the Nippon iron shafts. Testing Setup: My setup for the test will be the Regio Formula MB+ 65X shaft with a standard Lamkin Crossline grip. I’ve chosen to pair this with a Mizuno ST200 driver head at 10.5*. The club will play 44” and at D4. I'll also be testing the Mizuno MP69 with Modus 125x shafts alongside my Hogan Ft Worths with DG S300 to see what I like in the irons and how the transition feels from driver to the rest of the set.

  19. I had my first night in a new league yesterday. (My old league did not survive our COVID hiatus.) I don't know anyone in this new group, but I took a chance on a convenient course location and good day and time. So far everyone I've met has been great. At 61 I'm the 4th youngest guy there! This group is very casual (appropriate for some of these older guys), and it's preferred lies always, and anything "inside the leather" is automatically given. There's a weekly $1 skins game, though they run it by pulling a ball out of a bag to pick the hole. If someone got a skin on that hole only they get the cash, if not it carries over. They also have closest to the pin prizes on all of the par 3's. I started off terrible, triple and a double, but chipped in for a par on 11 (played the back nine) to turn things around. Made some pars, but then another triple on 16 (one bad shot and four good ones). 17 is a funky hole that noone likes. It's par 5 hard left dogleg. If you can carry some unmown mounds and hit 210-230 with a draw you can have a mid or even short iron second. I hit a great 5 wood and put a 7 iron on for a two putt birdie. 18 is a long walk, and our opponents (riding) went ahead and hit their shots before we got there. It's a par 3, and we could see the marker was still in the fringe (we were the last group), so nobody had hit the green before us. One of my opponents was on, and happy because he hadn't had a greenie in a while. I the proceeded to hit a toed 8 iron that the crosswind blew perfectly, and ended up just outside "the leather" to take away his greenie, and then made the putt for birdie. He marked my name on the marker as "FNG". I now end up with skins on 17 and 18, and as the new guy in the league they have me pull the ball to pick the skins hole. You know what's coming: I pulled 17. There was $187 carryover from last season, so my $1 earned me $207, and I took a lot of good natured grief, though I promised to buy the first round next week. Now to everybody I'm FNG, which stands for F'in New Guy.

From there just tap on it and its very similar to the app in many ways. Personally I found the mobile version easier to use then the app and offered some more features when it came to posting and so on. What phone do you use and we can potentially give you a step by step.

  28. Introduction to my game: Hey guys I’m Drew! I started playing golf about 2 years ago seriously. I messed around on the course over the summer in high school but never anything too serious My love at that time was the baseball diamond. Fast forward to 2 years ago, 28 years old and a recent grad and wanted to take up a hobby to bond with my father in law. I always assumed since I was decent at baseball and good with my hands that I could figure it out. I became hooked on the game, with a background in physics and a doctorate in biomechanics it didn’t take much. I’ve been able to piece things together with my athletic abilities and overall understanding of body mechanics to put what I believe is a game where I can play with just about anyone. Last year my goal was to break 100, this year I am consistently breaking 90 . The course I play on has a slope of 141 at 6700 yards, currently my handicap is ~13. The course I play is quite challenging in Cleveland, OH, https://www.stonewatergolf.com/course/. It’s semi-private, but the best part is it’s 5 minutes away from my house so I’m always there. A nice range, chipping and putting practice area. Plus the best part is they just got a Trackman, which I plan to use for objective measuring. My strength this year has been my driver, since changing to a heavier shaft Tensei White Raw 65s my dispersion has significantly improved. Last year I fought a 30 yard slice, @discipleofpennick can vouch for that one. Since practice and putting a lot of focus into my driver I play a slight fade if not a straight shot. It’s all about my tempo, I have a very slow loading phase, with a moderate transition. If I get quick I tend to stand up causing a high trajectory spinning shot. It doesn’t occur much but the big left miss is always lurking if I come across my body, but that is directly related to me setup being left of my target line. My style is that of a swinger. My swing speed is about 105mph and I average 250-260 carry distance. My irons have dipped a but over the last couple weeks but are usually a strong point. My short game is coming along but typically in the past along with my driver was holding my game back. This year I also have a new set of irons, the first clubs I was ever fit for. Mizuno Jpx Hot metals with nippon modus tour 120s. I came close to getting the pros, but ultimately wish right now I would have gotten a mixed set of the pros with the regular hot metals as my game is improving relatively quickly. During the fitting process I learned I need my irons 2 deg upright, I always played off the rack clubs. Having my clubs fit for me have made a huge difference. I no longer have the toe chunks that are unexplainable I’ll get a few videos posted on my swing this weekend!! Current Bag Setup: My current driver is the TS3 9.5 with Tensei Raw AV white 65s playing at 45.5 inches. I usually choke down playing it to about 44.5 inches. I’m a Titleist guy when it comes down to the woods section. I respect their quality control process too much and really enjoy the classic look of the driver heads. In the future I will be upgrading to either the TSi3 or TSi2. I was previously playing the Hzrdus Smoke Black shaft which felt like a pole to me. I gave the Graphite Tour AD XC a try, it felt like a toothpick, the kick was way to pronounced for me. I decided to give the Raw White 65s a try, it’s been great low launch/low spin and heavy enough to help me with my tempo. As you can tell I like to tinker, but better yet I love the feel of my iron shafts. After speaking with the Nippon shaft Rep we decided that the Regio B+ would be the best shaft for me to try, it matched my style as a swinger and was the closest in profile to the Modus 120s. Taking a look it has a stout tip at 2.9 for the torque, which should give me a tighter dispersion, and be relatively low launch with the kick point by the grip. The one concern I do have is the weight. When looking at the shaft weight for the stiff shaft options it is 55g or 66.5g which in my opinion sits at the far end of the lighter and heavier spectrums. While 66.5g should work for me, I think a lighter shaft in the lower 60s would fit the modus 120s profile better from a numbers standpoint. It’s unfortunate that if you go with the lower weighted shaft you lose the torque numbers 4.3 vs 2.9 I’m really hoping this shaft allows me to build consistency between my irons and driver as the profiles will be similar. I hope to see tighter dispersion that my Tensei Raw white as I would label this more of an exotic/premium shaft. Hopefully this will allow for more distance than 260 carry with a 14 deg launch angle, but I’m not sure how much more distance I can squeeze out of my swing. Testing Setup: I will be testing the Regio Formula B+ 65S shaft with Titleist TS3 9.5deg. The driver is going to play at 45”. My grip will be either the Golf Pride Grey MCC+4 or Tour Velvet 360

  29. Continuing working on my short game with form and direction control with wedges this afternoon. Went to one if the local munis to use the chipping green which is almost always empty. Driving range was packed, putting green had several people on it, and there were several groups waiting to tee off on one and ten. Chipping green was empty though so I was able to get a solid hour in. Definitely saw solid improvements with direction control and decent progress with distance control on short shots so I wrote up that session as successful.

  30. Ok so almost got a whole round in but ran out of daylight. I did manage 15 holes in 2 hours by leaving the speed setting to 9 and jogging the whole time. Managed to scare off a twosome of old ladies in front of me and caught up with a 3 some in front of them. Got a good video of the DHC working well on a pretty steep hill. So I thought I could do a burnout and launch the cart...sorry folks it wont work...without a wheelie bar...that the M7 has... @Motocaddy can we make this mod to my M5 for you know...testing purposes...stability and all at high speeds though it would help on going up steep hills as well at low speeds. You can also see the clutch in effect with just one wheel on the ground the other spins, must be some kind of differential or a clutch to protect the motor? sorry for the sideways orientation but I can't figure out how to get it the right way. Also apologize for the giggling but I couldn't help it lol. After I picked up the cart, I jogged over to my ball on the next fairway @TBT I think you were asking about how it handles in the rough lol Video heading back to the clubhouse after the sun went down to show how bright the screen can be. hard to tell in the video but I haven't charged the battery in 2 weeks and this was after 51 holes of golf. Still showed a yellow status. I then kept the cart plugged in and hit a bucket on the range for the next hour before heading home and still had enough battery to drive the motor and get the cart to my truck in the parking lot. definitely would have made it through the last 3 holes if I had enough light! Battery life is great on the M5. This is with Bluetooth on and connected to my phone.

Stinky today. While I hit the ball well, putting was an issue. Greens were punched and sanded last week and they're horrible right now. I couldn't get the speed or breaks down, as each seemed totally different from the last. Posted an 86, mainly due to putting.

I had to order a couple replacement irons today.... My builder, who I’ve worked with since the early 90’s, had an associate take the heads off my shafts for my re-shaft. Well, the person used too much heat and “wrinkled” the backs of three iron heads. They’re paying for them to be replaced, but what a costly mistake! Ugh.

  36. First off let me start this story by saying I'm an idiot. Now that that's off my chest let's begin. Back in 2018 I was part of the original MGS SuperSpeed review. At the completion of the protocols I saw my baseline speed jump from about 104mph to a peak of 111mph. This was measured on the slightly juiced SwingSpeed Radar that was usually 3-5mph faster that better tracking devices. I admittedly slacked off with the program shortly after posting my final review but picked it back up each winter once the snow started falling here in Wisconsin. This particular winter I really focused on a Fit for Golf workout program along with the SS sticks. Shout out to Mike Carroll at Fit for Golf for putting together a great program. After working all winter I decided to test my swing in late March to see if new gains were made. I don't have any type of fancy setup but I do have a Skytrak in my garage with a portable heater and previously mentioned SwingSpeed radar. After getting warmed up I let loose to see exactly how fast I could go. I was picturing something like this happening on the course this summer: I started off in the same 108-110mph range that I hit with my 2018 peak. Figuring that I had nothing to lose hitting into a net I went all out. Who cares if it's 50 yards offline if I'm bombing them! Slowly my numbers started to creep up. First 112, then 114 for a few swings. One hellacious swing actually hit 116mph on the Skytrak (120 on the SwingSpeed radar). I was admittedly starting to get tired by this point but wanted to keep going to see if I could top 116mph. I should have known better. Around swing # 50 this happened: I'm extremely glad no one else was home because there was a string of swear words that was definitely not fit for children much less adults. I made decent contact with the ball but on my ridiculous follow through I hit the ceiling rafter with the club head. I should have immediately ordered this shirt: After swallowing my pride I sent a picture of the club to the head pro and my local public course. After he stopped laughing at me (jerk) he said he would contact Cobra and see what he could do. Knowing that it was 100% my fault I expected Cobra to get a good laugh at the situation and then I end up ordering a new club from them at full price. One week goes by with no word. Two weeks go by with no word. And today I receive this email: Cobra is awesome. I pull an all time idiot mistake by breaking my F9 driver in the garage and Cobra replaces the head with a brand new RAD Speed for free. They even sent the Peacoat and Red version that I preferred. I was already a Cobra fan for life after competing in the Cobra Connect Challenge but this puts them above and beyond anything. Thank you Cobra. TL;DR: Cobra is an amazing company, I'm an idiot, my local head pro is great, and MGS is the best forum on the planet. If you are in the market for a new club do yourself a favor and test out a Cobra. I'm not guaranteeing it will be the best fit for you, but you can be sure you'll get absolute top notch service from them if anything should ever go wrong.

I bought a pair of Footjoy Stratos shoes back in 2020, and after just three rounds in the simulator, and 2 rounds on-course, the area in front of the right toe, midsole and outsole, was already worn down, and separating. I sent them back to Footjoy to see about a replacement under the warranty. I was happy to see a box on my front porch from Footjoy today! Brand new pair!!! No more using these on turf!!!! The soft midsole wears out easily!

  38. I like squares too. Usually so much I get multiple squares per hole on my scorecard!

  40. The app has been breaking bit by bit over the last year, because it was built for an older version of Forum software. As of this last week, it has failed entirely. While there may be a replacement at some point, right now the app is no longer functional or supported.

    Sub 70 Golf

At one point last season, I only had 12 clubs in my bag... I jumped from 6 iron to hybrid... I was in the middle of a bag rebuild, and wasn't sure what I wanted to do. I picked up the 699u 4 iron, and loved it... it was the first utility iron I had ever gotten along with. Jason was helpful, service was great price was amazing... then I realized I should actually carry a 5 iron... Same experience, 639 CB 5 iron, Jason was super helpful on shaft selection, and offered me the S400, which hadn't come up in a fitting when I was between the S300 and X100... Great club, great price, great service. I wanted wedges built to my specs, so I went Sub70... 54 286 and 58 JB Low Bounce... Both are great clubs. Finally, when they offered a non adjustable hybrid, I bought it the day of release... 4 separate transactions, all clubs ordered and built custom. 0 problems, excellent service. I could easily bag a set of Sub70s (outside the putter and maybe the driver) and highly recommend reaching out to them with questions... Great company.

    2021 Fantasy Golf

Update on people sending me trades for Corey Connors: I will counter proposal the most ridiculous trade of all time if you send me a trade for Connors that doesnt include a top 15 fantasy player.
