Kenny:

Sorry to hear of your experience.   Had you gone to a hospital ambulatory surgical department as opposed to a free standing surgical center, you most likely would have had the procedure performed.   What you experienced is called defensive medicine.   A hospital would have had a cardiologist or internist available, while many freestanding centers do not, apparently your's did not.   I must assume that the anesthesiologist intended to use more than just a local, causing the need for testing.  Being in the hospital industry, I must say that hospital's practice defensive medicine.  I will freely admit that many tests and procedures might be performed only because a lawyer, at some point, may claim they should have been done.   Whether its a freestanding or hospital based, every patient that comes through the door must be viewed as a potential law suit.

Hang in there my friend, I genuinely hope that things work out well for you.   And as others have said, don't rush things, do what is required to return to 100%.

Thanks guys, but the rant continues...

Arrived at the surgery center (not hospital) at 12:30pm. Got the IV in my left hand, then waited in the prep room until 2pm. Anesthesiologist comes in and listens to my heart; says he hears "an irregular heartbeat". They hook up an EKG; took 15 minutes because I think they had to blow the dust off it and untangle the cords. He says "See there it is." No surgery. They took out the IV and sent me to the hospital ER; because I walked in and had no heart issue symptoms, the let me walk out instead of calling an ambulance.

We drove to the ER. Got in the room; a trainee tried to put an IV in my right hand and blew a vein; after she covered it and cleaned the blood off the floor, the nurse put the IV in my right wrist. They hooked up an EKG; the ER doctor took a look at it along with the copy of the EKG from the surgery center AND the EKG from the hospital that I had done last week that was OK. They are all the same. The ER doctor said the anesthesiologist should stick to knocking people out and not read EKG charts. There is nothing wrong. They took blood and those tests were negative. Left the hospital last night; missed MNF, and now I have to see if the surgery can be rescheduled.

I hate being old. The only good news is that the weather is really nice, and I can play golf today!

Sorry to hear this!

Yes, it is a stand alone surgery center.  Minor procedures are performed there, and that's where my doctor does all of his procedures.  The only reason they did an EKG in the first place was because of my age.  I am sure if the procedure was done in a hospital, they would have called a heart specialist to review the EKG and then performed the procedure when it was OK'ed.  The first date available for rescheduling surgery is Nov 13.  That's cutting it a little close for recovery to play golf in Palm Springs mid-January, but it's better than waiting until next October!

It's stupid, we've got Christmas stuff up at Lowes, which started coming in right after the Halloween stuff. We started getting snow throwers in a month or so ago too.

Yesterday marked the fourth time in three weeks my daughters bus left her at school.  Now, i'm not one of those parents blaming my child's irresponsibility on the school system.  If my child were the only one being left, I would easily find fault with her and immediately begin remediation with my child.

Nope, the bus driver has forgotten to pick up ANY child from the middle school 4 times in 3 weeks.  I feel my presence is necessary at the next school board meeting.  My guess is, they wouldn't forget the football team!

This is completely unacceptable!

When I was in high school, we had a bus driver fall asleep at the wheel and crash into the woods while trying to stop to pick me up. Yeah we never saw him again.

Why wait for the next school board meeting?

We have already taken the issue up with the transportation coordinator.  She acted as if our daughter was being irresponsible in not being where she needed to be at the time she needed to be there.  That didn't sit well given all 17 middle school kids who rode this particular bus were left stranded.  In my mind, the larger issue is school leadership left without making sure every student had left the school.  In no way, shape, or form should the principal and assistant principal have left the property without checking.  Especially given 17 kids were standing outside waiting for a nonexistent bus.

My wife and I just met with the school superintendent about an hour ago.  He assured us the matter was being dealt with and would be resolved.  We shall see!

While I'm sure getting the run-around is frustrating, I would think it's better safe than sorry.

Good luck with the surgery and recovery.

My rant: I made a trip to Cincinnati last weekend to look at a car. Internet pictures were not representative at all. Basically told the salesman he was going to have to give me a great deal to get me in the car. They didn't even counter my offer and we're expecting top dollar for an average car. I drove 7 hours Saturday to spend about 30 minutes at the dealership. Oh well, got to spend the day with a friend I don't get to see that often, so that was the upside.

I LOVE WHEN THE INTERNET DECIDES TO SHUT DOWN ON THE WEEKEND.

Anyone know anything about phone jacks and lines? I was troubleshooting my internet and decided to check the cables, more specifically, the DSL cable that runs from the modem to the jack. I unplugged the side to the jack and there was this weird goo substance in there. It almost felt like dried rubber cement. I've never seen this before on any other jack. I suspected it may be the culprit to my problem. Anyone know what the heck it is?

Don't know what that goo is, but if it's getting in the way of the pins making contact, it could be the problem

Yeah I've heard it's there to keep moisture out and to prevent corrosion. It makes sense to be on the inside with the wires, but not in the jack where the pins are. Guess I'll try and clean it out after work to see if it fixes it.

Rick,

Dielectric grease is put on connectors to prevent corrosion. In your car you'd probably see it on battery terminals. Generally white but I've seen it in red as well. When I had my new golf cart batteries installed they put it on all of the terminals. Very common use is for electrical systems on boats.

FYI I've also seen it used in some instances in signal wire (as in coax or telephone wire) but not very often.

So a little over a year ago I got shingles, and they were located on the left side of my face, around my left eye and up on the left side of my head. It has really messed with the nerves in that area, example. I will scratch my the left side of my forehead, but it feels like I am scratching just under my eyebrow, it feels really weird. Anyway, I noticed the last few weeks that when I wear my contacts for golfing my left eye seems to be much more blurred than my right eye. I was at the eye doctor not too long ago and he didn't see anything and my prescription didn't change, but man it sucks, I may need to go back and have him check my eyes again, but something is just a bit off, I am wondering if this blurry vision is causing some of the issues I am having with short putts.

Do you possibly have astigmatism? I have it in my right eye and my contact in my right eye was blurry. The imbalance between my left eye seeing perfect, and my right eye being blurry, was giving me motion sickness. Doctor said that over time, your astigmatism can change, so if your contact corrects for it, it might not be lining up well. Just some food for thought having recently had problems with one eye. Hope you get it fixed!

Nope, I don't have astigmatism. I have worn glasses or contacts since I was 13, so I go to the eye Doc. Often, I was just there a couple months ago and he didn't see anything, now, something could have changed m, but I think it's just the nerves in that area. I may need to just go back and have him look at it again to be sure.

Good idea to keep a close watch on your eyes after shingles. It is a dangerous disease especially on the face near the eye.

I've seen him 3 times this year and he has said that he doesn't see anything so I should be good there, I think it's just that the nerves are all sorta messed up in that area causing some issues. I just wish it would stop, but apparently it will take a long time to completely heal.

God I've been constantly refreshing eBay over the past week. Most of my listings had watchers but only a fraction actually got bids, then two of those didn't pay. Now I've got them relisted for another week.

I know patience is the name of the game with eBay but it's tough when I'm trying to get a f7 hybrid with the proceeds AND get it in play this year while the weather is nice.
