X or T... 2017 (late 2016) iron reviews/ most wanted?

Will there be a new most wanted list for irons?  I'm buying some new ones soon and wanted to seek a little guidance from brand agnostic sources... I've got a few I'm looking at currently that I will be putting a spare set of Dynamic Gold Tour Issue Black S400's in... I also want something that's userfriendly for "the golfer that wishes he had 2-3 days a week to practice but really has 2-4 times per month he can go play... IE, GI near shovels...

I've been looking at a few already

Callaway Apex Black (which CPO pissed me off today when I called to ask condition on as they were rated "good" which describes as a few seasons of play for a few of the irons (no full sets in the CPO site yet).

Also looking at the JPX 900 Forged

JPX EX (2016)

Titleist T-MB

a few Srixon and Bridgestone product

TM 770

TM M1 (slots on the face again? yuck)

Titleist AP1/AP2

I need the help those provide.  I'm not looking for players irons or blades, per se.

Titleist guy here, so AP1/AP2 would be my vote (TMB's look interesting - haven't tried them, but they are pricey).

 

The JPX-900 forged seem to be the hot ticket right now - I would give those a look too!

If you want something small, but not quite bladey, srixon 745/765 might be exactly what you're looking for

I like the looks of the Callaway Steelhead irons . I ❤️ the dark finish as it reminds me of my Cally XF irons

I went through this earlier this year and hit a bunch of clubs and ended up going with a full set of TMBs. So far I like them a lot and really like the ball flight even more than my Hogans and Apex Pros.

I have a Wishon account and built and sold a set of Sterlings after one range session. Didn't work for me

Thing about those are they're bore thru and a PITA to reshaft correctly. I called about the apex black as I've got a set of DG Tour Issue black onyx to put in whatever I'm going to play

Two sets stand out for me. The AP2's are and continue to be one of the best irons out there for all round looks, feel and playability. However, having tried them last week, I prefer the P770's. A classic looking club with great all round performance and feel. They edge out the AP2's by a whisker, but I'd have no hesitation in sticking them in my bag - and I'm a die-hard Titleist fan.

Yes we will be testing the full bag this year.  Driver testing ends in about 2 weeks and then irons start after that.

Cool. I tried to find last year's but only found 2015 iron testing as a few irons I've been looking at were released last year. If these new P770's don't work out I'm going list shopping next

I've got my P770s pre-ordered, but Taylormade says they won't ship until release day on Friday. Awesome that you were able to get a set early. Let me know how you like them. I've loved them every time I've demoed them. I've hit them at 4 different locations. At a Dick's Sporting goods, the employee said this about them, "Yeah, that set feels nice, but I don't know why anyone would want to play blades. I prefer those Steelhead XRs over there." I'm not sure if he's actually ever seen a blade in person or not. Dick's hires some knowledgeable employees, don't they?

Haha... the Dick's guy completely contradicts himself... "it feels nice, but why would you want to play it (something that feels nice) ?"
