So I won an eBay auction on a set of TM p790’s 5-pw for $750

theyre supposed to have one round only away from being brand new, an easy 9.8/10

the reason I chose these was that they’re mint, and they have a reg. Flex smacwrap recoil shafts in them. As I’m at the point of time/age where I’ve been seriously thinking of easing away from Stiff shafts, and I have a lot of arthritis problems in my fingers and elbows, these shafts are about as “soft” as one can get.

my only concern is that they’re 1/2” long, so I might end up needing to slice that off the butt and regrip-  but I’ve heard that isn’t really a difficult task? Anyone know for sure?

but, I’m really stoked, and I think I got a pretty good deal.. might need to buy another sm6 for a gap, but not sure how my gapping will go for that, as I’m not sure how long the PW is going to go yet.. but it will be fun trying to figure it out. I’ll keep an eye out for a 790 GW in the meantime too, as that’s also another option on the table...

Exactly, this is piece of cake easy. Measure twice, cut once.

Choke down and experiment a little before trimming. FYI if you have an air compressor you can blow off the current grips opposed to spending another $100 on new ones.

Yes I do, when I put my new grips on last time, half of them wouldn’t come off, they were stuck on seriously...

im using mcc plus 4’s now, so choking up on some regulars will probably not work, but I’ll definate try them first

Good point chocking down will definitely shrink the diameter thus making your hands much more active.

I would be going nuts!! One of the golf stores here gives me a P790 7 iron to warm up with whenever I try a club there. It always performs beautifully

the new clubs are fantastic feeling, about a club longer I guess. But the combo of the p790 heads on the recoil smacwrap 760 f3 is delicious.

a little long shafted, but choking up seems ok. I want to be absolutely sure before cutting them down. They might be bent up a degree or two as well, so it looks like a trip to the fitter to get them dialed in. But overall I’m quite happy. Need to get a few rounds under my belt before I can really talk em up...

Being 62, and almost 63, my swing speed isn’t going up. So being around 80 mph with a 7 iron puts me right to where a regular flex is now my baby. Going from a stiff plus Steelfiber 110, to a 72 gram regular had me a little nervous, but it was seamless. The p790 heads are a wonderful feel, and mated to the recoil smacwraps, is blissful to hit. You still know where you hit it, and good hits are awesome, and less than ideal hits are not punishing at all.

hopefully I’ll get more feedback tomorrow...
