2019-Official Forum Member Review-PING Blueprint Irons

Recommended Posts

I was able to hit a few shots today with the Blueprint irons that were really wonderful - knockdowns, hold off shots, high, low, draws, fades - just so, so solid. And surprisingly forgiving for a blade. I hit one shot in particular a bit on the toe with the 9 iron and it carried a bunker and set up a birdie I did not deserve. With only having 2 clubs I don't have a tremendous amount to offer but these clubs are doing exactly what I wanted them to do, which is about as high a compliment I can offer.

I have really enjoyed the i500's - I feel like they have helped me get my game back but the short irons were difficult to finesse; enter the Blueprint irons. Played Kickingbird in Edmond today - course was in great condition - we had rain this morning so the greens were really receptive and rolling great. I had two shots today that demonstrate why the Blueprint irons are so great: on the par 5 15th I had 102 for my third shot - playing into a bit of a breeze from the fairway - I hit a little PW to 6ft

IMG_4301.jpg.9faa44b927300dae9003c7bb27455010.jpg

On 17, a 407 yard par 4, I had 124 from the light rough:

IMG_4302.jpg.8fbf3b421feeac82749983adc9d13cda.jpg

Because of how great the PW is, I have taken the Glide 50* out so that I could put my Adams 4555 19* 5 wood back in the bag which worked out perfectly for me today - I had a 2 putt birdie on the par 5 12th due to the 5 wood but I digress - the Blueprint irons are legit.

Glad you’re having success with them! What do you think about a 6-8 capper playing them?

That's a great question. Probably but it honestly depends on how good a ball striker they are. I do find these extremely forgiving for a blade due to the tungsten in the toe but honestly a more forgiving iron would likely be better in terms of scoring potential.

Work meeting tomorrow. I’ll have to stay overnight, and it just so happens there is a course at the hotel...

The test is going to be straight up against my previous set, prepping for the tournament on Friday. Ok it’s just a scramble, but I still want to win.

I don’t see the Blueprint’s getting taken out of the bag, but I am doing a one for one shot on the course. Mano a mano.

That should be a great test - that's something I would enjoy doing but honestly I love a bit of forgiveness when I get into the middle irons and above. What iron is that? 7?

The wedge from the Blueprint irons continues to impress - had two lovely shots Monday one from 102 and the other from 98 that were just amazing - both shots set up birdies. So easy to control and flight the ball. It has literally made my 50* of no value because I can hit the shots I need with the pitching wedge.

Tomorrow will be a total test of my game and these Blueprint irons!

Scramble with a bunch of people from work. There are some screwy rules but, they are in for a bladed treat tomorrow.

Can’t wait to pull the 2 iron and rip some stingers with it. Won’t be able to take any video, but I’ll do a post Scramble break down, I plan on keeping real score because I doubt we will be using anything but my shots for the majority.

I’ll be back tomorrow to let you all know how they performed under “pressure”.

So how was it? Inquiring minds want to know...

I will say that after playing 2 clubs - I am a bit jealous to not have the whole set to test but I'm living vicariously through you 😂🤣

Had I used my ball for the entire round, I think I would have been 2-4 over.

But we had to use one shot from each person on each hole.

I was throwing absolute darts with the irons today. 10 approach shots inside 12’, a few in the 12-16’ range, two par 3’s were inside 4’.

My missed greens were a short under clubbed, and long but just off the back on the fringe.

Driver was holding us back for the majority of the front 9.

That's great! I read on the one plane thread how far you were hitting your irons - quite impressive - you are a good full club stronger than me but the accuracy numbers are great. I'm really happy you are finding your MOJO again.

As you may have read in my one plane swing thread, my game is coming along nicely.

Here is some tee marks on the 2 iron from hitting stingers yesterday. The toey one is actually 3 shots, and the one towards the middle/heel is one.

IMG_6360.JPG

They all ended up within a few yards of each other and flew on the same trajectory, and same shape.

Getting more comfortable with the swing, and using these clubs. I had been working a little with the old set around the yard because of rocks and sand. But taking these to the course is a piece of cake.

Sound, another selling point for this type iron. These are a muted, acoustically pleasing sound. They want to be hit.

Have a listen to the nice high bomb pure 2 iron fade. Carried around 215.

Good stuff Shankster - glad things are firing on all cylinders. I would enjoy hitting the 2 iron - I have an MP 14 1 iron I still hit and my guess is that they are basically the same loft.

I'm going to sound a bit like a broken record here since I only have the 9 and W but these clubs are so good. They are rightfully identified as "scoring clubs." My one challenge with the i500's is the high center of gravity - that's an issue for me because I tend to be pretty shallow in my delivery. The Blueprints are so easy to play with differing approaches into the ball depending on the type of shot I'm trying to hit. I am really enjoying hitting different speed shots with these irons - I have talked about how good the Wedge is and it is but I want to talk about two particular shots with the 9 iron from Monday's round. The number 2 handicap hole at Kickingbird Golf Club is the par 4 4th - it typically plays into the prevailing wind and is a slight dog-leg right with woods guarding both sides of the fairway. The fairways pitches from right to left and has a fair amount of slope to it depending on where you land. From the blue tees, it plays 398 yards but plays a bit longer due to the wind. I hit a high baby fade off the tee with driver and left me with 139 yards with the ball above my feet. The wind freshened a bit and I almost pulled 8 iron with the intent of hitting a knockdown but with the ball being above my feet with a very tight lie, I hit a full 9 iron. I normally carry 9 iron 136 yards but with the wind I was afraid it would come up short - I took a good rip at it and though I hit it flush, I couldn't see where it landed. When I got to the green, I had a 6ft birdie putt below the hole (which I made 😉 ).

Number 10 is a par 4 of 376 yards with a slight uphill tee shot that favors a draw. I had 127 yards left but I could just see the top of the flag - there was a slight breeze behind me and the ball was slightly on the upslope. I wanted to hit the 9 iron in order to flight the ball down and take some of the spin off the shot. I hit it very solid but I could see where it ended up. I had left myself about 8 ft below the hole and made birdie there as well. The only other birdie I had all day was on the par 5 15th (554 yards) and that was set up by my third shot of 119 yards to a back pin with the Wedge. These clubs are really, really good. I honestly don't think I will add any more because I enjoy the forgiveness of the i500 and I'm very interested to see what updates they might make to the i500 this next year but we will see.

I really appreciate Shankster allowing me to share some of my thoughts about these great clubs!

Really appreciate it OG.

I’ll be carving up some Bermuda Grass with these for a while.

I think even Sir Mix A Lot would like these.

How much of a flight gap (estimated) can you do with the same iron? For example how low/high can you flight a 3 iron?  If there was a grill on the course, I'd ask you to bounce a 6 iron off it with a ball into a trash can😉😁😅😂
