Only slice my driver?

Recommended Posts

I have gotten lessons and dialed in every club in my bag from my putter to my 3 wood. I can smash my 3 wood long and straight, even a 3 iron. Driver i'm all over the place... Any idea what I could be doing different between a 3w and a driver? Its the only club in the bag I cant seem to hit well. I've even played rounds without using my driver because of this. I know you guys cant tell me much without seeing my swing, I was hoping something was very common with drivers that isn't an issue with shorter clubs. My next lesson is in 2 weeks and I'll bring it up.

Thoughts?

Possibly using the same swing with driver and your irons and hitting down on the driver.

Are you still working with an instructor?

I agree with RickyBobby. When I start slicing my driver, I am coming down too steep and not making a good turn with my body. Try making a full turn and be sure to release the club on your follow through.

What is your natural shot, fade or draw. I am guessing it is a fade. Have you used Trackman to see the what the club head is doing. One of my friends hits the ball with a slight fade but when you look at the data he is actually swinging out to in but the club face is square at impact. The issue with a driver is the loft so he finds it hard to hit his driver and also looses distance. He generally hits his 3 wood further than his driver.

I'm just guessing, but it is the longest club in the bag.  It is also a club that we tend try to hit up on the ball to "launch it", which can magnify any slight face mishits.  Are you hitting the center of the club face?   Check with impact tape or foot spray.

My tendency is to block out my long stick; that is not getting my left hip turned enough. This causes my pushes/fade to the right.  The bad banana slices of the past are 98% gone based on some swing change (left hip out of the way and keeping my left shoulder raised a whisker), and a fitted, 20+ year newer technology driver.
