I purchased one and received it last week. Have 1 round with it at this time but I can definitely say it is much better than the H4 for ease of use on the course and navigation between screens. The only improvement I would like to see is adjustment for screen brightness. While visibility is fine on the course, it is hard to see clearly in lower light conditions or glare. It is stated the reason for this is to save battery during operation.

Why do you think it is easier than the h4?   I thought the H4 was extremely easy to use.

I bought the X5 a few weeks ago and have 3 rounds in so far. Pretty easy to use. I adjust my putts during the round and edit everything else post round.

Just my opinion but wearing on my wrist as I would my watch makes it more readily accessible. The H4 has to be removed from wherever you choose to store it to view the screen and make inputs. Inputs are virtually the same, however, watch is more ergonomically friendly for my use than the cube.

It's off-topic, but I did get an email from Voice Caddie about the new Golf Watch T11. Some of the features look nice, but I know from previous releases they look better than they perform. I wonder what the Garmin users will have to say…lol

Comparing the V5 to the H4, do you still have to tap the tag to the watch, or does it pick it up automatically during the swing?

I have the H4 and still have to remember to tap before I make my shot (or right after...). As I am not usually wearing a watch, I am not sure if moving to the V5 will work for me or if that will not be a big change. I can see that maybe it's worth it if the whole "tap to register club" gets easier or is not required at all...

I've quickly browsed through the V5 user manual. It seems you get a set of "version 2"-tags that you have to install into your clubs and those enable automatic tracking as long as the tag is within 10cm range of the wrist band of the V5 when you take the shot. Seems easy enough.

I'm wondering what happens if you grip the club lower (chip shots). Does the watch have sensor that still record a shot in that case? And what about practice swings? I guess as long as you don't move away (gps-wise), only the last swing should get recorded.

Maybe @William P can explain this a bit more?

I’ve found that even when you grip lower the tags usually pick up. Shotscope does recommend to take a few practice swings prior to your shot to ensure the tags do register. I’ve found that practice shots don’t register, usually because it will disregard swings with the same club that are within a few yards of each other. To be honest the tags work very well and I’ve had V3 and X5 models with no issues

Personally, I have seen no difference in performance between the older set of tags and the new, "version 2" tags. I keep a set of each on different sets of irons that I'll occasionally swap in and out of my bag. For chip shots and others where you choke down, you can grip the club at the end first, or you can look at the watch to see if the tag has been sensed. Once it has, it doesn't matter how you grip the club, just take a couple of practice swings.

I have the X5 Watch, and the band of the watch pickups the tag on the clubs, you don't have to TAG it manually. That is the one thing I love that, I don't even think about it.. it automatically does it.

@ToastedSoul The installation instructions advise that the older version tags remain compatible with the V5 watch, however, recommend installing the newer version released tags for enhanced performance. While I only have one round at this point, I did find two shots that did not scan the tag properly. I added these in the after round edit. As others have stated, I have made a mental note to take a look at the watch to ensure club selection in future rounds. Basically, the V5 operates the same as the H4 you currently use.

As I recall the explanation from SS the only difference was only in the length of the (screw) sensor, and that the underside of the sensor was concave allowing a tighter fit to some grips.

Ok, you guys got me convinced. I ordered the V5.

Shot scope sent me a discount link a few days ago, but I still found it cheaper here: https://www.golfonline.co.uk/shot-scope-v5-gps-performance-tracking-watch (but I guess it depends where you live etc).

I really like the data I’m getting from ShotScope and will give my Connex set up a full season before making any changes but I’m already leaning towards changing to the V5 next year. Maybe I’ll get the hang of using the app and it will work smoother with more time.

Question for other Shot Scope users. I broke the screw off my putter sensor late last season, after which I used manual putting (SS was out of stock on the putter sensors at the time). Do I recall correctly hearing that the X5 watch will read V3 sensors? If so, is there any reason I couldn't use my V3 putter sensor as a replacement?

Yes you can use your sensors from your V3 with the X5. I still have my V3 sensors in despite having the X5 and have had no issues with it picking them up

You could also use double sided tape to stick the sensor on the end of the grip.   SS sells this option for those with superstroke grips.

G5 (not X nor V) -- underwhelmed.

Had an X5, and previously a V3 and a V1.

Issues with the X5 for me included occasional trouble accessing menus via the touchscreen during a round, didn't like that it powered on with the lightest briefest touch on the crown button, and .. I had noticed discrepancies between distances read out on the course (eg Last Shot) vs distances recorded for a shot.

Also, honestly, I got lazy about doing all the post-round editing. (..if you don't have accurate data then you don't have accurate stats...)

I have a Golf Buddy watch that seems to work well but one thing it doesn't give you that I'd like to see is Last Shot distance.

So decided to pick up the G5 to get that feature (not really interested in shot tracking right now, I informally mark other round stats on the scorecard).

After charging it and scanning thru the user guide the first thing that caught my eye - and yeah this is minor...20240420_150135.jpg.0dd445e791d7f7051b16fb070ed9170b.jpg

It's actually 12:21 PM .. and the watch has the right time set and the format is 12hr.

Switched it to 24hr and that displayed as expected.

The next thing I noticed is the size of the display portion vs the size of the watch face - don't have the X5 or V3 anymore to compare but I think, maybe, the display area here is smaller..?

Also look at it next to the Golf Buddy where the cases are almost the exact same size...

20240420_154912.jpg.2ee4457e3480ce2cf9b0fef6999dc408.jpg

Again, relatively minor in the grand scheme of things.

But...

Here's my biggest problem with this device - I don't think the yardages it gave me are correct.

Now, caveat, this was only one round on one course so far .. and this course was recently updated when I synced it to the watch...

I wore both watches side by side to see how they compare on the course with readouts to hazards and on approaches...

I'd stop at 150 and 100 markers when I passed them, and also at sprinkler heads if they were marked and I know from doing this in the past that the Golf Buddy is consistently within 1-2 yards .. almost always on the long side (eg reads 102). This was the same on this round.

The G5 was either spot on or - more often, I didn't keep count but def a majority of the times I looked, was 4-8 yards SHORT...

This discrepancy persisted on almost every approach - with the most egregious example of a 12 (TWELVE) yard difference between the two watches...

  • Golf Buddy said 52 to the middle of the green and G5 said 40
  • (sorry I accidently deleted that pic off my phone 🤦‍♂️)

Looked like 50ish to me .. no one right behind me .. so paced it off from my ball to what looked like the middle .. and yeah I estimated it at much closer to 52 (approx 50 by my very UN-scientific method) than it was to 40.... 🤔

I suppose I could request customer support to re-map the whole course, but again it was recently updated.

Also no immediate plans to play another course vs at my club, but I will do another side by side to see if the same things happen.

...

So if anyone else has picked up a G5 and has noticed anything similar - or if it does measure correctly - please post in here to let everyone know...

I received my V5 the other day. So far I charged it, updated the firmware and connected it to the app. As I had (and still have) the H4, and someone mentioned the "old" tags still work with the V5: Can I just take the V5 with me to the course and it should all be fine? There's no need to explicitly register the old tags with the V5, correct? I plan to change the tags later anyway, but I have a practice round planned tomorrow and it would be nice to test the V5 there already.

Played 1 round with the V5. Coming from many watches and years with Garmin. Looking for the analysis that Garmin is sorely lacking. I have one question on the watch and a few on the analysis:

  • On the face of the watch it did not show my score vs par. If I hit the top left button the score card would open and accurately had my score.
  • In the analysis I had 33 putts on the scorecard, however in the detailed analysis it said my current and best putts per round were 31.
  • For driving distance, fairways and greens in regulation the current round and season numbers were identical which make sense as I only had one round played. But for the up and downs my current round was 35% and season was 42%.

Just about every other data point I could verify as being accurate.

No need to register the tags. All should be fine. Just check at each shot prior to setup to ensure the club has been recognized.

I have not looked into the scorecard feature so I am not able to answer positively but I don't believe the V5 will show your score vs par on the face. With regard to the putts, have you uploaded, edited and signed off the round? This may clear up the differences noted as I have seen some calculations change when this process is completed.

Not sure about the V5 but the X5 shows your score vs par in the top left corner during a round. The his is just displayed as a number, +5 etc

Your score doesn't appear on the face of the X5 either, only if you select the score then it will show you. It show what Par should be.
The one thing I notice with X5 with putts, when you review the score on the dashboard, it be take into account where in the green you were putting from, I seen where for some reason the green/flag was in the wrong place and it thought I was putting from the fairway instead of the green or vice versa. So I always just double check, its not 100% but its about 95%.
