Popular Post ILMgolfnut
OK, y'all, this was the weirdest round of golf I've ever played in my life, today at Pinehurst #1. Weirdest nine, actually; all the craziness happened on the back nine. There were three ball collisions on the green; two were other guys hitting mine, one was my ball hitting theirs. But that's not the weirdest thing. When I get tired, my swing mechanics go to hell and I start topping and chunking and shanking, and boy, did that happen today. I was playing with three guys named John, Chris and Jack; Chris and Jack were both Pinehurst locals. John and Chris were in carts, as was I; Jack was walking and carrying his bag. I'm in the middle of one fairway (13, I think) trying to hit a 7-wood to the green, and I shanked that sucker dead left. Jack was carrying his bag and walking behind me. My shankapotamus headed straight for Jack. It hit the bag slung across his right shoulder, popped up into the air and landed -- and stopped -- on the shafts of his clubs in the bag. It remained there long enough for Chris to drive over and confirm what we were seeing and disbelieving, then the ball fell out on the fairway, and I played it from there. How many penalty strokes should that have been? No idea, but my back-nine swing was enough of a penalty, after I shot 44 on the front nine. I haven't added up my back nine score, and I'm not sure I will. But now I REALLY am motivated to get on Fit For Golf and never repeat a back nine like this again. Jack said we should have gotten video of the ball sitting on his iron shafts. I had my phone (always have to be reachable for work during business hours), but it was 50 yards away on my cart (CPO on that hole today). Popular Post Indy_Oz
Good evening Spies, @BreakfastBall15- wishing you a speedy and complete recovery! Hope the liquid and soft diet is short lived. I know the stress of waiting for biopsies all too well. Sending positivity and hope for the best outcome. Managed to squeeze in some practice today on the sim, but really need to find time and warmer weather to get out on grass ranges and practice bunkers! @GolfSpy_KFT- the sandbagger article is interesting. I was accused of this in my league debut last year. I shot +1 on a 9-hole course having only returned to golf the prior summer and having no official handicap. I hadn't shot below 80 at that point, but had lessons and practiced a ton over winter. My estimated handicap was around 12 (per 18Birdies), so I was being open and honest. But I played a blinder with 3 birdies and lipping out an eagle chip. The league organizer immediately dropped my 'handicap' for the league down to about 5 and I never shot that low in the league again. Ha ha. Popular Post ILMgolfnut
Speaking of Pinehurst, the USGA now has The Cradle with a slope rating so you can post scores from there, part of the handicap extension to short 9-hole courses and short 18-hole courses. I tried to post my scores from four weeks ago, when I did not have a case of the shanks, and it told me I needed to post scores in a timely manner. It let me post both rounds, okay, but the date of the rounds is shown as today. Oh well. Maybe if I get up the nerve to figure up and post my back nine score today, the +2 I shot on the second Cradle loop would make up for it. But I doubt it. One more detail from today: The most reliable club in my bag was the driver; I hit seven fairways before my swing went to Mars or something. But on #8, a dogleg left par-4, my little cut aimed down the left side and hit just over the top of the hill in the bend. I was looking for it around 200-210 yards because, well, that's where I hit the ball normally when I catch it well. But John waved me down to the bottom of the hill, and there I was. GPS says it was 250 yards; I haven't hit one 250 in 30+ years. Yeah it benefitted from the downhill roll, but I had to hit it far enough to get to the downhill. So, of course, I chunked my approach and wound up with a bogey. My only par today was #4, a par 5 of about 460 that I hit the green in regulation and two-putted for par. Which was my only GIR. I had a similar incident involving a tournament that I had played in as a 7 handicapper. When you play a tournament and shoot one of your best rounds you are penalized severely. I understand why that’s the case and it is account of the cheating that happens if the handicapping system is taken advantage of , but it does not make you feel any better . Back to the tournament, I had shot a career round (76) 14 pars and 4 bogeys which doesn’t sound even exciting honestly , but when I posted that round later that day , my handicap was immediately adjusted from a 7 to a 3 . Of course the next day I shot an 85 (lol) in the last day of the tournament and adjusted to an 82 instead of the normal adjustment of a 78 . Oh well , that’s golf That put me into the first flight and it took 2 months to “normalize “my handicap Edited March 21 by THE GOLF GUY berkeleybob, ILMgolfnut, Rob Person and 8 others 11 Quote Taylormade Stealth 2 10.5* Fujikura Ventus 5 S (tipped an inch) @ upright @9.75* Taylormade Stealth 2 HL 16.5* 3 wood Fujikura Ventus 6 S Taylormade Stealth 2 7 wood Fujikura Ventus 7 S Taylormade P7MC 5-PW Aerotech Steelfiber I 95 gm R Tileist SM09 54 & 60* wedges Ping Anser Bridgestone BXS

Popular Post PapaGoose8
Pinehurst was SO much fun! Anyone that hasn’t played it, you should if you can. We had the last tee time of the day on 4 and the three groups in front of us canceled, so we weren’t pushed at all and played fast. Similar to @ILMgolfnut my best club today was my driver, followed very closely by the putter. First round with the new Ai Smoke TD and it did not disappoint. Best drive was on number three, slight dog leg left playing about 380 today. I carried a left side fairway bunker that was about 260 and mush have caught a downhill just right because I had only left 68 yards as my approach. I’m not a long hitter by any means, but that was a confidence booster and carried me most of the round. That drive even made one of the Pace Rangers $1 when we came back around to #13. He said he saw my drive on 3 and bet another ranger I’d out drive the fairway bunkers on 13 . The one hole that ate me up was 14. Short par 3 well protected by water and traps. I hit two really bad tee shots into the left water and ended up with a 7 and took away any shot I had at shooting in the low 80s. Putting today is really what save me from shooting high. I was rolling the best I have in a while and was reading really well. Sunk a couple of 25 footers for par saves. Overall a really good first round to start my trip with a 43, 44. Sitting at work and thinking about driver practice this afternoon at lunch. Going to be a turtleneck session again! Hope everyone has an awesome day and you're able to get some golf in! sirchunksalot, MattWillGolf, Woodrow72 and 13 others 16 Quote Driver: Aerojet LS 10.5 Kai Li 60R 3 wood: M2 Irons: Speedblades 4i-PW Wedge: CBX Sand: Wilson Pro Staff Putter: Spider Ball: Pro shade Cart: Quad XL "The more I work and practice, the luckier I seem to get.” -Gary Player “The proper score for a businessman golfer is 90. Popular Post Woodrow72
Good morning all, been missing last couple days as we have house guests but things are settling down so I’m back . Another first here in central Florida with temps starting in the high 40’s in spring time but hopefully this is the end of it . No golf today as it’s practice day , March madness is heating up so most of the day shall be watching the matchups . May you all enjoy the day , make the most of the opportunities and share your blessings . Have surgery today to remove some teeth and a tumor in my jaw so gonna be no golf for a few days according to the doc. But really the thing I’m not looking forward to is not eating anything today and living off applesauce and mashed potatoes for the next few days Thus the new on course nickname "toothless" was born. Seriously though, hope it goes smoothly for you. ejgaudette, Josh Parker, Dead Solid Bogey and 12 others 15 Quote Stack Referral code Driver - Sim2Max 10.5° (set at 9*) UST Helium shaft 3W - StealthHL 16.5° 3h - Sim2max 19° irons - Sim2OS kbsmax85mt steel shafts reg flex 5i-Aw wedgies - Jaws MD5 52°-10° (Bounce) S Grind Jaws MD5 56°-12° (Bounce) W Grind Putter - Mizuno OMOI Type II Final Sugar "Pure" Golf Balls Review
Popular Post Erin B
Good morning MGS troops! My alarm didn’t wake me up because my spousal unit fell asleep on the couch. I didn’t want to try to get her into bed because she was out. So los poopies of course slept with her. This was my wake up. I must have slept pretty hard because I woke up exactly like the gif shows. Today we may get a call about the biopsy. The stress is unreal. I had an opportunity to play today and didn’t have the urge. Here’s to hearing good news. Happy Thursday to you all, have a blessed day, and if you’re playing, happy birdie hunting! snoopy79, Kenny B, Cfhandyman and 15 others 17 1 Quote I could play golf every day and learn something new each time.
