So GOOD MORNING!! and kinda not but it is funny story to start the day - we usually set up the coffee the night before, so on weekend mornings we can just hit the switch (weekdays are on Auto).

Did that a few minutes ago, went and did some important personal business in that small tiled room, went back for the nice, fresh, hot, aromatic, strong black coffee .. nothing....

A brief feeling of panic and angst rise up inside .. even tho I have backup coffee makers (plural) and spare carafes (plural: someone around here is prone to uhh mishandling them)...

.. followed by a moment of calming ommm and contemplation followed by the ok embarrassing realization that that same someone totally forgot to pour in the water last night.....

Well at least it's ready now, and it's a nice day out, so maybe a little bit of golfing before it gets to raining *again* a few days in a row later this coming week.

Get out there and make it a great day!!

Good morning, Spies!  

I recently posted about a young man from my town that is competing at the Master's Drive, Chip, and Putt competition this morning.  For those that are interested, Brock's father shared the following message on FB early this morning.

Matt Jernigan is with Kyleigh Jernigan.

Awake at 2:30am, imagine that…. I’m already nervous for my little man, but I’m watching Brock sleep so soundly. I don’t know if he fully grasps the magnitude of what this all means. In about 6 hours we will drive down the famed Magnolia Lane. He will walk in the same places as Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods and Arnold Palmer. He will meet people that have shaped the game of golf and our world.

As Mike Tirico said at the banquet last night, all these kids here are already champions. He has worked so hard to get here and he deserves this. This game has taught and given him and me so much. It’s about composure, skill, practice when no one is watching, and so many more life traits. But more than that, it has given us memories that will last a lifetime. From putting on the 18th green at Whispering Oaks Golf Course at 2 years old with a little plastic club to putting on the 18th green at Augusta National. From crying together after losing the Regional in Colorado for the 2nd time to crying tears of joy at that same course when he qualified for the DCP Finals.

Someone said last night that Sunday will be the “best day of my life” and man does it truly feel like that is the case, BUT, as a friend of mine says a lot, “the best is still to come”. My prayer for Brock tomorrow isn’t championships, it isn’t a 240 yard drive down the pipe or sinking a putt to win it all, my prayer is that he sees God working in his life. It’s that he sees that hard work really does pay off. He sees that even in the biggest stages, with the most to lose, he can still smile no matter the outcome knowing that golf doesn’t define who he is, God does.

So as you wake up in the morning on Sunday, April 7th, please take a second to send up a prayer for my little man. Pray that he can show the ability that God has given him to the best of his ability and for the glory of God. Pray that no matter the outcome that he can enjoy the experience. And at the end of the day, he will know that we are, as my grandad used to say, “so proud”. Dang my grandpa would have been on cloud nine today.

Thank you all for all of your support and kind words through all of this. It truly has been overwhelming the amount of support we have seen. Please hear our heart-felt thank you. You don’t know how much it means to us and him.

Well here we go. Augusta National, look out, the Jernigan’s are coming!

Good morning spies! It has been a week since the hernia showed up and no golf. This lack of being able to play has left a big hole in my daily activities. Ce La Vie. Hope everyone has a fine Sunday!

Good Morning everyone!!  Well, yesterdays round was a chore.  Temps in the 40’s with wind 15-30 mph; I was back wearing 4 layers.  At least the sun was out!!  Shot another 81… seem to stuck on low 80’s.  Started out with a 44 on the front nine with a TRIPLE on the par 5 #5… straight into the wind; 4 shots to get to the green… well actually the 4th shot went over the green and down the slope 10 feet below the green surface.  Better on the back nine when it warmed up a little; shot 37.

Today we get to do it again… same conditions; maybe a little less wind.  The good news is that a warming trend is coming with temps in the 70’s.  Looking forward to playing again in shirt sleeves!!  BIL is coming today from Seattle and we are playing tomorrow as well.

Top of the Sunday pot spies!   NOAA says we've tied the all time record low temperature for this day. We'll take it... since we know full well what is around the corner .  Our Project Healing Waters event yesterday went off well and while fishing was a bit slow (cool weather not helping), most did catch a fish or two.  The burgers and side dishes were tasty and everyone had fun.

No golf today.  I'm focusing on getting flies tied for a trip to Manitoba this June.  I've got a gazillion fly's but none for Northern Pike. 

I so miss my dedicated tying bench in MT... what a mess...hence the desire to get this task done. And, of course, there is the Fly Tyer's 3rd Law.  "No matter how much tying materials one has, there will always be one you need".  I'm heading over to a buddy's house later this morning for some red saddle hackle

@unccross, those are amazing finds.  My wife is gonna go nuts when I show these to her and she'll want to go fossil hunting.  I'd appreciate any details on where via IM if you don't mind.

Made it back to NY and just rolled out of bed which may be the latest I have slept in for the last decade. Left Thursday morning for a drive from LI to Charlotte and drove back yesterday. Finally able to admit that I have a road trip limit and it is about half the distance that I just drove. I don’t plan to do much at all today.

I always used a foam ear plug to make a frog popper fly for northerns. I found on monsoon days where the air is hot and heavy and fairly windless I can get bass to take them as well in a couple of the ponds on my course.

I have not tied this one (yet) but it looks like a good one.

SUNDAY, Sunday, Sunday is a day of REST….. NOT so fast my friends. “ Those People “ that pay my pittance, called last night and wanted me on a Zoom call at O’ Dark Thirty this morning . The call was laughable in that the ivory tower was late , very late to the fact that Texas will not allow certain permitted loads on the highways on Monday ( Eclipse related ). The answer to the quandary was rather easy… Hire third party drivers for today OR have some work crews sitting on their hands until late Tuesday. 
     The internet/ technology while a boon in many ways has also enabled and caused what use to be “ Village Idiots “ to go global. 
      @sirchunksalot congrats on the post count  milestone and having the female supervisory authority grant a semi release from incarceration. 
     My fellow spies;  may your Sunday be one that meets all of your day’s wishes and needs

I don't fish but my son is an avid fisherman here in Michigan and has been for a while.

I know he uses Spinners or Crank Bait lures for pike, but after you posted this I found the link below from a place in Manitoba with some advice and a picture that may help you out.

@cksurfdude I'm pretty talkative in a forum setting where I can think of my responses and type them out I am pretty quiet in real life, I live a relatively boring life and just don't have much to talk about unless it's golf. 

@Kenny B you were one of the first Members to take me in and for that I'm grateful. It's been a pleasure to get to know you here and I'm looking forward to actually meeting you. I've been wanting to for years. I think we'll have some fun at Kingsmill. 

@fixyurdivot I hope you can find some flies that are effective for Pike, that sounds exciting! I couldn't imagine going after them with anything less than a baitcaster and a steel leader. 

@Dead Solid Bogey I'm just the l thankful the female supervisory authority occasionally has some sympathy. I think she might have given me freedom because it's grocery day and I carry the heavy stuff.

Stomach has been bad all night.

And even if it were good I’d not be able to play golf today. Brutal winds. Trees are down all over Cheyenne. Top wind speed was 90mph last night. Still blowing and I’ll bet there are semi trucks that are on their sides across 80 and 25.

Yeah, they just lie down and go to sleep. Hope everyone has a blessed and wonderful Sunday!

Winds like that are scary! I hope you haven't had any damage done around you or to your house.

I died laughing at this! It's a lot easier for me to post in a setting where I can actually think about what I'm saying before opening my mouth. I tend to occasionally stutter because my brain sometimes out runs my mouth and gibberish comes out. I'm not horrible about it, but sometimes become a little self conscious.

Good Sunday morning Spies!

Looks to have the makings of a very nice day this morning. Appears the wind has finally laid down a bit. Must have blown itself out up in Cheyenne territory last night... From the sounds of it @Erin B had quite the eventful night. Hope you get to feeling better quickly. 

Congratulations on your 7000th post @sirchunksalot! Quite the milestone and looking forward to the next 7K. Good to hear you are getting a little reprieve from lockdown even if it is just for manual labor duties.

. As luck would have it the V5 showed up unexpectedly yesterday, and me not having prepared my defense statement...  Well, suffice it to say, it was a rather interesting and one-sided conversation... So one sided I didn't get to use @Dead Solid Bogey's personal tracker logic. My resident royal further proceeded to expound on the virtue of upfront communication as she advised me about her newly scheduled upcoming trip to her favorite quilt shop... Oh boy, this is gonna leave a major mark!  Worse yet, I am expected to provide chauffer services for this little excursion... 

No further need for welfare checks at this point, and the bruises should heal nicely in a few days. 

Everyone have a great day and if you have the opportunity keep 'em in the fairway and on the greens!

Sr...  I lived here,  been in this neck of the woods 5 years, looking forward this month, to the pga tournament starting on the 17th till 22nd,  im a volunteer. Going 6th time doing volunteer,  love it, get to talk with some of them, they give me advise, do not mind walking the 8 to 10 miles in the sun, for 5 days.

We get to play monday, as the course it been getting ready for members....

Let me know when you get here,  gladly will include you in whatever tournament or group playing around your time.
