What is everyone’s wedge setup

I’m just curious on what type of wedge setup everyone has in their bag. Most people would probably say that mine is a little unusual. I game three Titleist SM9’s brushed steel finish, I have the 48 10 F, 52 12 F, and 56 14 F, I’d say with 75% of my shots around the green I use my 52 with some awesome results, what does everyone else use??

I have a Sub70 286 50* Gap wedge that's my last full-swing club. I also use it around the green for bump and run shots when that's needed.

I have the Sub70 JB Full Groove 54* & 60* wedges for chipping and bunker shots.

Going forward my next set will be more 54 & 58 as I don't really see the need for the 60 in my game. Opening a 58 is enough for me.

I go 50,54 and 58. I use all 3 for full shots and chips. I use the 54 and 58 out of the sand . That usually depends on the distance.

Before I participated in the MGS review of the Paradym X irons, I was using a set of Ping G30's.  My PW was 45 degrees and I matched that up with three Edison wedges:  50, 55 and 60 degrees.  For me, I rely on both the Edison 50 and 55 degree wedges for my approach shots, around the green and in traps (mostly the 55 degree wedge).  I tracked my 60 degree wedge and I used it maybe a handful of times in a month maximum (playing 3 times a week).   When I started using the Paradym X irons, the lofting was different.  The PW is 41 degrees, and they added the AW at 46 degrees.  So, the gapping for me is still pretty consistent.  Because Callaway added the AW, I had to drop a club.   It was between the 3 wood and the 60-degree wedge.  The 3 wood is currently in the bag while my 60-degree wedge enjoys the air conditioning in my office.  We'll see if that changes and the 60-degree wedge makes its way back in.

Before I realized it was my swing mechanics not the aggressively lofted Paradym X's that caused some issues, I seriously considered the Sub 70 Golf 699 V2 irons.  When looking at the lofts, I realized I would need to make changes to my Edison wedges to accommodate the Sub 70's.  Their PW is 43 degrees, making it a 7 degree gap to my beloved Edison gap wedge.  If I eventually go with the 699 V2's, I'd probably go with bending my Edison wedge one degree stronger to 49 and weaking my 55 degree Edison wedge to 56 degrees to get a better spacing.

I would say mine is fairly standard. I dropped my set PW for a Vokey SM8 46°.10F. I also have a 50°.12F, 54°.14F, and 58°.12D. I have shots for each (1/4, 1/2, 3/4, 90%) I don’t really ever take full swings win the 50-54-58 unless I’m cause in a really awkward distance.

Depending on the course I will drop a wedge to add a driving iron or a 5-wood. Which wedge gets dropped is dependent on the course

I carry a 52, 56, 60 in my bag.  My 60 is used around the greens and sand on most shots.  I tend to hit the 56 the least but find it useful on 3/4 shots at under 100 yds

I've got set Aerojet PW and GW at 41.5° and 47.5°, then Snakebite 52° and 58°.  I use the 58° out of the sand and too often elsewhere.  I've come to realize that I don't use my PW all that much as its apparently a distance that just doesn't come up all that often.

I use 52-56-60. The 60 is great from the bunker or short sides. 52 is full most of the time and 56 is everything in between.

I have been using this combo for a while and I still like it.

52°, 56° and 60° TaylorMade MG2

  • 52° from 100-120 yds out and for about 15% of chip shots with some bite around the green;
  • 56° from 0-100 yds and for roughly 60% of all chip shots around the green;
  • 60° from bunkers, for flop shots and low one-hop-and-stop spinners (about 25% of shots around the green). I probably full swing my 60° no more than twice a year.

How was the move to a PW that wasn’t in the iron set? Do you get sufficient spin with the less than 90% shots with your 46 & 50?

I am moving to a 45 degree Edison wedge to replace my set PW and my next wedge is a 51 degree Edison. Hoping to get more consistent in scoring range with this move.

Practical golf FTW!

I've always had 2 or 3 Maltby wedges in my bag for a several years now.   I just switched to a set of Maltby PTM irons, so I'm trying out the gap wedge....not sure how I'll like the 48 * gap wedge....may use it for full swings more than chipping (we'll have to see how it goes).   For most chips I use the Maltby M-series 52* (bent to 54) and 56* (bent to 58).   Bending them also increased the bounce by 2*, which I find helps me.   I've even had some success lately with the 56 out of traps (where I need all the help I can get!!).

I just got fitted for wedges by Titleist 10 days ago. I’m getting three new Vokeys 48* F grind, 54* D grind and 60* D grind. The set up that I had before was very similar. It had the same lofts, but the 60 was an M grind that I liked to use around the green. Through some blind testing, we decided the D grind was the best option. Also, we changed the shafts from the stock DG S200 to KBS 120. I typically swing these 80% at most to cover anything under 120yds.

This past spring, I purchased JPX923 HM irons, 6i-GW (48*).  I chose not to include the 54* SW as I did full and partial swings with my very only Ping G15 PW (45), UW (50*) and SW (54*).  My feeling was the gap between 48* and 54* with the JPXs seemed to big.  Once I received the JPXs I spent a couple weeks getting a feel for distance, etc.  With the GW my full swing is about 105, maybe a few yards more, with really good spin/stopping power.

I was agnostic between Titliest, Cleveland, and Callaway wedges.  After receiving the JPXs, my club announced a Cleveland/Srixon fitting day so I signed up.  Intuitively, I was thinking 52* and 56*.  I have a very old 58* low bounce that I use green side and bunkers with a thin layer of loose sand, which I plan to still carry.

I wanted the 52 and 56 for full and 3/4 (actually I’m more 80% with tempo) swing shots, plus the 56 for  a variety of shorter shots and maybe replace the 58, but that’s not necessary. During the fitting, he settled on the RTX6 with a Recoil 760 F2 shaft.  At that time, I was getting about 90-95 yds with the 52 and 80ish with the 56.  I received  them last week and had one practice session and was around 95-100ish with the 52.

On Thurs, I played 9 holes.  On hole 2, I hit a great drive and had about 55 to the pin, and hit the 56 with partial swing to about 5 ft.  The ball landed, and stuck. We rushed to get an earlier TT so skipped putting warm up and lipped out the birdie putt.

On the Par 3 3rd hole, I hit my JPX PW to about 6’.  I get really good spin with this club and it just stopped, and again just missed the birdie putt.

On hole 6, I did a pull draw and was left off the green by a few feet, about 30’ from the pin.  I used the 56* with a 4 o’clock to about 2’ and made the par putt. It has a 10* bounce and feels very versatile.

Hole 8 par 3, hit the GW to about 10’ and made the birdie.

Hole 9 is a tough par 5 that always plays long. Hit a good drive, then a great second with my new Ping G430Max 4/5w leaving 59 yds to the pin (elated as I’m usually 130-140 away).  Hit my 56* with my partial swing to 18”.

Bottom line - live the RTX6.  They blend really well in terms of feel compared to my new JPXs.  Was initially concerned with the wedges being F2 while my irons are Recoil 460 F3, but in comparing the weight and torque, on paper they looked like a good match. In my hands, they are proving that right. What I really like is the precision I’m getting with the RTX6s.

I still need some range sessions to really get the yardages figured out, but initially I’m pretty close.

I game the stock set ZX5 PW/45 and AW/50, along with a PING Glide 2.0 56/12.  I've kind of fallen in love with the AW and probably use it more than I should (in lieu of the PING), but until it's broke, I won't fix it. 🙂  I did use the 56 today on a really steep uphill lie, to a pin location right on the edge of the green, about 15' above me. Threw it straight up and it sat right next to the hole.  That might move me to grab it more often 😆.

Playing Srixon Z585s.  I technically have 4 wedges, but PW is at 44 degrees.  Its an iron as far as I'm concerned.

From there I go purpose built wedges with RTX Zipcore 46 & 50 Mid's and a Mizuno T7 55/9 that will probably have the grooves worn smooth before I pull it out of the bag -- I can play any kind of greenside or bunker shot with it.   Higher lofts just aren't necessary (or a good idea💀) for my game.

edel wedges excellent accuracy IMO.  added S400 stiff shaft that work. Crazy part is I can't use in my Irons.  But they work in the wedges.
