How did I never get the notification I was tagged in this??? Unfortunately am full in July. Baseball tournament the 13th & 14th, and I take off for a week to Canada on the 18th. Looks like a fantastic time though!

Apologies for the slow response. I am going to have to bow out. I have a couple friends getting married this summer/fall and one of their bachelor parties is scheduled for the same weekend as this trip. Hopefully I can join next year!

Yep, the interstate is closed and it's supposed to get pretty bad out west. Luckily, we are both far enough east in Nebraska that we will just see some rain! We'll take the moisture though, should help the courses!

It does need to warm up though, I have a tourney on Saturday and our league starts Monday!

So, we have a foursome set but would love to set up another outing like this in the future. Lots of snow in central NE right now and the course is currently closed. I have a day off on April 15 and planning to get out and play if the course is open. Will send lots of pics to make everyone jealous.

Updating this for @Preeway as he's on an extended road trip - which includes Bandon!!

There are only 4 guys signed on so far, including myself, and unfortunately one had to drop out due to a serious injury.....

So there's a spot open! 

Dates:

Thurs July 18th (arrive at hotel) thru Sun July 21st

Play Friday, Saturday, Sunday on three different courses including Wild Horse

 

Cost: 

Approx $433 includes 3 nights at hotel and three rounds of golf

Update - @Erin B is in!!

So started previewing the first course, Bayside - looks very playable. Just as long as you hit every fairway and every green with every shot

I'm prob playing up from the big hitters to give myself a better fighting chance of hitting those fairways and greens (not in regulation)!

I played Wild Horse on Monday and Tuesday.  

It was in great condition.  The greens were rolling true and very fast--albeit, I learned to hit to the front third of the green to keep the ball from rolling off the back.   It was wonderful to play links style golf again without having to cross the Atlantic.

Thanks for the update. Hopefully the winds gods aren’t angry next week as all three courses are brutally hard when you combine strong wind with fast greens.

.. into what turned out to be quite the golfing adventure for each of us...

Challenging course.. especially your first time on it. Some blind tee shots over forced carries, some tough Par 3s and some very very firm, sloped and fast greens!

More tomorrow at Awarii Dunes 

 

Oh PS: wildlife sightings included a whole family of wild turkeys .. Mom, Dad and about 7 or 8 kids!

This would be a great annual event and @Preeway @cksurfdude and @BallsLeon have already been discussing it as one. Even looking at other courses in the area. Bayside was very very challenging with some greens acting like concrete. All the par 5s greens were small and hard. I don’t think any of us held them. The par 3s and 4s were great and fun to play. Par 5s not so much.

Actually not! There are definitely elevation changes on most of the holes .. and up and down, and of course the dreaded side, hill lies on much of the course. A bunch of sometimes deep gullies crossing the fairway or fronting the green on several holes.

So plenty of visual interest and navigational challenges

This course is towards the North West (I believe, I hope that's right) post of the state where the Sand Hills start. Further north is Sand Valley / Mammoth Dunes. 

Cooool place!! Def worth a visit if one happens to driving across I-80

I've only been through Nebraska a couple of times and most of what I could remember was how flat it was.... And corn. Lots of corn. I'm glad you're having a great time with a wonderful group.

Bayside was a really cool course, that asks two questions: Do you know where to aim off the tee, and can you roll your ball up onto the firm greens?

For me, the answer was often no but we had fun nonetheless lol. 

Heading out to Awarii Dunes tomorrow, excited to check it out! Hoping to build on the good swings from last round, and reign in my chipping game.
