Who's your Golf Swing Model?

Recommended Posts

Alright, so it's a BIT of a clickbaity title, I'll agree, as I'm not actually suggesting any of us 100% model our swing after one particular golfer.  However, there are definitely swings that I've seen that I WANT to emulate.  Lately, I've been most mesmerized by guys with incredible tempo and easy power; namely Jake Knapp and Eric Cole.  Their Unbelievably Smooth Power ("USP" - Trademark?) is incredible to watch, and at the range I've been trying to put a TINY percent of their swing into mine.  For me, it's mostly just a mental picture of their tempo, and then trying to swing that way within my own personal swing.

Who's got a swing that you've modeled part of your swing after? Anybody recent, or are you mostly looking at the Kings (Jack, Arnie, Tiger, Phil, Freddy, etc.)?

Let me know!

Jake Knapp is my idol for tempo right now!  Generally my thoughts are a swing like Tony Finau…trying to shorten my swing a little bit.  Have found I get very wild and inconsistent with long swing recently.

Combination of swings…drive like Rory, irons like Scottie, wedges/putting like Jordan.

Maybe someone like Rahm?  He generates alot of power and is very consistent without winding way back.  I find I get a little lost up there

Knapp is the mayor of tempo town, love his swing.

I am 6’6” and have always been mesmerized by Ernie Els and his swing, it’s something I’d love to replicate.

I think swings like Knapp and going older Els and Couples look so smooth and something I guess I would like to emulate.  I guess  their swings are so appealing because they seem to have a slower tempo and  aren't aggressive  in the transitions. But I can't say I reference any PGA pro when working on my swing  I just want to find what works for me since we are all unique.

100%.  I can't say I'm actively trying to mimic any one person's swing - but the tempo of both Cole and Knapp, in particular this year, have really had an impact in my desire to FLOW in a similar way.  I had a nice moment at the range yesterday with driver where I changed my grip just a little and saw immediate results - and that, combined with trying to elongate my backswing had a really, really nice impact.  Curious to see if it's a change that will 'stick' - I'm definitely more curious than anyone else if we can find a permanent thing that keeps driver from being so hot/cold.

Wasn’t familiar with Jake Knapp’s swing, that’s real nice!

I’ve watched this video of Fred Couples hitting balls at the range too much, it’s also pretty relaxing haha

Edit: Also a fan of Sungjae Im’s molasses slow takeaway, and then rip through the downswing.

I have to bring in Morikawa's iron swing. Something so beautiful in the "simplicity" of his whole motion. But it is way too early for me to attempt or compare how I swing to anybody else's. I would take Morikawa's any day though.

At my age and flexibility level I look to the Champions Tour and select Langer for a swing model!

I am a smaller guy, so I have always leaned towards Rory’s swing. I also grew up watching Tiger, so I’ve always wanted parts of his swings as well. It is nice to try to emulate a professional swing, don’t be afraid to swing your swing too. Scottie Scheffler is perfect proof of that.

Stealth 2 driver, Sim Max 2 3W, Nike VRPro 5W, Stealth irons, Cleveland ZipCore wedges, and Odyssey White Ice 330 putter. TP5x

I'm like @TJ Hall and try to take bits and pieces of things I see.

I like Morikawa's deliberate takeaway.
Hideki's pause at the top.
The way Scottie gets way left on the downswing.
Tiger's finish.

but when I'm playing my best I stop caring about what I look like and just focus on the results.
