Just want to share this past weekend's experience of playing a round of golf with my son.  He is fairly new to the game but has been putting in the work and it all started to show this past weekend.  We were hitting balls in the garage and he said "Wait, it's all in the timing at the top".  The light bulb hit him and he has hit some amazing shots since.  I generally play back tees and he plays the whites (his HS team plays from white tees).  He outdrove me on 6 holes with most in the shortgrass.  He is hitting his irons more pure than ever.  Once we can dial in his rhythm on short game and putts he will be even better.  We check our performance on the FS Mevo + and when he had this light bulb moment his club head speed increased by 12mph.  I cannot fully explain why, or how but everything just clicked.  With his newfound distance, he did lose a few balls this past weekend but that is just golf.  It was just an amazing thing to witness when he "got" what we have talked about for a while now.  One of the hardest things for me is to describe my "feels" in my swing, and translate it to him.  Doing this while also telling him, his "feels" may be different than mine.

you just described what keeps the kids coming back to the game, the "light bulb". and I am sure the look on his face was priceless... I truly believe the allure of the game of golf is a series of "light bulb" moments that we experience throughout our playing lives and yes even after 57 years of playing I get "light bulb" moments.

Just finished my morning round and really enjoyed the "cooler" weather before the heat kicks on. 

Played well and the long game is getting so much more consistent with ball flight.  Irons and short game are heating up and if the putting starts delivering, I'm looking for a low round. 

16th lipped out birdie putt 

Par 5 10th - left the birdie 8 in short

The lone birdie of the day.

Played Windmill Lakes this morning with @DiscipleofPenick.

I played OK on the front for a 43 but then went sideways for a 49 on the back for a 92 from the Blue tees playing 6500. There were flashes of something good but I just can't string those together.

Works great for me - a few quibbles here and there when it misses shots. 3 years in and my driver sensor is starting to die, but I need to replace the grip anyways (it's a built-in sensor). The data about my game really helps direct my practice time, and I found that it also allowed me to dial in distances within a round or two when I switched to a new set of irons.

Well, I had a forgettable round this morning. On more than one occasion I would hit a shot with my 7-iron and reach the green, only to bounce off. The greens are so firm, I can’t find pitch marks to fix. It’s been like that for a 2-3 weeks now, and frankly, I’m not sure what to do about that. I don’t remember the greens being like that last year.

After playing in a couple team events recently, I had my first regular round in a few weeks. Oddly felt like I hadn't touched a club in a year. Had been hitting new driver great previously, but had a serious case of the pulls. Short game was no picnic either, as pace control was off with a new putter I'm trying out. On the back 9 I managed to pull things together for the most part. I hit a great drive on the par 5 17th...only for it to somehow take a 90 degree carom into a hazard. Rub of the green! Shook it off to birdie the 18th and post a humorous 49-40 split. Looking forward to building off the strong finish next time out!

Had a decent round at league this morning. We only play 9. Shot a 40. Stats were not impressive. 4 Fairways and 3 GIR. But the rest of the story is 4 missed fairways were within 8 feet of the edge and 4 missed greens were all in easy putting range of the shot grass. So I wasn't totally disappointed. Yah, still work to be done but seeing some improvements.

I've hit that point. Time for a lesson- it's been 4 weeks since my last good round with rounds ranging from "promising" to downright "disastrous." The problem mainly is distance. I've lost a full two clubs on every one of my irons and woods, and then will randomly get it back usually when I block a shot right. 

Last week I talked to the pro and showed him a video. He gave me a quick tip that took me back to the promising end of the spectrum yesterday. Carded the same 47 I did the last time I played this 9 in league but had a lot more shots go right where I aimed them and gained a few yards back. With the lesson today, I'm hopeful he will find the solution to my loss of distance.

I don't know what is going on with Driver. I can't tell you the last time I hit it so poorly. 1st hole - OB right, 2nd hole - OB right. I was +5 after 2 holes and it didn't get much better. I had exactly 1 playable drive that resulted in a par. All the rest required some form of a positional shot. It made for a very long evening and in the end, I had my worst round in league since April of last year (47).

I have that happen about once a year with my driver.  My sequencing gets all screwed up and i start hooking like crazy.  Usually when i either dont play much or have only played in scrambles for a few weeks.  I go back to basics in set up and grip, do some backyard 50 yard wedge sessions with half swings and then a couple full bag range sessions.  Even though i start hitting the tee ball better it takes a couple rounds to get the hooks out of my head.

League night last night was a bunch of bad ball striking but somehow i ended up only two over. Golf is funny, i have had rounds where i hit the ball much better and scored worse!  I got beat bad in my match though, i was giving 9 shots and the guy shot a 43.  Oh well....i am a work in progress!

I have a strong suspicion there is a decent sized mental aspect to it - as it gets worse, quieting the thoughts gets harder. Definitely need to get to the range and get back to the basics. Grip, alignment, takeaway...

Saturday Morning Golf League:

This past weekend (6/1) we were at Chippewa Golf Club in Doylestown, OH. One of the best public courses in Northeast Ohio.

My golf game has been feeling really good to start the year. Shot a 78 (White tee) with a triple on 15, middle hole of the “Bermuda Triangle”.

Gable Oaks - 67 (+2)

Well, I'm very happy to share that I shot my lowest round this past Sunday! Going into this round I didn't know it was a short/practice course, but besides that I played amazing. The putter was hot and my ball striking was extremely consistent. 

I'm currently testing the Garmin S70 and CT10 Sensors. I made a post about this round if anyone wants to check it out:

I hear ya. And feel the pain. Last week I had to give up 10 shots and it is hard to recover from that up front over 9 holes. You can have an excellent round and he only a little better and you're toast.

Only Played 9 today, due to having eye appointment afterwards 

Played with a buddy who mostly hits from the tips. (And he can smash that ball!)

Can't really say I beat him, but I shot a 44 to his 46. Most of our drives ended up in the same vicinity though, within a few yards. (I played 2 tees up from him)

I was very happy with my fairway and wedges today!  Had 3, 3putts, but they were mainly because I landed or rolled on the highside of the pins 

Stix Driver was just okay, but I brought my 910D along for a comparison. I was easily 10-15 yards longer,  and path control/dispersion was definitely tighter with the titleist driver!

I also bought a dual levelier mic setup for the phone, this was also a round to test that out. This is new to me TECH. I APOLOGIZE ahead of time,  please excuse the horrible feedback and noise.

 

 

I'm going to be using only 1 mic though from now on, as you could hear the noise from my tees and ball in my pocket.  Lol. I was attempting to get my voice and set the other to catch the club an ball impact sounds. Also realized there is a distance capacity I reached frequently in post round editings.

Game of two sections last night, of the tee was all over the place. left, right, topped and down the middle it was luck of the draw.  Good job my short game and putting were playing nice. Why cant everything just work and not play up.  But I was fairly happy with the score to my handicap but left a few birdie putts short which annoys everyone.

No golf this week we are at the outer banks n.c. we usually play here but one of the guys had his knee replaced and he was really doing well than last week it started swelling up on him and he didn't want to to a chance golfing so we decided not to take our clubs either. Hope everyone is doing good and play well. Back to golf Monday.

I did slightly better, but was fighting a case of pulls most of the day. Driver got really wonky on the back. Irons were good, but I had to hit a lot of punch shots and keep the ball low because I kept putting myself in the trees. Still managed a 40/42 for a solid round. Short game didn't let me down.

Yesterday, I got to the course early to work on the range for a bit to improve my iron play. Range closed for mowing. Go out to play and not having the range session was very evident. I only hit 7/18 greens in regulation. Off the tee was decent, iron play was awful, wedge play was awful, and putting is the same story as Sunday. Pace is great, can't buy a putt to go in. 1 birdie, 6 pars, 10 bogeys, and one double bogey. 83. I get another crack at it today, so I'm hoping for a well improved day!

Currently on rain delay after 3 holes. Playing Reservoir Creek in Naples, NY. 8 iron from 152 for a 2. Golf is more fun when you don’t have to putt.

Easily the best round I’ve played this year at Reservoir Creek in Naples, NY. This course is gorgeous and if it weren’t for the 1 hour drive, I’d be here once a week.  

11 pars, 3 doubles, 1 Eagle, 1 Birdie and 2 Bogeys.

Tee to green I hit the ball great, highlighted by a hole out from 152…76 +5 and it was from some poor decisions on 3 holes.

8 putts for birdie inside 15 feet and could only get one to fall which is fine.  

Great day with Dad on the course.
