Popular Post ClevelandGirl
Shot a 97 at our golf group’s favorite course Indian Hollow Lake - not sure why it’s so underrated, but I love the Holler. Working on my putting is paying off, and my swing plane work definitely paid off. I lost 3 balls (hence the higher score ) but none of those balls were lost with my driver. Quite happy with where my driver is these days. Still getting used to my new fitted clubs. Going up a shaft level has been more of a struggle than I thought it would be, but things are starting to click now. My goal is to break 80, and hopefully one day play about half my rounds in the 80s. Baby steps to get there. Even better one of the lads hit a PB 81, so there was much celebration. So excited for him! Edit to add I had to endure teeing off in front of a group of (severely hungover) 20 somethings, and I don’t play well with an audience. However instead of duffing it as I usually would, my trusty TSR1 helped me throw one 185 yards center, and it was quite satisfying to hear “godd***!” and “holy s***!” from the peanut gallery. Popular Post cksurfdude
It was late Friday played 9 with my honey; a lot of people showed and there was a gap coming off #9 so we were able to play the Back 9. Recently I'd mentioned that tee shots and putting were working decently, but I was struggling with all the in-between shots.... Well, yep, this round that kinda flip-flopped... Tee shots were topped or popped up or pulled low-left. Putting was let's call it part of a learning process working on two things that @cnosil kindly showed me on the Kingsmill trip. But.. on this funky little loop of #14-15-16 which is Par 3 a little uphill, short Par 4 downhill dogleg left, and another Par 3 uphill .. good iron shot to front center of green, next was solid tee shot and good wedge onto left middle of green then another good iron to the front center of the green again. But guess what happened next on each hole? Yep -- 3 x 3 putt bogeys... ..hey whatev that's golf there's always next time! cnosil
@cksurfdude, hope what I told you is helping; I am always worried that I pass along bad info or something that makes you play worse. I think the 4 rounds of golf at Kingsmill helped my golf game. Struggled a little bit initially today with tee shots going right but worked through that and hit 10 FW (all 7 on the back). Popular Post GaryF
Haven’t played a lot the past month due to other family obligations. Played 9 last week and another 9 today with tWife. I’ve been very consistent with the driver the past few years, averaging 81-85% FIRs but earlier this year was having some random struggles after winter conditioning to increase SS (from 95). I don’t have metrics other than quite a few longer drives, but believe I have added SS. The struggles were associated with swing path and pulls. Today had one 273 yd drive (terrain helped) on a par 5. 227 to the pin, I hit a five wood well onto the green but left a 45’ putt. It was going to break quite a bit to the right, so I lined it up left but pushed it. Ended up 8’ to the right and 3 putted fir par . Also, I was fitted for new irons last spring and while mostly happy, have had some issues. As with the old irons, struggling with accuracy and GIRs. I’ve found some keys to improvement that I’ll address in the what have you practiced. Both 9 hole 1/2 rounds mentioned above I shot 42 (par 37) and have solidified some improvements. Over the 18 holes, I’m 14/14 FIRs. And good distance. Today I had 6/9 GIRs and missed one long on a ‘in my face’ gusty hole. Putting was a bit off, and missed five 8-12’ birdie tries. Overall, very happy with my progress. It was in the 90s today. Popular Post rkj427
Played my first round since the Kingsmill trip today, although I had a few things working for me prior to the round, which made my shots and scoring better than what I saw at times at Kingsmill. Spent the last couple days working as a volunteer at the Selfridge Air Base Air show, so not 100% recharged and ready to go, and that may have assisted in slowing down tempo back to normal. Also spent an hour or so at the range this morning before golf, just hitting pitching wedge and 7 iron to make sure I was slow and making center face contact. Played 18 walking with my Motocaddy behind a bunch of people for the first 3 holes before it opened up a bit, and I played the back tees just to keep moving and pace of play somewhat reasonable. Shot 41 / 41 and only 1 3 putt green, as I put my usual putter back in the bag, and removed the one I took to VA. Hit 9 of 14 fairways, using a variety of clubs off the tee, and 13 of 18 GIR's, so it appeared that the practice beforehand had some benefits today. Hoping to get a couple rounds in this upcoming week, as the next weekend is a no go for golf due to prior obligations. Julius
I played on Saturday with my regular playing partner, who is a HCP 24 and a friend who is about 15. I am a 21 as of now. I shot a 99 but had 3 three putts, a 4 putt on the par 5 18 after being GIR, and then had 3 penalties as well (so easily can find 7 shots just there that would drop my score reasonably). Now, the best part of the outing was my regular partner who has a HCP of 24 shot a 3 over 38 on the front!!! IT was totally insane, he was 6 pars and 3 bogeys on the front 9. He was totally giddy, the 9 of a lifetime for him. The HCP took hold on the second 9 however, when he was 20 shots higher than the front - so a 58 total - to finish with a 96. But he was walking on air all weekend and I was and am super happy for him, given the amount of effort he puts into training, etc, during the week and off season. At the same time, it showed all 3 of us that golf is also significantly a mental game, where you need to be focused for 4 hours. It also demonstrated that while you might have a specific hole or even a few holes that go well, you will play to your HCP eventually and revert to the mean. So overall was great fun! Marty2Shanks
Played Sly Fox in Front Royal VA, back tees. Not my normal course. Shot 41 on front. Started back strong then ran into the par-3s, triple bogey on both. These are "hit the green or you are hosed" par-3s, and I didn't hit the green. First par-3 played 180 and second played 170, but both are significantly downhill so club selection gets tricky in the wind, especially the second par-3. Needless to say, lost balls on both and difficult pitch shots to get back onto the extremely sloped greens. Ended with an 89 total. Moved the handicap up about a half point. ChuckM4rsh
New to the game, this is officially my 2nd year "actually" golfing (I was an occasional golfer throughout my teens and early 20s) . I am obsessed. No handicap yet, but I have good and bad days ranging from 105-125. My NYE resolution is to break 100 this year. I recently had an opportunity to travel to western Ireland for work, and made an effort to sneak off one afternoon for a round at Westport Golf Club. Absolutely stunning course. I used rentals (which were technically a members set of lefty Ping G5s), so I wasn't expecting a great performance. However, considering the difficulty and not knowing the course at all, I surprised myself. Shot 103 (par 73). Hole 15 is their "iconic selfie hole", as the starter told me. 564 tee shot over a body of water with a view of the Croagh Patrick in the backdrop. Made the tee shot over the water onto the fairway, chunked my second shot, ripped a 4hy to about 140 from green, slung an 8iron to the back fringe and then 3 putted... Incredible experience that I won't forget, and made me excited to explore more courses as I continue my journey to break 100. Cheers to the MGS community! jazz15c
How did I play? There really aren't enough words...! Round 1 of Club Championships (par 73, playing off 8), I shot what can only be described as an 'error-strewn' gross 93...and 'gross' is very apt! 3 x Triple bogey's. 2 x lost balls. Numerous tops/chunks...a fun time was had. My playing partner also had a shocker; we decided the only course of action was to give each other a hug on the 10th green. jared52
The family went out on Saturday for a family match play scramble. I let my 13yo son pick teams and he chose to play with his sister (18yo, played maybe 3 times) since she gets to hit from the fun tees (think nothing longer than 220 and in the fairway somewhere). The wife started from the fun tees (she's played maybe 10 times) but after we got up 2 holes, she moved back to the reds (our most forward actual tee). We went into 9 1UP and won 2UP. I don't let my kids win anything. They have to beat me. Sunday I had a lond overdue lesson with our pro as I have been playing well but I have really struggled with my fade getting away from me. We worked on getting my hands in line with my biceps and moving closer to the ball so my hands hang under my chest. This felt like a MASSIVE change (I'm a little sore today) but made my divot pattern so much straighter. I always try to make a line on our range (no one else does so it's a pothole mess) but I got done with about 25 shots and there was a nice, even straight line right at my target (can't say my ball consistently went their yet, next phase is getting the club face more consistently square). It really was needed, but it didn't help. The worst part is that I have to go back for Round 2 next Saturday! Love this game. great post, a story shared by many golfers in tournament golf for sure jazz15c 1 Quote committed to performance excellence
