HighFade
So, good news first. Had my best round of the season, shooting 74 from the tips to take 2nd place at the Golf Channel AmTour event. Stupid ruling cost me 2 strokes and the win. But I had a short game lesson the week prior, and it paid off. I sprayed the ball a lot, but I was getting up and down from everywhere. For the bad news, my arm starting hurting on 18 tee, and it just got worse from there. A few days and doctor’s office visits later, I found out I herniated two discs in my neck. So, my season is over. At least I went out on top (or close to the top). I’ll be back next year! Rickp, MattF, cksurfdude and 4 others 5 2 Quote There is no spoon. CarlH
Day two of the tournament and it was a nightmare. Nothing seems to be going right with my swing, chipping, or putting ------ After starting with 3 double bogeys on the first 5 holes, I yanked a drive into a conifer tree on #8 par 5 -- unplayable lie, 2 clublengths barely gave me enough of a swing to get back into play. From the rough, I toed my hybrid sending the ball careening into yet another zero clearance tree for another unplayable lie. Again, 2 clublengths from the ball barely clears the rear of the tree and I have to chip out sideways, leaving myself hitting 7 from 108 yards. But wait, there's more! A bit more wind than I expected and the AW shot lands in the greenside bunker which was soaking wet mud. I manage to get it out but not on the green. I putt from the 2nd cut to a close pin and it lips out. Tap in 10! Went on to close the front side with a smooth 50!!!! OMG! There's a hole in my foot where I shot myself. Manage to pull myself together on the back 9 and shoot 39 for a closing 89. I think if I shoot a 59 tomorrow, I have a shot at winning this thing (NOT!) Popular Post chisag
... What a great day play golf! Low 80's with mild humidity and 5-7mph winds that even stopped occasionally. Crazy weird round where I was hitting the ball extremely well but just didn't score. Hit into a bunker 290 away I normally can't reach. Hit thru the fairway twice into deep rough. There is only ONE tree on this links style course and I somehow managed to hit it with my 2 iron and it bounced 20 yards straight back at me. And of course burned the edges all day. Shot 1 under with 17 pars, and that included quite a few up and downs. Really rare to have my swing working so well, hitting the ball so solidly and just not scoring on a course I know well. ... That said, Mrs Chisag had her best ball striking day ever. Just killing it off the tee, hitting it long and straight. She has a tendency to try and lift her irons and today she kept that to a minimum hitting some really nice iron shots. Alas, she too did not score anywhere near her ball striking and carded a 94. Several chips from deep rough and a few bunker shots added at least 5 strokes to her score so she easily could have shot in the 80's the way she was hitting the ball. ... So absolutely zero complaints as I got to see some beautiful shots, was out driven twice and really enjoyed the day. We both should have scored better but as Sheryl Crow sang so poignantly: "No one said it would be easy But no one said it'd be this hard No one said it would be easy No one thought we'd come this far" Kenny B, cnosil, MattF and 7 others 9 1 Quote Driver: Qi10 10.5* ... I couldn't get dialed in off the tee and approach shots were going everywhere, but I managed to limit my bad holes to only bogeys. I was kinda funked out about my play, but my wife reminded me that my worst rounds are better than her best rounds. perseveringgolfer
Raining here...all day.......played round 1 of a 36 hole comp but won't be going back out for another 18 in constant rain and flooded greens, putting was just luck in hitting hard thru puddles, there was no relief possible on most without going off the green. On a positive I played quite well, lost 2 balls but still shot 75 so I'm happy with how I played in really tough conditions. Used the Callaway chrome soft truvis for the first time ever, quite liked it, was weird to 'see' the spin you get around the greens due to the markings on the ball. edingc
- 39/41 = 80 (+8) - 3/15 FIR - 6/18 GIR (2 birdies) - 33 Putts (2 3-putts, 11 2-putts, 5 1-putts) - 2:45 Round Time Set a new personal best this morning and was oh so close to breaking 80. Stan Utley is awesome. Picked up his book last week, spent a few days working on his chipping technique and am loving the results. Very easy, stress free putting day for me because of how close I was leaving my chips and approaches. I could not get the driver going on the back nine, which really hurt my chances of breaking 80. Although I only hit three fairways today, my misses on the front were a lot better than on the back, and my distance was too. Not a lot of scoring chances on the back at all, really was fighting to save par or bogey most holes. I did have several putts come up just short or burn an edge. Those are going to start dropping soon, I know it. perseveringgolfer, MattF, THEZIPR23 and 4 others 7 Quote Unofficial WHS Handicap: 3.6 / Anti-Cap: 9.9 (Last Updated Sept. 1, 2024) Driver: Callaway Paradym TD (10.5°), 45.75", Fujikura Motore X F1 6X | Fitting Post 3 Wood: Cobra RadSpeed Big Tour (14.5°), 43", Fujikura Motore X F1 7X 20° Hybrid: PXG 0211 (2020 Model), 40.25", Mitsubishi Tensei AV RAW White 90X 4 Utility: Cobra KING Utility (2020 Model), 38.5", Aerotech SteelFiber i110cw Stiff 5-PW: Ben Hogan PTx Pro, 37" 7 Iron, Aerotech SteelFiber i125cw Stiff | Club Champion Fitting 50°, 54°, 58°: Edel SMS, V Grind, Nippon Modus 125 Wedge| Official Review Thread Putter: L.A.B. CarlH
Final day of the club championship and I came in with a disappointing 3 days. Shot a total of +7 over my handicap. For the most part, I hit my irons solid and my putting was on par with my normal game. Driving was an issue as I've developed a really nasty over the top swing that I can't seem to get rid of (that will be my next goal for practice as I have several good training drills to do). On the plus side, I have an outside chance for a skin on one of my stroke holes. It may or may not be good for a gross skin, but it has a better than average chance for a net skin. $20/day buy in and yesterday's skins paid $330 each (only 2 paid out). Kenny B
I broke my rule. I live in the desert with 7 inches of rain a year, so my rule is never go out to play in the rain. I can always wait until it stops. Well, we had a T-Storm at 2am last night and it was still raining at our 7:30am tee time. My wife and I got there at 7am and the couple we were to play with weren't there. I was hoping they wouldn't show up, so we could maybe play later. Then here they came and wanted to play, and I didn't want to be a wuss!! In addition to the storm, the course was irrigated all night so it would be Cart Path Only, but we don't have cart paths except from just in front go the greens to the next tees. Very soggy! They should have not let out carts until afternoon. I should not have played until afternoon!!! A triple, two doubles, and a bunch of bogeys for a smooth 91. I have GOT to stick to my rules!! I believe this is the first time in 50 years that I was cold enough to wear a jacket in the month of August. tony@CIC, sirchunksalot, MattF and 3 others 5 1 Quote “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

russtopherb
On the good side, I got to play golf with @Wedgie & @GolfSpy Stroker today for the first time, and both spies were incredible to play with. They both hit some amazing shots, the banter was great and they're both swell guys. On the bad side... well, let's just say my net was 86 and leave it at that. I had too many penalties today, the sand was not my friend, and I chunked 3 chips in a row on the way to a 10 on a par 5. My game wasn't there, but I was glad to be out on the course with those two. Golfspy_CG2
Pretty poorly....98 Maiden voyage round with the 919 Forged was disappointing. Not really due to the irons. I played a course I hadn't played in quite a while and some of the forced carries off the tee were a bit much for me, so I didn't hit a lot of irons. Ended up with a lot of hybrids and FW for the 2nd shot. In hindsight I should have been up a tee box. Also I didn't have my normal putter so putting was less than stellar. A lot of excuses. I hope you do it quicker than I did. I think I shot 80 like 20+ times before I finally eclipsed it. Plain and simple just didn't hit it well. I'm still jealous of them! Jmikecpa
Tale of two different rounds for me this weekend. Hit it really well yesterday and didn’t make a putt and got pretty much any bad break I could have gotten. Had to take an unplayable in the second hole when it hit my ball three paces through the fairway into an old what I guess I can call a divot. Played this morning in the first group off and cruised to an easy 73 off the back tees. Put the Flash SZ back in my bag and just killed it off the tee. Missed on fairway today and that was by design for an angle I to the green. Putting finally came around and loving the new flat stick. Popular Post silver & black
I played fairly well... for me...lol. I shot 39 both sides for a 78. I'll take any score with a 7 in front of it every time! GregB135
Played in my league's two-day event at Bay Hill. Saturday's 92 was pretty solid, but missed a bunch of putts. Sunday's 85 had a few more missed shots, but more putts made, and a season-best 39 on the front 9. Altogether it was enough to wind up winning the B-flight. fozcycle
As my club has been swampy, I Traveled 40 minutes north to Brooksville Country Club yesterday for a groupon fourssome, purchased a couple months ago. The course was dry, which was terrific. Shot a 43/42:85 with 2 birdies. Putting was horrific but palatable. This course has 4 holes on the back that were carved out of a quarry, making this the Disneyland golf of Florida. #11 was named one of the top 10 most fun holes to play in the US a few years back. There are 2 Par 4’s and 2 Par 3’s. The Par 4’s are risk/reward type holes(I birdied the first one!) and the Par 3’s are elevation challenged holes. Lotta fun!
