JerryB
We had two tee times set up for today at River Heights but course conditions dictated walking only so three people bailed, leaving five of us sent off on the back nine. Owen and I were joined by our regular buddy Mark plus Jesse who took up the game last year and David who was playing for the first time ever. A touch chilly to start but it warmed up nicely. Owen and I were the only ones who had gotten out so far and we were all rusty. David mostly just teed off then dropped wherever Owen was. He was frustrated early on but had solid contact with a wedge on sixteen. It sailed into the pond forty yards behind the green, but he was thrilled nonetheless! He was actually pretty good with the putter and dropped a couple of putts from distance. He's hooked. Jesse still has contact issues but but when he gets hold of one he really sends it. His drive on eighteen was a good thirty yards past the rest of us. Last year Mark played a huge hook with his driver before it broke right near the end of the season. He upgraded to a TSi2 this year and hits it straight. Still plays for the hook, though. Owen started slow but came along as the round went on. He might have gotten his hand on those future limited flight balls because all his shots were falling out of the sky. He's getting good at a boomerang stinger and showed it off on a couple shots today. I had two GIRs and three putted both. Four other holes were one putts. I started decent and faded at the end. Almost all my best-feeling shots managed to find tree branches. When I try to kill it, things get ugly but it's hard to keep that feeling under control. Better course management is a big key for me this year. We played just the back nine and called it a day. We didn't keep score but shotscope had me at 49. So, y'know... ugh. Popular Post richk9holes
I brought the same swing I had yesterday to a different longer more difficult 9 hole course today and was able to keep it in play. Same ball all day, what I'd call a clean 9 though some misses right off the tee I scrambled well. One ugly par 3 double but 5 doesn't look so bad on a scorecard. Speaking of cards, didn't carry one today 1st time in 3 years+ they don't have a box at hole 1 and maybe I missed it outside, but my GPS keeps strokes, putts, and FWs so I used that. I played well overall, may ditch the scorecard scribbling in the future, just numbers. I have notes in my mind without poring over a scorecard as is my habit. +7 42 on the 9 is my best ever here. Used new irons 1st time ever so very very happy with it. Putting was good, got nothing to fall but all 2 putts. No misses inside 6 ft. Popular Post Tom the Golf Nut
4 hours ago, chisag said: ... Just a reminder that golf isn't fair. Hit my best drive of the day Thursday into a slight wind leaving 185 on the difficult 438yd finishing hole. Pin left middle with a bunker guarding the front left. Fairways and greens are really firm so I hit a 5 iron as well as I can hit it with a soft draw landing on the fringe and should have tracked right to the hole. Two of my best shots ... but I hit a sprinkler head and it bounced crazy high and hard left just missing the lake and bounding 15yds over the green. Left with an almost impossible chip over one mound, a dip and then a rise to the green and then sloping away I hit a bump and run landing just over the mound and rolling up over the rise and trickled to a few inches. So at least the Golf Gods didn't get the last laugh. But that sprinkler head bounce was hard to stomach ... I had a similar situation last week. Hit my drive to the center of the dog leg. 200 yards left into the green. Hit a perfect 5 wood up the left side of the fairway knowing that it would slightly fade into the green. It was going perfectly to plan, hit and roll toward the flag (so I thought) it hit about 3 yards short and found the sprinkler head. It bounced high and over the green and was about a foot short of OB. But a solid chip and 1 putt saved par for the hole. I was glad I made par but at the same time disappointed that what looked like a great birdie opportunity was gone in a bounce of the ball. Par 70 5400yrds Shot +5 though 18 got a couple birdies including a chip in which made me feel ecstatic so early in the season. Popular Post Invader Zim 315
Went to my parents for Easter and got an amazing round in walking with my Dad. Nothing better than having the chance to play with him. I know they aren’t highly ranked by MGS, but as a walking minimalist, I picked up a Stitch SL2 with his club logo on it. I love that I get to represent the course I grew up playing. And a smooth 78 was nice too. Happy Easter to those who celebrate! Popular Post DiscipleofPenick
The season has resumed, with a cool but dry start, which is great for April in Ohio. I've played two rounds - shot a season opener 82 on April 2, and then on Friday followed it up with an 81. The first round not much to say, a bunch of pars and only two really bad holes where I had lots of tree trouble and attempted shots I wasn't committed to. I was hitting a low hook with everything all day. Next round I straightened it out as I figured I wasn't extending through impact, that got rid of the hooks, and I had two birdies. Though it felt like I had a few more opportunities I let slip. All in all it's just good to be out there again. MrBandit
This practice thing is really paying off , the bunker practice from last week still going strong.. need to continue to get more confident with my bunker execution. Saturday I play tournament at Robson Ranch, slow start on the front, just wasn't comfortable with my putter and a few sloppy bogeys and a ridiculous double that shouldn't have, for a 42. But then on the back start ok, then started to really put it together to with a couple of birdies to finished with an even par 36. I thought I had won, put my clubs away ( apparently is a rookie mistake ), last group came in an another guy shot 78. SO , playoff sudden death .. (had to get my gear back ). This was a fun Match play environment, we both bogey the first, par the second hole but on the 3rd.. birdie finally won it. He should had made his he was closer but after I made by 4ft putt for birdie, he took to long to over analyzed that putt and power lip out. Short game is as strong as ever, as its the one thing I practice at least 2-3 times a week. tight lies is my preferred option, too much grass and I struggle. And had the best GIR/FW hit in a round, surprising , my putting was my worse with 36, 4 x 3 putts. Ended up shooting a 99 (Had a knee knocker to break 100 on 18) and walked away happy that I got to play in sunny and 75. Did get to see a ton of deer roaming the fairways though! There was also the issue of the bunkers probably playing as ground under repair with no rakes and plenty of deer residue/footprints (they are going to re-sand them this week). I had 6 sand shots in total that had no shot of getting close to the pin, and 2 of those sand shots resulted in a skulled ball OB. 4 fairways, 2 greens, 35 putts, +29 cksurfdude, MattF, Merlin1313 and 8 others 8 3 Quote Rogue MAX LS 9° (set to +1°) Rogue Max 3W 15° Apex UW 19° p770 w/ Project X 6.5 (4-AW) Jaws Full-Toe Black 54° & 60° Spider GT 35" TP5x

Popular Post DStar
Managed to get out again on Sunday afternoon for a quick knock and ended up playing 1-9, 15-18 as I found a gap. Another pretty good knock . Have been playing with setting on my driver for more accuracy and it seems to be working. 260y 3-w on 1st, chip to 5' & rolled in the birdie. On in 2 on the par 5 - 4th but 3 putted from 40' Got to the 9th which I never seem to drive well but hit 2 crackers, 310y and within about 10' of each other. On to 17 which is a long par 5, hit my best drive ever down there and left myself a 220y hybrid into the green (over a large pond). Hit it perfectly on target but caught the overhead cables which means a free drop and replay the shot. Pulled the replay right and had a horrendous looking chip out of the rough, over a bunker to a pin about 10' on. Came out perfect and left me a 12' putt for birdie which I duly sank! Ended up +3 for 13 holes - 2 birdies, 6 pars, 5 bogeys & 17 putts. How many wins is that now? Feel like you've been racking them up! cksurfdude and sirchunksalot 2 Quote Driver: ST190 9.5* Fujikura Atmos Blue 5S Fairway Wood: ST190 15* Fujikura Atmos Blue 6S Hybrid: CLK 17* Fujikura Speeder EVO HB Irons: J40 CB (3-PW) Dynamic Gold Tour Issue X100 Wedges: Milled Grind 2 54* & 58* Dynamic Gold S200 Putter: Tri-Hot 5k Two 34" Bag: Players 5 Stand Bag Ball: Maxfli Tour

Course handicap for me was a 21 but definitely found myself with a couple blow-up holes. 4 fairways, 2 greens, 35 putts, +29 How was that course? It was on my list to play when I was in the area a few years back, but I never made it that way! cksurfdude, sirchunksalot and Merlin1313 3 Quote Driver: ST190 9.5* Fujikura Atmos Blue 5S Fairway Wood: ST190 15* Fujikura Atmos Blue 6S Hybrid: CLK 17* Fujikura Speeder EVO HB Irons: J40 CB (3-PW) Dynamic Gold Tour Issue X100 Wedges: Milled Grind 2 54* & 58* Dynamic Gold S200 Putter: Tri-Hot 5k Two 34" Bag: Players 5 Stand Bag Ball: Maxfli Tour
