Popular Post Grand Stranded
Not the day I was hoping for today in the final round of our league championship. I was three over through 7 and 125 out in the fairway on #8 when I pushed my second shot into the bunker. Then disaster struck. I caught all ball and it plugged into the face. Took an unplayable, skulled my next one over the green and took 8. I followed that up by trying to go for the green on the par 5 9th in two and didn’t make it over a waste area. We don’t play drop zones, and my 4th shot went long then I 3 putted from the wrong level of the two tiered green. Back to back 8’s and I was done mentally. Limped in with a 90 net 77, and finished 8th in the net. One of these years I’m going to win this thing. Popular Post MaxEntropy
Another decent night in league last night. For the first time in a long time, I had nothing worse than bogey and ended up +5. Driver was decent, but I skied a few for some reason. They were straight so it didn't hurt much. Every drive was straight as a string, which I am not known for, but it only caused a problem once (nestled against a tree requiring a nearly sideways punch shot). Everything else was manageable. I ended up in two bunkers, but it didn't look like the course had done any work in them - they were wet and hard. The other guys in our group offered to let me rake and drop so I have some chance, but I declined and tried to just pick them clean. First one was fat and barely got out, second was skulled over the green. That was two of the bogies. Chipping was pretty lame. I left myself way too far away for any reasonable expectation of making putts. I don't think I was trying to do too much with them as they were all pretty straightforward, just poor execution. For the second straight time, I parred my nemesis hole. I know it's in my head, but it never seems to fail that I either launch a ball into the woods on the right or pull it into the trees on the left with a strong 'anti-right' swing no matter how my driving has been on the other holes. Rarely is there an in-between for me. A good tee shot usually ends up on the upslope and the second shot is blind. It seems to happen every year - just as the season is winding down, my game starts coming into form. Then I can't touch my clubs for a few months and feel like I am starting all over in the spring. According to Arccos, my handicap is down to an 8.9. I don't know if I believe it (I tracked our scramble last weekend but theoretically have it excluded), but the last few weeks have been pretty good. Popular Post CarlH
Not a particularly stellar day today! Shot an 83. Ball just didn't want to find the hole despite putting a good roll on it...burned the edges all day long. Close but no cigar, as they say. Sluggo42
Oh but I should add, I had a few more big drives today, this entire trend the result of a longer backswing- but I cannot transfer this swing to my irons reliably for some reason- I have to to the John Rahm swing for irons- two distinctly different swings- one for irons and one for all woods… strange eh? Grand Stranded
Went out with two of my neighbors today, and on a lark, I took out the DF2.1 and put the White Hot OG Double Wide back in the bag. I think it might stay there for a while. I’m putting well with the LAB, but I still feel like there’s an issue making sure it’s soled properly. I’ve said this from the day my putter came, and nothing has changed. I’m convinced the lie angle I was fit to was wrong. I can manipulate it to where it should be, but… why bother? I own another putter that works very well. With the OG my setup is simple. I just set it down, look at the line and go. As we take a practice swing, thinking about the shot before addressing the ball, it’s not always apparent. Then when addressing the ball is sometimes the first time one notices the shadow. When that happens, step back, recollect your focus then readdress. The range is between #9 and #10 and the only way they could get there is if a golfer hits a 50-yard pull hook off the tees. Popular Post GolfSpy TCB
I was able to get out for a quick yesterday after work... Didn't have the best ball striking day... but still managed to shoot +2 (38). My most memorable hole was a pull hook off the tee into the trees that ended up next to the perimeter fencing... had to punch out by setting my club at about 1/2 a back swing - outside my normal path due to the fence. So no backswing, just started from a set position, and threaded the needle between two trees into the middle of the fairway with 120 left. Hit a 3/4 flighted 9 iron to six feet and rolled in the putt for par. Hope to get back out this evening for another 9 :). Mine was near the upper end of that trough and mine too was slowed to cause a three putt. FYI you were allowed free relief from "casual" (temporary) water, as per Rule 16 ... Abnormal Course Conditions (Including Immovable Obstructions) Ball in Temporary Water in General Area Q.My ball is in a fairway in a puddle of water (temporary water) – what are my options? A.Your ball is in what the Rules call “temporary water.” You may play your ball as it lies or take free relief. You take free relief by finding the nearest point of complete relief where you are clear of the puddle and then drop your original ball or another ball away from the puddle and within one club-length of that point not nearer the hole (see Rule 16.1b). You may also take relief from a puddle of water if your ball is in a bunker or on the putting green (see Rule 16.1c for the bunker or Rule 16.1d for the putting green), but you do not get relief from a puddle inside a penalty area.
