1st time installing new shafts

Recommended Posts

I've been for a club fitting assessment and have been recommended tapered Project X IO 5.5 shafts ½ inch longer than standard.  They also recommended new clubs but I want to keep my ping G410's rather than spend money on new heads.  So I'm going to change the shafts myself, I've found some shafts online but they're standard length and the slightly stiffer 6.0 rather than 5.5.  I have seen that putting, say, 4 iron shaft in a 5 iron head makes it slightly softer.  So my question is, as a 4 iron shaft is ½ longer than a 5 iron one, if I put a Project X IO 6 in my 5 iron head will it play like a Project X IO 5.5?

I hope this makes some sense and I've explained it clearly, total newbie here!

Probably only 1/3 of a flex different so maybe play more like a 5.7 (if they actually made one) The weight is the bigger difference. The IO 5.5 is some 5 or 6 grams lighter I recall than the 6.0.

When buying used or online double and triple check the lengths as I have found this to be some of the trickiest parts of buying shafts used.

Great advice, thank you.

Great shaft btw - it's easily been one of my favorites.
