Your Brand Opinion: Cobra Golf

Recommended Posts

Cobra is one of my favorite brands.  Although, I wish they would remake the AMP Cell Pro irons.  In my opinion they were the best modern “players” irons made, you could include the Fly Z Pro’s too.  They are quite bold, yet not loud or obnoxious like some of the brands.  I also think they could benefit from having a “Bob Vokey” type wedge guru on staff, I like their wedges, but they could be a lot better.

I have played some fairways and hybrids from Cobra and have been pleased with look, adjustability and performance. When I got in a funk and couldn’t hit my 3 wood. I picked up an older 2H and used that for a while. Have never played irons or drivers

I'm probably a bit biased, but I think Cobra as a brand doesn't get the love it deserves from the general golf community.

They make great drivers and fairways, their hybrids are awesome, and their irons are wonderful.

I do agree with @Shanksterthat they could use a wedge specialist to improve on the performance and versatility. I'm still using the SnakeBite's and will probably be looking to upgrade next year.

I like what they're doing with their putters, but with my limited experience with them I just can't see having one in my bag.

I love Cobra from an engineering standpoint and respect how they're not afraid to experiment to improve their product.

The only 2 Cobra clubs I have owned I still have. I have a Trusty Rusty 56* I picked off the scrap pile years ago. I like the looks of it just has too much off set for me. The other one is a little 29* Hybrid with a Senior Shaft. I picked it up like a year ago in a used club shop for like $5. I figured it may be the club for the future for me. I have played it some and hit it well but I still hit my old blade 5 iron well. But it is put back for the future.

I liked the old blade irons back in the Norman days which are known in collector circles as "Mac Cobras". Now a guy I know has a set of the black RF ones which he plays and cannot hit worth a flip, but he likes them. When he decides to get rid of them, I have first dibs because they are exactly like my VIP blades. I will have to change shafts on those.

One of our lowest handicap players in our league (single digit) plays some kind of Cobra CBs and a couple of other guys have gone all Cobra since.

As far as MHO I think they make quality equipment from my limited experience. As SOP for me I would have to hit them on the range to determine if they are for me

I have two of their drivers and love them, I also have had their irons in the past. I wish they were teamed up with Bryson still because Rickie has really faded away. I would love to try the new Dark driver and I actually have a set of those irons in my shopping cart right now, just have not pulled the trigger yet.

I have F9 fairways. (Free from an outing prize, but I got to pick the configuration. ) When I got fitted for irons back in April, I told the fitter he had a shot at any of the clubs in the bag, if he could make a good case. After just a couple of swings he said, "Keep 'em". I can't use their drivers, they're too low spin for me, but I like the way they look. I also like the way the irons generally look, but they were the second ones out when I got fitted. (I don't remember what the disqualifier was.)

I still have the F7 3 wood and 7 wood. While I am playing the GT2 in both now, the 3 woods are near identical and just so good. Fantastic clubs from a long while ago.

I was pretty indifferent towards cobra for years.  I tried a couple of their drivers that my buddies had, and they were nice, but not enough to get me to change.

I went to get fitted for new irons a couple years back now, and just had the fitter hand my clubs without telling me what I was hitting.  I expected to end up with Callaway, srixon, Titleist, but ended up going home with cobra forgedtecs.  I've dropped a couple strokes on my hdc since, and I've had a few buddies try them and be very surprised by how much they like them.  My only complaint is I wish I had bought them in copper.

Cobra is now probably my favorite brand.  I haven't tried the newer putters (MGS has me set on a L.A.B). I was hoping to demo this years drivers, the colors and special editions were awesome, but I ended up winning a Qi10 so it'll have to wait a few years again.  I'm already contemplating getting fit again with the hopes the new cobras would go in the bag. (king black series look so good)

I’ve always liked Cobra and have tried the brand during fittings with decent results although they’ve never quite made it into my bag. Feel and aesthetics were always good but they just got beat out in the end.

My wife has almost a full bag of Cobra and absolutely loves them. She is a beginner golfer and hits everything from driver to irons pretty well since picking them up; very confidence inspiring for her.

I play the Cobra Forged Tec irons and love them. They are really nice to play and feel fantastic when you hit them sweet. They’ve definitely improved my game.
I also have the LTDx 3 wood and am impressed with that too. Really straight flight and easy to hit.
They definitely get overlooked as a brand

I don't have much to say on cobra. I had a set of one length for all of a week or two that weren't fitted to me and it showed. Wish I would have had specs changed to really try them.

Like many others on this forum my golf journey has lead me through a variety of club manufacturers.  From Hogan, Tommy Armor, Ping, PXG, etc. to Cobra.  About a year ago I was looking for a "fix" for how I was playing and went to the PGA Tour Superstore and hit just about every used iron in the place.  Finally, I asked to hit the Cobra Aerojet irons.  Didn't really like the fat look, but what the heck let's giver a go.  Holy crap.  The ball straightened out.  My usual low flight got some height.  And the feel was similar to my old Eye2+ irons.  I was shocked.  Then tried the one-length.  Wow!

Fast forward a few months,  the PXGs are gone (with the exception of the 2 & 5 woods that weasel their way in and out of my bag) and I picked up a set of LTDx one-length irons (couldn't afford the new Aerojets).  I am way more consistent.  Then I picked up an F8 driver...excellent as well.  Found Aerojet hybrids for cheap (>$100 each) 2,3,4,5 and now carry a full set of Cobras.  With the exception of my Bettinardi putter (and at times the aforementioned PXG woods) I am full Cobra.

That said, I believe Cobra is way underrated.  I think that they should be mentioned along with the other brands more often.  I have never been sure why some brands are more popular than others, but I am sure that Cobra deserves a look from players of all levels.  I play to a 5 handicap and cannot see the Cobras leaving my bag for quite awhile.

I’ve had the Aerojet Max driver for about a year and a half and have been very please with its performance. I tried out a few different drivers when I was looking and found the look of tech head at address I be the most pleasing to my eye. I find my centre hits to be quite long at straight, and the off centre hits to be quite forgiving. I don’t think the Max is the longest driver out there, but it has worked well for me.

When I worked in golf, Cobra always earned the little sibling treatment.

Why buy a Mercury when you can buy a Ford?

Personally, I believe they fly under the radar with some killer irons.

The Cobra LTDx line of drivers changed my game for the better. I won this driver at a golf bash and it is hands down my favorite driver i've ever gamed. I have not wanted to replace this driver for any reason and I fear for my game the day it breaks. I also currently have a cobra fairway wood in the bag, which I like because of the big profile by the ball (compare to SIM2 which looks like it is barely bigger than the ball). To be fair I've never experimented with Cobra irons outside of a club fitting I did at Club Champion so I can't speak to the irons, wedges or putters but I will say based on just being a club junkie that I've placed the 3D printed irons in my cart on Cobra's website several times just cannot pull the trigger on something i've not tested for that $$.

I think Cobra gets overlooked a lot, esp with a big player like Bryson either not signing an extension with them or not wanting to sign an extension with them or their other players like Rickie not playing well and winning tournaments.

I had a wedge from them a while back, but each time I get fit I seem to find something else better.  But their stock shafts and price point are great.  Really wanted to love the Aerojet driver but it didn’t work out.

I love really love the look of their irons a lot.  Hope to try them again soon.

IMO, Cobra is very underrated, and does not get the attention it deserves.   Over the years, I have played lots of models from the F-Speeds to AMP Cell and now the King Tours irons and Darkspeed woods. After having tried multiple 3 woods, the Darkspeed LS has firmly kicked my 10 year old Tour Edge out of my bag.  Over the years, Cobra has done a great job of transitioning their image from the “fun” golf company to serious innovators. Especially with what they are doing with 3D printing.

I am my opinion. I believe Cobra makes quality products, I unfortunately have never got a chance to swing any Cobra clubs.  I believe they fit in right behind Titleist, Taylormade, and Callaway.
Being left-handed I’ve yet to meet a friend that swings Cobra clubs to enable me to try it out!

I went through a driver fitting in ‘22 and was handed a LTDx LS with the Hzrdus Smoke IM10 shaft to hit a few balls. I didn't request to test it but went into the fitting with an open mind.

I also tested the Ping G425, TM Stealth, and the TSi2 and TSi3.

I was surprised when looking at the TrackMan numbers and was guided by the fitter to either the TSi3 or the LTDx LS. I ended up going with the Cobra and have not been disappointed.

When my swing is on and I’m hitting near the center of the club face, it works quite well for me. I do find that the distance fall-off for off-center hits is a bit more than desirable but that is more on me than the club.

I will probably test other drivers next year but won't feel compelled to replace it unless I find one that seems more performant with off-center hits.

It would take a lot for me to ever even try Cobra. I just don't view it as a legit company. It goes way back to trying one of their drivers 30 years ago, to them teaming with pros I really don't relate to. I can't imagine Hogan playing the brand. Like Taylor made there's just too much crud to weed through to even start.

Currently I don't have a Cobra club in my bag but I am really looking forward to the new releases for 2025.  They tend to push the envelope with new manufacturing and technology.  My first Cobra clubs go back a long way-back to when Mr Crow was the owner.  The irons were great as were the Trusty Rusty wedges-the milled putter that the Boss of the Moss used too.  The Cobra driver that Tiger used- a lot of really cool products over the years.  Of course we had Greg Norman back then too when some really special forged blades.

Today we have the 3D printing and a variety of other exciting products.  Have a great day, and thanks for rekindling some memories.

I switched from T100s irons to Cobra King Tours and they are far and away a better iron. Better feel, better sound and more forgiving. It wasn’t really close and it’s a shame more people aren’t looking at the King Tours when shopping irons.

I believe a lot of it is that they aren’t readily available at demo days. My clubs has a few demo days a year and cobra isn’t a vendor.
