Hecklers at chambers bay

Recommended Posts

I will add something to my previous post. I watch European golf on TV early on Sunday sometimes when preparing for my sound board duties at church. Is it me? because I have seemed to notice the European and Asian crowds seem to be more polite like it used to be here

AMEN! I now find myself preferring to watch overseas tournaments because of the obnoxious American crowds. I REALLY want the PGA to crack down on these idiots. It's a HUGE turnoff to me.

T - got huge respect for you, but you will not hear this nonsense at a European event. Mind you listen to what we say to our soccer players and you'd blush!   Now, the Ryder cup is different and fr

Maybe if golfers wish to continue to be considered athletes and paid like athletes, they should maybe be subject to the same conditions as other athletes.   Don't get me wrong...I'm not a huge fan o

They tried like heck to make it as close to an Open Championship as possible with the course, conditions, and how people can spectate. Unfortunately they still had to use Americans for the actual spec

I also watch European golf on Sunday morning, but I do it from bed with a cup of coffee with Baileys.   :)   Hey! It's 6am!!!

I agree that European/Middle East/South African fans are more polite, but I would have to say that the Asian venues (particularly China) can be a little distracting to the pros.  Lots of cell phones and loud talking while setting up for a shot.  I guess golf is such a new market for them that the crowds haven't developed the traditions associated with golf etiquette.  Of course, a lot of people here in the States play golf that don't know golf etiquette either!

I am up early every morning anyhow and our first service begins at 0745 and I like to come in early and get everything set up for all 3 services. When you see me on here early Sunday morning I am running the sound check and typing on my laptop and I will be having a cup of coffee no Bailey's though

None of this is new here. I remember when Greg Norman called a fan out at the first US Open at Shinnecock in the Early 80's. He swore he'd never come back to the metro NYC area. But there he was again choking it away the next time it was held in NY.

I would not heckle a player but I do think the guys on tour need to develope thicker skin. I have all sorts of stuff going on when I preach. It wasn't like that 25 years ago, it is now. We could ban all movement and sound from the sanctuary and frankly that would make some people happy. But guess what? No one would come.

I fear that may be where golf is heading if it doesn't learn to adapt. Commercials with some of the more popular players might be helpful particularly if they could be played on the digital on course score boards periodically during the day.

I can remember when they heckled Sergio in the Ryder Cup you know those guys yelling "come on Sergio hit the bowl" I think he flipped them off. If I had his game I would have walked over there and told them you guys wanna play me for a couple of Gs after this round ends? if not shut the heck up!!

Monty got heckled everytime he came to the States!  His attitude only made it worse.  I enjoyed watching him whine about the crowds, and didn't feel sorry for him a bit.  I actually like him now that he is playing the Champions tour.  It seems that he has embraced America and the crowds have warmed up to him... and look, he's winning!

Attitude is everything when playing in front of crowds in any sport.

My take; I think for the most part they are "very" casual golf fans at best and are there more for the party than anything else. Be happy for a good shot but the rest of the noise please save it for another sporting event where it is encouraged.

If you'd like to take it one step further, it is a slice of society at large today. I'm 59 and soon to be 60, the sense of entitlement for many is incredible and escalating downhill with reckless courage.

I think that the guys doing it are probably the young punk at all of our local clubs, you know the ones who are very good, but not great, they are, and have always been the life of the party. It's the generation of kids that have grown up with no responsibilities, and frankly don't care about anything, the go to the tournaments, not to enjoy the time there, they go because they can, and they drink, and drink, they all go as a pack so no one will bother them, they feel like they can do whatever they want because, well, they can. I believe this is a respect issue, they don't respect the game of golf, and they don't respect any authority, and they don't have any respect for themselves. There are many people who act like idiots in this world, and no matter the traditions that golf has, it cannot escape the few people who act like that, and it gets old, they need to grow up a bit.
