Agree. But I videoed his swing and he is steep in transition. He over swings and sways. And at impact his hands are slightly behind the ball in a slight scoop position. But he hits the center of the face every time. Plays a slight slice /cut and shoots par after par. His driver distance is 250 down the middle shot after shot. Irons are middle green all day.

he is just blessed with great hand eye coordination. Where guys like us have to take lessons . And we have more conventional looking motions. Really is an amazing game really

The body does what it has to do to accomplish the mission which is to hit the ball.  He takes it farther that his intent is to also hit the center of the club face.   Consistent path, consistent face angle, and consistent impact location. result in consistent shots.

That is someone who has grooved a swing and can time it up the compensations well. Sounds like he also has good course/game management skills.

Hitting the center of the face but he’s not compressing the ball and is actually giving up yards from it.

 

A good looking or good golf swing doesn’t mean a person will play good golf and a bad swing doesn’t mean one will only play bad golf.

Golf is about getting the ball in the hole with the least amount of strokes.

I used to bomb it past all the guys I played with when I started but they would beat me in score because they made less mistakes tee to green even with less than conventional swings

That does look good! And smart move, too! Here's a random thought on the cups - chalk circles. Get some of that large chalk kids use on sidewalks; after a few days/weeks it fades and you draw new "cups" in other spots..?

Or maybe something like a cut-down driveway marker that you can set upright into the mat for a "flagstick"..?

Correct as I have said many times before there is no one etched in stone way to properly swing or play this game. The swing gurus don't want to hear it but it is the truth. Growing up with my old man running a course and being around the game all my life I have seen some swings. To add to your great example look back at Allen Doyle and Jim Thorpe. Both unconventional but they got results

You could always do the old putting practice of roll the ball into a glass or use hockey pucks or some kind of wooden disk (and put a flag on it for flag-in practice ), even a white felt circle or ring would be a suitable target affecting ball roll minimally.

to the second part the length causes our swing faults to become more prevalent. Harder to hit a 5i than a 7i for that reason. 
 

Everyone has a point on the bag where this happens. Some it starts at the 5i others at 4i others 6i

Lately with me it is just the opposite. When I started playing the clubs in my signature that 5 iron is a rocket. Now the 5 iron has always been my bump and run stick and my get out of jail stick. I had gotten where with the steel shafted blades I was not hitting the 5 iron good. But with that being said I still carry the 7&9 woods and will continue to do so. With me it is all about feeling the shot at the time. I had one of my Stableford partners confused yesterday. He asked on a shot if I was going to hit the 5 iron since I hit it so good. I told him naah not now I am hitting the 9 wood since I was feeling it. I do hit the 9 wood a little higher but work the 5 iron better. I usually tell people when they play with me the first time not to club off of me because I am strictly an instinct player.

In all revelation I did make an old fart purchase last week on a great deal. I did buy a Cobra Baffler 29* hybrid with a senior flex shaft. I have messed with it some but can not see it supplementing my 9 wood or 6 iron any time soon. Since it was a great deal I bought it and put it back for the future

One of my favorites and I have several. I admired Mr. Palmer for his charisma and the way he dealt with folks. Nicklaus I loved his overall game and I am a Macgregor man too. Trevino and Seve I admired for their non conventional style of play. LOL the 86 Masters was tough for me because I had Nicklaus and Seve going right down to the wire. Which Jack ended up winning

Anybody ever watch cleaning type videos on YouTube just to pass time? I'm talking rug cleaning (from abandoned rugs to ones pulled out of flooded homes), car detailing, pressure washing, overgrown yard cleanups. I find them so satisfying yet I often wonder if I'm insane watching them. Each channel has millions of views so I know I'm not the only one, haha.

Those always remind me of the more detestable things I have had to do and sometimes without the benefit of wearing gloves.  Yuck.  Just glad I have a strong constitution and healthy immune system.

There are some that look awful and I steer clear of those, I just like to watch the transformations. It's crazy how something so simple can change the appearance of a home. A lot of the yard work and pressure washing I watch is guy who knock on random people's doors and helps them out for free.

Funny enough, I kept seeing this pressure washing simulator game pop up here and there and thought to myself who in the heck actually plays this? Then, one day it was free so I gave it a download, well lo and behold I caught myself pressure washing a car and patio for an hour or so like it was my job.

I like the ideas. I love hearing the sound of the ball dropping in the cup. Maybe those mini flag sticks they stick into practice greens.

That reminds me, a few years before my dad passed I was visiting and he was reminiscing about his time in WWII.  He was an Army Tech Sgt and stationed in the Iran/Iraq area, before that he was at Ft Bliss then stationed in the Boston area. By day he did the supply ordering and accounting for a light vehicle repair facility, and by night he traveled and played on a fast pitch softball team as an outfielder and lead off batter. When the European part ended, he was shipped home to await orders to go to the pacific.  Then the war ended and he was given his discharge before being redeployed.  

When visiting one time, he mention he never received his service medals.  He downplayed it, said it was ok but still, I could tell it meant something to him.  I wrote to the Army, and they quickly sent me the medals.  I made up a shadow box and took it to him on my next trip.  The only time in my life I ever saw him cry. He set them out in their living room for all to see until he passed.

IMHO if that is what you like doing then good for you. I see nothing wrong with it

It only makes up a small percentage of what I watch to pass time at work, but something about it is calming to me. Most of the time I'm watching golf videos and old golf classics.

I was riding my bike back from the rec center yesterday and took a new route through the development.  I went down "Divet Lane" and immediately had a panic attack that I had misspelled my forum moniker .  Not according to this.  What a relief .

Bowling is a sport here in Michigan which also allows students opportunities for fun but also potential scholarships into colleges.

Seems to be getting more popular with younger people today than in years past too.

I've looked through the thread trying to get skookum on what this particular discussion is about without success.  But, being that this is the "random" thread, sounds good to me  .

Random thought for my fellow big handed golfers. 

A combination of hand size and arthritis have led me to embrace oversized or jumbo grips. Since I have gotten used to them, anytime I swing a club with a standard grip it feels like I'm strangling a pencil. 

Wouldn't it be nice if demo clubs or club fittings came with different grip options? My wallet and my wife are probably thankful they don't. There have been a number of clubs I have tried out over the past few years, that I passed on, partly because I couldn't get comfortable while swinging them.
