Just noticed that I "won the day" for the first time ever yesterday! Always been envious of that little part being missing from my profile. May never happen again but glad to have it now, haha

Congrats!

For a lot of the mods it is like cheating because we are either A on the forum posting more often, or like the Cobra and testing threads post those which get a stupid amount of likes and reactions.

Not going to lie that is an area I pay close attention to along with the streaks. It is always nice to see new names and members popping up in those areas. Or at least I enjoy seeing it!

How exactly are the streaks measured? Is that how many days in a row you've been on or actually made a post?

Streaks run on a 24 hour countdown.

When you post a 24 hour countdown starts and if you post again before that 24 hour window closes it will continue. When you have consecutive periods where you post it will create a streak (I think I have it to show after 2 days).

So if you post at 9:00 am today and post at 9:30 am tomorrow there would be no start of a streak. However if you start at 9:00am today and then post again at 9:00pm you would technically have till 9:00pm the next day to post to continue your streak.

It isn't a perfect system, but due to time differences with servers etc this was the best way to make this fun, albeit somewhat useless feature to the forum.

Just as another note, we do not take streaks into consideration for testing etc. It is just a fun side feature we have on the forum.

That is confidential to protect @GolfSpy_APH's streak.   I am guessing there is some kind of time period between posts;  I am on the forum everyday (I know I have a boring life....was even told that by someone investigating me for a security clearance) and pretty much post something everyday but I have had my streak broken multiple times.

Here we go again with the mods gaming the system 😜. Jamie has been on a tear lately beating the clock and keeping the streak alive. I've had some decent ones busted up, guess that's my fault, though.

Just looked at the streak counter and it's Jamie 135 me 29.

I have a habit of posting each morning and each evening. Just have too much to say... actually one thing I am not sure about is if posts in the testers wanted threads count... it is a different platform than the forum itself so that likely doesnt count (I dont think it counts towards your post total either) anyway that is kinda my routine to keep on top of everything and because of that it isn't often I am 8 hours between posts. Add in newsletters and all the other stuff I do each morning I should be expected to not miss a day (maybe until Juneish when the second baby comes).

That being said I am also the guy that has a few snapchat streaks of over 2000 days with friends so maybe I just have a problem.

You'll be still getting on posting pics of the new baby, at least that's the excuse you can use when your wife asks why you're on the phone.

Not instagram (I use the forum account more than my own). Snapchat though a fellow ice maker and I have a streak going 2133 days and counting. We celebrate each year that goes by with a few drinks and share stories with others who are part of this group we have which all have minimum of 1300 day streaks of longer.

Some days my reading comprehension goes out the window. I think this might be one of them.

I think it's great you guys keep up with each other like that.

I just wanna give a shoutout to Cobra for making such simple driver/fairway adapters. Did some club work this evening for a gentleman and the way Cobra has a metal “ferrule” built into the adapter makes everything easier. No need to buy extra pieces while swapping between shafts.

Had my annual review for work on Friday. First time I've ever been at the same company for more than 2.5 years and I'm hitting the four year mark this week. Most negative comment I got on my review was that apparently I'm "too even-tempered" when it comes to dealing with the clients in some of our meetings.

So I guess I'm good at holding in the majority of the angry tirades racing through my head?

Too even tempered?  Not quite sure what they’re telling you unless you’re great at your job and needed to find something negative?

It's mostly that. They have to find things for me to work on but it was mentioned that sometimes my personality comes off dry so they don't want it to be interpreted by the clients as if I don't care whether or not they make the improvements I recommend.

Had a mild argument today with a friend about golf. He came from a struggling, middle class background. Yes… I do feel sorry for him. Whereby I grew up in an influential upbringing and was basically raised on a golf course. He argued with me that middle and lower class families have way more responsibilities that prevent them from letting their children learn golf. And many of those types of families will never be considered the golfing medium. And when local clubs offer underprivileged children the opportunity to learn golf one week each summer. It is them basically giving “hand outs” in good faith acting like they are giving back to the other side of the tracks families. Which he says is a slap in the face to the blue collar crowd. It started getting a little heated. So I told him that medium and lower class families would do their best sticking to football or basketball for their children. As that seems to be a better fit for them. Not sure how else I could’ve sugar coated it. With the price of things today. Golf is really a luxury item. And maybe it is only meant for some types of clientele. Hope i didn’t sound too rude

I played a 9 hole muni that charges $14 to walk the whole month of April. I played it 7 more times in April. Is the condition pristine? No but greens and FWs are well kept.

The local driving range owner lets me hit my own shag balls there for free, along with free buckets for every school team or charity for kids the place is always full with people learning for free. Are the facilities tour level country club like? No but can't beat the price.

Someone who loves the game can work at a club and gain access when employees can play. I worked the bag room and pro shop at a private club in my teens, mostly so I could play every day after the last member was put away. Did I ever finish a round? No, not in the 1 hour or less I got of daylight. But those 4 or 5 holes of golf each day were the perk that made a $7 per hour job tolerable.

Usually when I have the "golf expensive" debate it's with someone who has played the same course as I have, but usually I walked 18 for $20-35 and they paid to ride a cart at peak hours and buy 3 beers from the cart girl. Hmm spent a cool $100 before you even lost the $15 sleeve of balls you brought. Golf isn't expensive, but if someone is complaining about it then they're spending too much on it.

I’m sure there are great deals and programs at many golf facilities so  don’t really have a good take on the financial side, but in terms of time, it does take quite a bit of time for most beginners to develop some rudimentary skills.  This can be very frustrating especially if they can’t get some decent instruction.

That's totally true, and time is money so to speak. I think you're considering the cost of getting good at golf, which I think is a different thing. If you want to get good at golf, you can expect it will be expensive as an endeavor.

Everyone does things with different intent, and those who golf for the exercise or being out in nature fall in a different category than those playing competitively in tourneys, playing for money or to score lower.

I’m really just thinking of kids and my experience with my grandson when he has come to visit.  He just expects to be good immediately and that’s not realistic even when we tell him he’s doing fine.  Actually, he hits the ball decently (now 11).  For disadvantaged kids, their time availability may be even less than for other kids, and very limited access to transportation, equipment, etc.

For some people. That $35 a round isn’t cheap either. Why most kids in medium income households or less do basketball

^ for more news on the dead horse being beaten, read here.

But essentially, basketball is free unless you want to compete in traveling basketball and join indoor leagues and wear the sneakers Anthony Davis does.

Tennis is free unless you want to join a private club or pay for instruction.

Soccer is the cheapest sport in the world, yet people find ways to spend thousands annually on it as a hobby if they buy the merchandise, attend camps, join leagues, etc.

While golf is not free for many, the opportunities for free golfing are more abundant than you make it sound @Goober

$34 was the highest number I used, and is a sizable amount. It is 2 cups of convenience store coffee per day vs. brewing your own for 10 days. It is getting the $5 biggie bag and foregoing the frosty for 2 weeks straight.

$14? Walking rate at a 9 hole? Well that's a pack of cigarettes in some places. Lots of poor people spend 1/2 their income on those, I'll tell you from experience.

Drugs are very expensive last time I price checked, especially if you plan on getting really good at them, but again allocated in budgets universally in our society, across socio-economic levels.

I was born and raised in a blue collar family in a very blue collar town and it still remains that way. While I agree that there are other responsibilities and priorities that middle and lower income families have to deal with it’s not something that prevents them from playing golf. The vast majority of the people I play with both family and friends when I go back home  are all middle class with multiple kids and blue collar jobs. They all find ways to play a mix of 18 hole muni, 9 hole parks dept courses and regular courses, along with relatively new equipment. They may not upgrade yearly or even two years.

What I will say is that his mentality is the issue and not the financial side of things.

Your response of saying they should stick to other sports was imo uncalled for and I’ll leave it at that. Golf is only expensive as one makes it. I played golf on a junior enlisted salary when I started and I was able to afford clubs, membership and also to be able to play at courses that were somewhat expensive, it was the same upon leaving the military and making a salary that was considered low compared to the cost of living for the area im in.

I think you are confusing the cost of playing golf and getting better thru lessons, practice time on the course and also that one has to be somewhat good at golf. This couldn’t be further from the truth. Most of the ones I play with when k go home play for the social aspect of the game and to be on the course with people they enjoy being around.
