I’ve been experimenting. I started out with bamboo for sustainability but found I like tees that have heights marked. I especially love the 1 1/2’s for iron shots off the tee and never see them in bamboo. But like most of you I haven’t bought a tee since I started golf and just pick them up.

These are my tees.  They are awesome.  Always same height.

Which type of tees I use depends on the clubs I’m playing. Hickories are paired with bamboo pegs. My 1960-vintage Hogan irons and persimmon woods get either bamboo or my Broken Tee Society hardwood tees. But when I’m gaming my modern clubs, it’s a combination of martini tees (great for windy conditions!), and the aforementioned Flexhead tees…super bright colors make them easy to retrieve, so I don’t piss off the grumpy fun police types who whine about slow play caused by golfers spending a couple of extra seconds looking for plastic tees, instead of littering every teebox with broken wooden pegs.

... Right there with you, I don't believe in added distance claims for ANY tee. I also don't like the "lean forward for extra yards" Martini recommends because the tees are so bright and I don't want to see them at address. Of course the neon colors make them easy to find on the tee box after hitting a drive.

Used to use Martini tees but consistently broke them.  Use a orange plastic tee about 2 3/4" and it lasted through 2 seasons so far.

Currently using 4 yards more tees and martini tees…I like 4 yards more because it has a stop and sets the ball up with the same height every time.  Have not broken one yet…..

I also use 4 yards more for the same reason - consistent height. I've never broke one, lost more than I'd like. They do sometimes separate at the clear plastic upper from the colored tee.

I use the 4yards more plastic T's. For 2 reasons, first for the step so I consistently get the same height and secondly they last forever. Usually only need to get out a new one of after I hit the T shot, I can't find it or I happen to leave it in the ground and go chasing the ball  😂. I don't buy into the 4 yrds more but I do get more consistent hits. Before I started using them I would get balloon hits or worm burners on a regular basis.

Using plastic (of some sort, resin maybe) tees from Decathlon. I just don't break them (or very rarely), or lose them (they're a bright fluo yellow) and I probably use 3 of them per year while playing almost daily... Being stronger than wooden tees, they also work wonders as pitch mark repair tools... Sure, "plastic" is not biodegradable, but that's not a problem as my tees don't have to degrade on the course, they just get back in my pocket. And on the rare occasions when they fly in a place I don't find them, some other golfer will find them soon and use them again. Better that than a wooden or bamboo thing that will degrade "fast" but that fast still takes months if not years and will not be reusable after a short while... and ends up costing more as you use so many of them, plus may have a dulling impact on mowers' blades.

3 1/4 wood tees, with some kind of stripes on them, helps to tee it up the same height.

I typically lose tees or forget to pick them up because I'm too horrified watching my drive head towards the edge of the earth.    I'm definitely a net loss kind of golfer when it comes to tees.

I'm the guy whose tees a lot of you guys are picking up, and I would like them back if you don't mind. 😎

I use three and one quarter inch bright orange hard plastic tees. I used to tee it high, hit up on the ball and catch the tee and it would go about 20 yards and I kept losing tees until I switched to the bright orange one. Now I tee it a little lower so the tee doesn't come out of the ground as frequently but I rarely break one of these tees and I usually can find it.

In 2004, I bought 1,000 tees on eBay.  They came in 20 bags of 50 each.  Several months ago, I was counting how many I had left, there are still 750 still in the bag.  As a walker, I'm always picking up a tee when I see it just laying there...I just can't help myself.  I go through my bag every 3-4 months to reduce the tee's I've built up.  I'm amazed at how many tees I have!!  I'm pretty confident I'll never have to buy another tee in my life.

Sounds like we need an intervention here.  I know, from my childhood, I always picked up tees that were left on the tee box. I have boxes of tees at home that will never get used….

I use whatever I have found on the tee box or cart - wood, plastic, resin, etc.  Broken ones for anything less than driver and whole ones (or long broken ones) that get the ball to the correct height on the driver face.

I don't think I have ever bought a tee.  In school when I worked at the course I would load up on tees left in the carts, I was the unintentional supplier for our golf team.

I used to be nothing but wood tees. Bought them in bulk as they were cheap. This year I went with a combo pack of these and haven’t looked back. Only went through 3 longer tees and still have the same short tee left. The little reminder on the longer one helps with tee height consistency.

Some “cocktail napkin” data. I bought 450 bamboo tees off Amazon 11/20/21 (3 bags x 150 tees) and I’ve used 300 or 6 a week. Though I try to play 3 rounds/week, I’m averaging 2.2 rounds. So I break almost 3 tees/round - seems like more. At that rate I’ll run out of bamboo tees in April. Already have a bag of 5 Martini tees to try…

I actually use a Martini glass plastic tee that I found on the course a couple years ago. Holds the ball just fine and I haven't broken it or lost oy in two years. Thought of buying some but why, this may last me years.

I leave them all behind…

The grounds crew is always leaving balls they find in little piles on the tee boxes; and I just search for a broken tee on the par threes. If there is no broken one, it only momentarily.

Why take a ball I don’t play and put into action?  I suppose if it was a yellow Orcore Verox or a Yellow Pro V, then I might grab it. But all those seem to be hit far into the junk they’ll never be found.

Every so often the grounds crew picks up all the broken tees on all the tee boxes (not often enough in my mind).  I use broken tees for the par 3's but I always pick up one on the previous hole because more are available.  I use plastic tees for driver, and I hate using a long tee when no broken tees are available on par 3's.
