Are Golfers Finally Starting to Balk At Driver Prices?

Recommended Posts

I was surprised when I put up my Sim 2 max to the paradym. The fitter put me in the exact same shaft (Mitsubishi Tensei Raw AB Blue 65 Stiff) as my Sim 2 Max and I noticed about a 3-5 yard gain about the same dispersion and a few 100rpm less in spin. I went through a couple more shafts and I finally asked if I could try the Ventus Blue 7 S. I topped the first 2 due to my severe inside take away and ultimate casting downswing (thank you 19 years of hockey). I adjusted my swing and saw a drastic improvement in dispersion about 15 yard average distance gain and I got my spin  down around 2200-2400 where before I was 2800-3200. Even on good hits with the Sim 2 Max I noticed a ballooning affect that was all spin. On the paradym it was a peircing ball flight to apex. For me the choice was simple but in regards to this discussion I think shaft is most important and if you can keep a consistent enough swing you can see decent dispersion gains every 2-3 years. In my opinion dispersion with driver is most important to me. Averaging 295-300 carry right now and I’d be willing to give up 10-20 yards for more fairways.

I run market rate pricing through an extensive cost-benefit analysis.  If the play club costs $500 it had better deliver 500 yards of distance or.....no deal.

This checks out in my experience I know people who never pay more than $50 for a club and can't hit it more than 50y

Price and purchase frequency wasn't a biggie to Byron, but it caught Louise's attention.

''I had played poorly in the 1935 U.S. Open,'' Byron says, ''and
my driving was terrible. I'd bought four drivers, which was much
more than I could afford. As a matter of fact, we had so little
money, we were living in the basement of a parsonage. Well, one
evening after dinner Louise was doing her needlepoint, and I
told her I needed to buy another driver. She didn't say anything
for a while, but finally she put her needlepoint down.

"'Byron, we've been married for over a year, and during that
time I haven't bought a new dress or a new pair of shoes. But
you've bought four new drivers, and you're not happy with any of
them. One of two things: Either you don't know what kind of
driver you want or you don't know how to drive.'''

Good hand action comes from good body action.
