Going through some major swing changes at the moment so the golf game is all over the place. we started the year at an 18hcp. same time i realised i wasn't going to get any lower relying on the shamble of a swing i had so i chose to put in work and just shot one of the worst 9's in an 18 hole round of my life. Played Glades GC in Brisbane. went into the round feeling pretty good having hit the sim (trackman) the night before and shooting a respectable 81 at barnbougle. we get to the first tee. short little par 4 only 280m to the front edge. lovely little 7 wood to the middle of the fairway. to then take a gap wedge and dump it in the front bunker. i then decided it'd be a great time to take a further 7 shots to get it on the green as i either left it in the bunker or volleyed it straight over the green. the rest of the day was top city, followed by a beach day as i ended up in a bunker on the first 6 holes. I rounded out that 9 shooting 1 under the courses par for 18. a crisp 71. This formidable show of skill continued onto the back 9 going 10 over in the first 4 holes. We then get to the 14th a dead straight downhill 380m par 4. once again topped my tee shot only going 190m (its very downhill). from there though. its like i had an epiphany i was 185 out from the center of the green - took a 4 iron and proceeded to hit this beautiful 1m draw aimed right at the pin. the ball lands 3 feet right of the pin an releases out another 5m. a miracle, the first shot ive struck well all day. we take a routine par after missing the birdie putt by 2 feet. From then on i was enlightened. id had my spiritual awakening. everything was coming up Milhouse. that pure 1m draw stuck around. i shot 5 over through the last 6 holes. i was back. Golf is a fickle sport, always seems to beat me up and then right as I'm ready to throw in the towel it gives me a loving little forehead kiss that keeps me coming back. (maybe we should go to couples therapy)

Final score for the day - 121 - 21 stableford points
Putts - 39
Sand shots - 15
Penalty shots - 9

After my aforementioned ball testing, today was my first round with the AVX balls.  Of course it was muddy....I hate playing in mud.  However, the alternative is unthinkable.  Started off great -2 after 2 holes.  Then the slide began.  Just couldn't get my distances down.  Off the tee it was unreal.  2nd shots were alternately great and pathetic.  38 on the front....then the curtain was pulled back and the "wizard" was revealed.  Booming drives didn't help.  I wound up carding a double on 10, good drive just off the fairway.  Blocked out by trees I attempted to fade a 6i...shanked it into the woods:  double.  Then a few holes later I managed to triple an easy par 4.  All-in-all a smooth +9 81.

With the AVX even one of my usual playing partners was impressed with my drives and some iron shots.  The chipping was so-so on most holes, but a few were very good.  Out of the wet sand traps I was really good!  The putting however.....aaaaakkkkk!  This is a much harder golf ball than I usually play.  I am getting accustomed to it, but it is going to take a bit.  But, had three in my pocket when I started the round, same three to end it.  So, I am not having horrible issues, just growing pains.

Shot a 78 on both the SQAIRZ today. I’ve shot a 78 before, but not hit almost every fairway. I think I was 80%. I also putted really well in them. Chips were also good. I had some approach shot misses but that’s an interesting thing. I usually draw the ball, but hit most approach shots straight. This is just the first round with the shoes so I need to adjust. Tomorrow will tell.

I could play golf every day and learn something new each time.

Played a nice semi private course today to utilize what was left of my summer golf pass. Definitely a challenging course since I've never played it, but played really well and shot a +4 76. I'd like to attack it again since I know now where to be aggressive and cautious.

Also, first time out with my new Nike Victory Pro 3 spikes shoes. These are just as comfortable as my New Balance, and had great traction as well! I'll try and update the post when it'll let me submit pics, says files too large but they're already compressed.

I broke 80 for the first time last weekend and it is was incredible. I've struggled to break into the single digit HC and have held 10-11 for a few years. I've shot 80 and 81 10+ times with a score worse than par finishing on 18

This time around, the vibes were high all day, I couldn't miss an iron shot, driver was in play all day, It was like nothing I'd ever experienced.

On top of that, I had my fair share of bogeys, but the 5 birdies(!) helped steer the ship and keep the vides high. The one blow up hole I had was sandwiched between birdies - going birdie, triple, birdie, which is the same as par bogey par.

On 18 tee I was +4. I hit my first bad drive and almost missed the ball on 18 tee with a thin, skulled, 5 feet off the ground ball flight was luckily carried a creek and ended up rolling like a madman into the left rough leaving me ~250 to the middle of the green (par 4). I hit a very tentative hybrid since I just needed to keep it in play and needed better than a 9 to break 80, and I left myself a straight forward 50 yard pitch onto the green. Once I hit it to 12ish feet I knew I could celebrate. I still almost 3-putted because I couldn't control my emotions, but ultimately ended up shooting +5 76 to break 80 for the first time.

Now, how do I manage expectations? was that a unicorn round, or will my average score just bo closer to 80-82 since I don't have the pressure to shoot under 80 anymore?

Either way, I can't stop thinking about that round, and I can't wait to tee it up again.

Amazing round! I have had some good rounds lately, and all i can think about is... when's this ride gonna end? Am I suddenly better than my friends permanently?

I subbed in for my father-in-law’s golf league tonight. Really kind of a mixed bag. Lots of positives from the tee and iron shots including a couple of my best ever drives. Got off to a weird start around the greens and just couldn’t shake it. Could not for the life of me get a feel for distances on the green. Really tough to strike the ball fairly well and give it all away inside 20 yards.

I've played twice since the weekend. I went in Monday with practice round in mind considering the backlog of traffic in front of me and managed to get through 4 holes before I decided I rather go to the gym than continue to play on. I was trying to hit draws and hooks on every shot-- more or less trying to stop trying to hit perfectly straight shots on every hole.

I played the same 9 yesterday that I have been tearing up recently with two +1 rounds. I had 7 pars one bogey and one double-- the double due to a blown iron, high chip that became an inadvertent flop and to top it all off I missed the 5 footer. I somehow shot 3 over with only making one or two putts over 3 feet. I can't tell if it's bad reads or if it's mechanical.

Either way that makes 3 of the last 4 rounds in the 30s on that 9.

Not about me, but Nelly Korda was crushing it until she bounced a ball to the right into water on 16, the par 3 in Paris. She dropped in the drop zone, hit a ball into the bunker, then to the back of the green, then putted her way to a quad bogey. Then bogeyed the next hole. She went from -6 and two strokes from the leader to -2. Hard to watch but we’ve all been there. My question is, why did she have to play in the drop zone instead of taking relief from where the ball hit in front of the green and then bounced in the water?

How I did yesterday:

IMG_5889.jpeg.decae941f25fc3c4a04ce406ad33f5bf.jpeg

Hit the first 4 fairways and was a wedge out on the first three. 3 two putts. Hole 4 is a huge dogleg left so hit to the corner with 7iron then just to the right of the green with 7iron then two putt. 5 I put in trees and had to scramble to make 4 with one putt. Same with 6. 7 was a blowup, two putts. 8 was a wedge and one putt. 9 was deep rough and two putt. 10 was short of green for eagle chip, one putt. 11 was wedge in and two putt. 12 was duffed drive and tree issues, one putt. 13 was just off green in regulation and two putt. 14 was back of green, chip and one putt. 15 was fringe, chip and one putt. 16 was another duffed drive, green in 3 and two putt. 17 was just off the green, chip and one putt. 18, my nemesis hole, was a good drive, topped the 6 iron twice, chip and one putt. Ugh so close to it all coming together again.

I could play golf every day and learn something new each time.

Then I hit the practice area for about 2 hours to work on chipping and putting.   I struggled a bit with the DB,  as I did not have any warm up with it. so off i went to get re- acquainted with it.

Had maybe the weirdest day I've had on the golf course in a long time.  I was feast or famine in the tournament with 4 three putts, 6 one putts, a quintuple (5) bogey after hitting my third shot OB, a triple bogey, and a double.  And yet, with one birdie I managed to still shoot under 90 at 88.  Plus I'm getting 3 strokes back via net double bogey so it's an 85.....  I don't really have words.  But let's not stop there the score wasn't the weirdest part of the day.

We had two in our group sign up for their first tournament.  One was my cousin, who's solid.  Another was an older gentleman.  First hole, hits his tee shot left.  His feet are on the cart path so I trying to help out tell him he gets one club length from nearest point no closer to hole.  I go to my ball and look back to see him 30' off the cart path.  I shout for him that he needs to go take proper relief.  He does so.  Fast forward.  He's not having a good day and has 3 putt almost everything.  He pushes a short putt past the hole and before it stops brushes it back in.  I tell him that's two extra for playing a ball that's moving.  Fortunately I'm keeping the official card so I start counting all his strokes.  He's generally trying to shave 1 per hole.  Fast forward to #13.  He takes three to get on then again brushes his third short putt past the hole and brushes it back in for his 4th putt.  Ask him what he got and he tells me double.  I've had it, tell him that was three on, 4 in the hole, and 2 additional.  It's a +5.  He says mark whatever you like.  I tell him you have to play by the rules and you have to count every stroke.  It's a tournament.  He huffs and we make our way to #14.  Hit my tee shot and the dude can no longer contain himself.  Asks me if I have a problem with him.  I reply, "no, I do not.  You just need to count all your strokes."  He tells me to stop telling him how to play and I'm acting like I'm the chairman of the rules committee.  I reply, that its our job to protect the field and that in a tournament you have to play by all the rules.  At this point he asks me if I want to settle it (as in fist fight).  I'm like no dude, wtf, but I will be talking to our organizer after this and I don't think you'll be playing with this league again.  He's quiet for the rest of the round and I make sure to count all of his strokes.  Though with my troubles on 18 I missed a couple and his 'double' was in fact an 8 -- pointed out to me by the unfortunate dude riding in his cart.  Talked to the organizer after and I'd be very surprised if the dude isn't persona non-grata after this.

Strange day.

Played after we had a very rainy start to the week, and although there were some spots with standing water or very soggy ground, the course wasn't too waterlogged.

Wind picked up during the round, and it actually aided me for my long drive of the day.

Shot a 76 with 10 of 14 fairways, 11 of 18 GIR and 2 natural birdies. 1 of the birdies came on a handicap hole for me, so adjusted score would have made an eagle.

Some pictures below, showing ho0le 2 with a 3 some ahead of me, but much to our dismay, the next hole, a par 5 seemed to have a "back-up."

Last couple pictures are holes on the back 9 and it did open up after making the turn.

Hoping to get another round in tomorrow, as my weekend again is filled with prior commitments.

@rkj427 Nice. So tell me, how bad are the state birds?

Fortunately, they are not too bad at this course.

When I play at Stony Creek Metropark they are much more prevalent, along with all of the other wildlife in a 4000+ acre park with a lot of woods and water.

Was able to sneak out back for a quick 9. Pretty happy with my game right now, with the exception of hitting cuts with the driver. I'm usually a high draw guy, but the infamous cut is back so I'm trying to play it. Worked out well, shot a -2 and missed a couple birdies by a hair. Almost holed a 70yd approach, chipped one bird in, just feeling good. Tomorrow I'll prolly shoot +10 or some crap.Screenshot_20240809_103009_GHIN.jpg.b5a161941baa8c770b0d08019802bc98.jpg

For those who commented about my round yesterday,  thank you! It was a great day!

Got back out for 9 holes this afternoon.  Had some personal things to handle in the morning so couldn't then

It was blistering hot! 110⁰ in the shade. Had a few great shots, had a couple blow ups too. But had some nice recovery shots too. My hero clubs were the 19⁰ hybrid and the 7i today.

Par5, 235 yard drive, 210 yards out, absolutely smacked the hybrid to 180 and had 30 yards of roll out, up on to the green, and stopped 8 feet from the pin. Putted for eagle.

Par 3, 151 yards, back right pin. 7i.  launched the ball just to the right, and drew back and caught the side hill.  Ball hopped and rolled 10' away pin high. Putted for birdie.
