cnosil
A few days late but on Wednesday I got out and shot a best ever score of 85! Didn't really do anything incredible, just played pretty solid golf and was able to scramble when I did get in trouble. No birdies, but only one triple, two doubles, and a bunch of pars and bogeys. Putting is normally my strongest part but had been miserable recently (one round with three 4-putts) but felt good again. Chipping was solid and left myself with some short ones which led to 5 holes with 1 putt or less and 31 total putts for the round. Previous best was 87 and going to par 5 18th at 79 really wanted to get 85. Don't think I hit a shot more than 100 yards on that hole but got up and down for bogey. Now I just need to get in enough work with driver so I can hit that off the tee instead of 3-wood every time!Congrats on a new personal best. Popular Post CarlH
Better ball striking today than yesterday (thank goodness!!!!) but I wasn't putting as well as I normally do. (If it ain't one thing, it's another). Shot an 81. Grabbed a demo driver out of the ProShop for something different. It was an Epic Max LS with a 50g R shaft. Wanted to grab and Epic Speed, but they were checked out already. With the Max LS, the kick point of the shaft wasn't working for me. I hit the shots low, but got plenty of roll out on the fairways. I really didn't care for the sound coming off the Callaway driver, either. Maybe tomorrow I'll try out a Ping 425, if one's available, although I would try out an Epic Speed (I can get used to the sound if the results are better than my current driver). cksurfdude, yungkory, Curtis Atkinson and 12 others 15 Quote Driver: Rogue ST Max (10.5* set at -1 and neutral) -- Mitsubishi Tensai Blue 55g R shaft Fairway: Rogue ST Max 3 wood (16.5*) and Heaven Wood (20*)-- Tensai Blue 55g R shaft Hybrids: Rogue ST Max 5H (23*)--Tensai Blue 55g R shaft Irons: Apex CF19 6-9, PW, AW -- KBS Tour Graphite TGI 70 shafts R +1/2 inch 3* upright Wedges: Edison 53* and 57* KBS PGI 80 Graphite +1/2 inch 2* upright Putter: L.A.B. Popular Post RollingGreens
Finally got to play my home course today. I walked 9. I had no intention of playing today since I’m playing 18 tomorrow, but the weather was too good to pass up. From the start it was a very laid back round. One of the crew members was out mowing the lawn and for the life of me I couldn’t get his attention on the first fairway. Fingers crossed kind of moment that I didn’t hit him, but it all worked out. Not one person in the course the rest of the day. It was a great round. I was 2 over through 9 but I’ll admit we were playing to temporary greens so every hole was completely different and much easier. New irons felt great. Getting a strong feel for my driver off the tee which is exactly what I am looking for. Plus I walked 9 played 1 hole 2x all in an 90 minutes. I wouldn’t say I played fast either just with intent and purpose. Took all the practice swings I needed. Onto 18 tomorrow! Popular Post Jmikecpa
Played Black Heath today at Ford’s Colony. Made the turn at -1 and ended up shooting 73 (+2) thanks to a double on 13. Loved the course but 13 needs to be rethought and not because I shot a shot a sh!t number. There is water at 260 off the tee and a tree that you need to hit the ball under. I hit three wood clean into the water and not sure I have the ability to hit 5 wood or 4 iron under the tree. Other than that it was a fantastic layout and they let me play as a single with nobody but one group in front of me so I turned 18 in just over 2 hours with cart path only. Popular Post fixyurdivot
Man, I wish I could bottle up today's mojo. I arrived at Mesa Del Sol for our normal Saturday round only to find out a tournament was running about 90 minutes late . It was aa local charity event and one that involved lots of local military personnel... so no angst from me. The other guys really didn't want to wait around and elected to head home. I thought about just practicing a bit and doing the same but called to see if I could get on at Desert Hills (come on out, we'll get you on ). I played my first nine with another snowbirder from Colorado. My rhythm that was missing my last round was back. I kept re-focusing on tempo and my ball striking was very good. I shot a 37 front and 39 back (76) for my best winter round! The KBS TD driver shaft continues to pay dividends and moving me further downrange than normal. It's great feeling like the Truespec fitting and investment of time and $$ is paying off. I can only hope the new irons/shafts yield like results. Hole #18 is a major risk/reward tee shot. You can cut the dogleg left, uphill shot if you dare, but you need a high ball flight to clear the grouping of palm trees that routinely snare balls - and quite often keeps them. Flag small arrow and my aim point for today. With a really great round going, I thought about just hitting 3w and keeping danger out of play. But, the second local guy I was playing with egged me on, the wind was behind us, and I pulled the boomer . I didn't exactly forge it, but did get both the line and ball flight needed to clear the palms. It left me a 145 out for the second shot and I hit a nice 8i to about 12 ft. On the preceding hole we both hit nice shots into the par 3 #17 and he rolled in his putt for a birdie. He told me it was his first in a long time... he also said he was 81 years old (did not look it). He was beaming and I was happy for him. Really fun day. I could have shot 90 and been happy... but won't lie that the 76 made me even happier . Popular Post Chip Strokes
i had an 8:15 tee time this morning and got to the course at 7:45 only to learn that there was a 3 hour frost delay. it definitely got cold last night, but i really think the course did a horrible job of handling the delay. all the other courses in the area were only delayed 20-30 minutes. i was able to finally tee off at 10:20 when the starter stuck me in with a foursome who had a member leave due to the delay, i only got 9 holes in. shot 48 which i’m pretty happy with for my first time out this year i hit a few really good shots (7i from a fairway bunker to 4 feet) and a couple of stinkers (apparently i forgot how to chip over the winter). all in all, the sun was out, i kept the ball in play, and i was out playing golf. CarlH
Another really bad day today...well, the first 10 holes were....3 doubles and a triple -- no penalty strokes involved. I was just out of sorts, tempo way off, jerky-jerky from the top, and just plain ridiculous swings. Finally settled down on 12 and started playing golf the way I did not that long ago. Shot an 85 today, but it was butt-ugly. 13 over par after 11, then even par to close. Since we've started posting, my handicap index continues to rise as my mid-high rounds in the 70s are being replaced with low-mid rounds in the 80s. When I reproduce the swing that my coach and I are working on, I hit the ball very well. When it's off, it's really off, however. Mainly it's a tempo issue, getting much too fast and trying to hit the ball hard, as well as too much forward slide and not enough turn that gets me into trouble. When I remember to just slow down and swing within myself, I get the desired results. I'm just too much of a space-cadet to remember that. Even though I am struggling getting this swing down for a more consistent swing, I know it will get there. Meanwhile, some scores are going to suffer until it becomes a more natural feel to me. I took the Ping G425 Max out for a spin today (It wasn't the problem with those first 12 holes). I had hit it on the driving range and also hit my friend's Epic Speed. The Epic was definitely the longer of the 2 for me. Alas, I played the round with the Ping. I found it very forgiving and, for the most part, I kept it in play. I really disliked the sound and had difficulty determining the quality of the shot based on the sound made. I felt that I was longer with my own Ping G400, but the regular shaft in the 425 suited my swing better than the stiffer shaft in my own driver. Yesterday, I played with an Epic Speed LS and felt that it was longer than the 425, as well. Popular Post silver & black
First round of the year. It went poorly is an understatement...lol. I had the worst case of the lefts that I can remember... ever. I shot 93. Chipping was good. Putting wasn't terrible. Everything else went dead left... every time. Obviously a swing flaw right now. I need to get this fixed ... pronto! Edited March 21, 2021 by silver & black Kenny B, sirchunksalot, CarlH and 8 others

I'm still hitting the ball dreadfully short, up to two clubs with irons, but I was striking it solidly with my 1980 Golden Rams. Driver was going largely in the direction I'd intended, with one obvious hook into the water exception on the third hole, and I even hit my hybrid in the direction I'd intended. Funny how five days makes a difference. Ran out of gas on the last four holes, bogey/bogey/double for an 82. Reasonable at this point in the season. The PM Grind 58* I bought over the winter has been quite lovely. Nearly holed out from the sand for bird on a par 3, hit a couple lovely short pitches to exact distances.... really liking this stick so far. Still a little puzzled at my short game being somewhat decent at this point in the season, with zero practice. Oh, the Original One still doing the job. I love my PM Grind 60º. Wore the chrome off the sole with bunker shots, and it's my goto club around the greens. I haven't heard that Callaway is continuing it this year, so I bought a backup new one from my pro shop for $110. The fairways go dormant after first frost and then start to turn green again after there are no more frost mornings. Should start turning green in about two to three weeks. The greens are a different grass as well. They are green all year. There's just something about playing on brown grass. Of course I hadn't ever thought about the differences in certain regions until recently. I saw a post by Pete Pappas on Twitter and the grass in Ohio is already green. This is what we get.. cksurfdude, Kenny B, Shapotomous and 4 others
