    How'd you play?

+2 39 (par 37) 2/7 fir 6/9 gir 16 putts Had trouble seeing lines today, or I was just over-reading putts but I barely missed a couple birdies. Put the Tensei back in the Flash -- it just feels like I get way more output over the TZ6, so I guess the Accra is going up for sale. I hit only 2 fairways apparently, but at least 2 of them were very close.

    How'd you play?

Played MacDill AFB (Bay Palms) South this afternoon. Best round of the year so far. 81 with one birdie, and managed the back 9 at just 1 over par. Of course, with Hurricane Dorian just off the other coast it was a little on the breezy side. Then as I stepped to the 18th tee, light rain started up. I could only think, "... really..?"

    How'd you play?

Practice-played a Par 3, working (as always!) on making better iron and wedge shots. It's a fun little course; holes range from 85 yds (very slightly downhill) to 160 yds (uphill), and several of the holes have overhanging branches you have to watch out for. After a good tee shot on #1 that somehow turned into a double (huh?!?), I parred #2. Then with no one coming up behind me, I started playing two balls on #3 and while I didn't hit every green, most were the right distances and pretty close. Wedges continue to alternate between good and, uhh, not so good; putting was solid. Well except for that one hole where I landed a ball on either side of the pin .. ending up with two opposite sidehill putts .. and missed each one on the low side (huh!?!). Finished the round with pars and bogeys, generally one of each on each hole (playing two balls) except the shortest, with two pars, and the longest with two bogeys (two bad tee shots and then didn't chip on close enough). Still plenty of work to do on the irons and wedges, but making some progress.

  6. Back to the basics today. After shooting 79 two weeks ago, I've had a couple awful rounds spraying the ball all over the place. Worked on my takeaway and getting the shaft at a better position at P2. Drills courtesy Monte Scheinblum's Efficient Swing series.

  7. Yep, obviously I'd refer to you to the other thread as well, but here's the short version: for ~$500 (or less), you can get a Mevo or Sky Caddie that will tell you your ball speed, spin rate, and carry distance. The extra $1,500 for the SkyTrak (less right now, because they're doing one of their regular $300 off sales) is the cost for getting your sidespin rates, so that you know whether and how much your ball is curving. There are obviously software differences as well: you can use the SkyTrak as a full on simulator, but they will charge you (a lot) extra for additional features. I'm merely comparing base hardware. In my estimation, if you can afford it (obviously), the SkyTrak is a great investment in your game. A cheaper launch monitor can help you gap your clubs properly, and that's important. But because golf is a game of hitting targets, knowing whether you are in fact hitting your target is a big part of productive practice. I've had mine for a year, and am very glad I got it.

I won't go into it too deeply, but common core came about from research that while students were able to learn mathematics by rote memorization of particular algorithms, they could not apply that knowledge to advanced mathematics. Student lack, for all intensive purposes, "number sense" or the intuitive understanding of how numbers relate to each other. When I TA'd a physics 101 help group, students looked like deer in the headlights when I started applying formulas to problems. It got worse a month or two into the semester as a bunch of them got confused and complained about memorizing so many formulas. I showed them how the formulas all inter-related and how some formulas were actually the derivative of a formula they already knew. The light bulb finally went off for a few of them, lol. My complaint isn't about common core, but the timing of when kids are learning it. I say get the basics down first and then start common core in middle school. Having to learn the basics of mathematics, then throwing common core in there just muddles up everything leaving not only the students, but the parents frustrated as well. MDGolfHacker

  13. Following the trend, here are my current stats for the Cobras The hybrid should actually be an average of around 210 yards but it's still suffering from being used for every shot from 200 down for a week during the challenge. I also have my driver comparisons for you. First the Ping G400 LST ( remember I'm a lefty so left side is a fade or cut) This club is long but I missed left way too much. Now the Cobra F9 It too is long and I can hit a draw with it . How long? I hit a 293 yard drive in winter!! The 313 with the Ping was a very rare draw and on a beautiful, warm fall day. I love these clubs, they just work for me. Oh and my handicap keeps falling, it's down to 9.2 as of today

  15. Laws, regulations and policies for fund raising differ from state to state and from school district to school district. I’d recommend starting with making yourself really smart on the aforementioned. Once you are fully informed on what governs your efforts then you can move forward. The best place to ask for funding is your alumni association. If you don’t have one at your school then consider building one. Krispy Cream sales will only get you so far towards your end goal. A strong relationship with those who have an emotional attachment to the school will go a lot further than individual fund raising efforts. Your alumni yield a tremendous amount of economic power. Concurrently I’d attempt to build a relationship with vendors and sponsors. You might get some free stuff or at least discounted items making your end goal easier to attain. How'd you play?

45 4/7 fairways 1/9 greens 15 putts I couldn't hit driver today worth anything, everything was off the toe and short. Hit a couple that caught the ground before the ball, but fortunately my putter saved my round. I probably shouldn't mention how good the putter was because putters are fickle little beasts that will come back and bite you, but it's the best handicap Arccos has ever recorded with it. Heck, I didn't have a three putt. I spent the round experimenting with the set wedges and while they did ok, I really missed my 56 and 60. Sent from my SM-N975U using MyGolfSpy mobile app

  17. I was able to get out and play nine holes this morning and I want to discuss a couple of things. I'm going to start off with a subject that has been brought up here and in the Wilson D7 thread: delicate shots with the set wedges. After duffing a sand wedge on the first hole, I decided to make all my wedge shots with the Atomics. When I pulled the AW on the first I was left with about a 20 yard pitch shot to a pin that was tucked toward the front of the green. I hit a nice little shot that landed close to the flag and had it roll out about 20 feet. My tee shot on the par 3 6th ended up to the left of the green and the AW felt like it almost wanted to chunk, but I was able to get on the green even though I left it 25 feet short. My best chip of the day with the AW came on the 8th hole, a par 5. I hit a bad third shot with the 5 iron that went right and landed on one of the tee boxes on 7, leaving me a little over 50 yards out. I hit a nice AW that hit the green, but just rolled off the back side of it. What you can't see here is the green slopes down from here toward a creek. I could have putted, and seriously thought about it, but no guts no glory. I ended up here: The red circle is where I chipped from and was able to one putt for the bogey. The other thing I want to talk about is the four iron, I think I might be falling in love. After a rough start to the round, I was trying to take on some trees on the first hole and hit a terrible shot that left me with a punch out, also 4 iron, back into the fairway. Things got better after that. On the third hole I hit an atrocious duck hook drive, pulled the 4 and hit a nice shot that left me a little short of the green, and a chance to get bogey. I hit a beautiful drive on 5 with it. That's the longest shot to date I've had with it, and it felt amazing! After another terrible drive on 9, I hit another nice, long shot that just drifted right and left me with another punch shot under some branches that I left a bit short. I hit another AW that left me with a 30 footer that I somehow drained. It was another good round with the Atomics, shot 45 with just 15 putts. They saved my bacon today since I couldn't hit a drive for love nor money. Sent from my SM-N975U using MyGolfSpy mobile app

  18. After a very long and lengthy process and endless questions and research I decided to buy a new putter. I have been a life long Scotty Cameron putter guy. I have had various different shapes and styles of Scotty's through the years and have loved them all. My most recent gamer was the old Del Mar. I just love the head shape on that thing. Towards the end of last year I started missing a lot of putts that I felt I should be making, so naturally doubt started to creep into my head. I don't know about you, but once that gets in there, the club becomes dead to me. haha. I found this site and started reading a lot of posts regarding putters. As far as I was concerned, I was just going to get another Scotty. Low and behold, I kept seeing talk about Evnroll. It seems that almost everyone on here loves Evnroll. I watched reviews online and even watched on YouTube Mr. Rife explain the technology. I was intrigued to say the least. Now, being in Delaware and not having a lot of specialty golf stores around, I went on the hunt for Evnroll putters. I happen to have found Golf Galaxy carried them so I went to hit some to see what the fuss was about. I went with all intentions of switching to Evnroll if they felt half as good as to what everyone was saying. Long story short, I hit all the models they had, but below the Evnroll putters they had Bettinardi's line of putters. So I tried those too. I am so glad that I did! I picked up the Studio Stock #3 and have NEVER felt a putter this nice! The first thing I have to say about this putter is how great the finish looks on this. I absolutely love the gunmetal look. The head shape and set up are also right up my alley and the set up was perfect right out of the gate. This is the 35" model (I usually hit 34") but this one just fit!!! The head weight is perfectly balanced with a slight toe hang which fits my small arc swing path. Now the feel...ohhhhhh momma, the feel! This putter feels incredibly soft and forgiving. It lets you know where on the clubhead you hit your putt. The sound off the putter is a muted thud and not a high click sound like most Scotty's. I have so much confidence standing over any putt now it's amazing. I'm sorry Scotty, you make good putters, but to me, they don't compare to this Bettinardi! Evnroll, you come in second.

    How'd you play?

After 10 or so minutes with driver, 3h. and 6i, I was off to a quick 9 hole before Satan arrived to heat things up. Hit a fair 45, with 4 strokes due to penalty (OB and a splasher) and a rather comical sand trap event. My true amateur nature came through on that one! 16 putts, 5 FIR, 3 GIR. Average with the driver was 200+, hybrids played well. Big take away is that I rushed myself the last few holes to finish before the furnace kicked in. Last time I played this 9 I shot a 52, so I went to obtain more coffee with a smile

  26. I would say face angle and not path. I don’t know how left you path is, but face has more influence on the balls direction and if you can’t control the face, you can’t control speed. You now are saying you power with right side but earlier you said shoulders. If it is Right side dominant, then you are probably setup open or opening your shoulders and body a lot through the stroke. Obviously i have no pictures or video but something is making the path left. What drills do you do to practice face and path? What drills did the fitter say to use? I would suggest rolling the ball through a gate or down a ruler/chalk line. You have to get face angle and path to match up correctly or you can’t start the ball online consistently. This ties into how you swing and does the putter fit your swing. You say you want to change path, what are you doing to Change path? If you want to change path, put an object like a sleeve of balls inside the line past the ball and avoid hitting the sleeve with your putter and possibly outside the like behind the ball if you have a tendency to go outside on backswing.

  28. I will add my 2 cents. Demo days are not the best time to get fit as they are trying to see as many people as possible. A proper fitting will go through multiple shaft and head combinations for both irons and drivers. You as the buyer must have an open mind as well as something you might not think will work. I got fit for my driver at Club Champion. Do I hit this club well, yes, but do I think a shaft that was less expensive would give the same results, yes. I have the Accra Z465 shaft and I like it, but in hind sight I wish I was more informed as the consumer to try a less expensive shaft. In the end I think as the person buying the clubs you have to feel comfortable in what you are getting and have the performance match or exceed what you currently play to put new clubs in the bag.

  34. I'm going to sound a bit like a broken record here since I only have the 9 and W but these clubs are so good. They are rightfully identified as "scoring clubs." My one challenge with the i500's is the high center of gravity - that's an issue for me because I tend to be pretty shallow in my delivery. The Blueprints are so easy to play with differing approaches into the ball depending on the type of shot I'm trying to hit. I am really enjoying hitting different speed shots with these irons - I have talked about how good the Wedge is and it is but I want to talk about two particular shots with the 9 iron from Monday's round. The number 2 handicap hole at Kickingbird Golf Club is the par 4 4th - it typically plays into the prevailing wind and is a slight dog-leg right with woods guarding both sides of the fairway. The fairways pitches from right to left and has a fair amount of slope to it depending on where you land. From the blue tees, it plays 398 yards but plays a bit longer due to the wind. I hit a high baby fade off the tee with driver and left me with 139 yards with the ball above my feet. The wind freshened a bit and I almost pulled 8 iron with the intent of hitting a knockdown but with the ball being above my feet with a very tight lie, I hit a full 9 iron. I normally carry 9 iron 136 yards but with the wind I was afraid it would come up short - I took a good rip at it and though I hit it flush, I couldn't see where it landed. When I got to the green, I had a 6ft birdie putt below the hole (which I made ). Number 10 is a par 4 of 376 yards with a slight uphill tee shot that favors a draw. I had 127 yards left but I could just see the top of the flag - there was a slight breeze behind me and the ball was slightly on the upslope. I wanted to hit the 9 iron in order to flight the ball down and take some of the spin off the shot. I hit it very solid but I could see where it ended up. I had left myself about 8 ft below the hole and made birdie there as well. The only other birdie I had all day was on the par 5 15th (554 yards) and that was set up by my third shot of 119 yards to a back pin with the Wedge. These clubs are really, really good. I honestly don't think I will add any more because I enjoy the forgiveness of the i500 and I'm very interested to see what updates they might make to the i500 this next year but we will see. I really appreciate Shankster allowing me to share some of my thoughts about these great clubs!

  35. Interesting that so far we seem to like the accuracy but have issues with distance. I can hit the 6 iron farther than the 5 iron but I don't know when it's going to happen. As I mentioned in a prior post, the ladies set didn't come with a 4 iron but ShotScope shows that a couple of times I hit the 6 iron an even greater distance than my TaylorMade 4 iron. Except for my 6 iron I'm not experiencing a significant increase in distance on a consistent basis. I'm not wild about the distance being a surprise factor. But my 3 lowest scores are now with the D7s, so that part I like.

Quick 9 yesterday...awful putting day. It was actually amusing after the third hole when I realized I had zero touch. I took my own advice from a drill I shared here a few days ago and started to putt to an area of the hole for my makable putts inside 12’. I was essentially lag-putting everything. I had 17 total putts for a 39 on an otherwise fantastic ball striking day. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy

Or one could just needlepoint: "What good thy lengthy drive if thou f*ckest up thy putt"... the outer blue is the interior furry bit, colored to be like the lining of a space suit. the idea is an ode to the 50th anniversary of the moon landings and nobody has a space based headcover out there. including the scotty cameron one that just silver and people gave it the misnomer of calling it the "nasa cover," it ain't. edit: I'd also like to point out to anyone who hasn't noticed that one tag can vary with the text written and one of those ideas is to honor Alan Shepard who hit what is most likely the longest shot in the history of golf with a 7 iron on the surface of the moon (yea, longer than the 19th at legends etc etc)... and thus he is also the only person to have played golf on not the earth...

Am I allowed to comment on this? Ideally there would be a true playoff - 8 team minimum - you have the 5 power conference teams and 3 at large with the stipulation that any undefeated DI team is in so long as they played at least 12 games against other DI schools. Problem solved I used to love college football - I'm trying really hard to get back into it - you guys need to help me out here.

  45. My son is a competitive junior player and got fitted quite well. However, I went to the same guy and after 9 weeks of trying could never hit the irons he put me in well. Went back to my previous set and hit them great. Didn't need new irons but was lured by shiny new toys I guess. My main takeaway is this, first off if you don't get fit using the ball you normally play it's almost worthless. Second, it's more than numbers, feel and looks do matter. Third, hitting off mats is not same as hitting off grass. Finally, and I think this was part of my issue, the weight of the shaft and overall weight of the club wasn't taken into consideration. I ended up in 105 gram shaft which is too light. Went back to a S300 shaft in my old clubs and hit the ball great.

  46. I’ll start with the last statement. Putting is about making choices. When you make a choice, the stroke is changed in someway to account for that change. For example moving back away from the ball will have a tendency to make the putter rotate more. Moving more over the ball it will rotate less. Now tying that into you first bolder statement about the right side powering the stroke. Think about where your body is when you swing. If you power the stroke with your left arm you can’t bring the putter inside on the backswing because your body is in the way. On the follow through you are past the body and the shoulder rotation brings you more inside. The opposite is true for a right side powered stroke. The body doesn’t stop the right arm from coming inside on the backstroke but does inhibit on the follow through. By using the right side more you might be able to reduce the left stroke bias. If you don’t want to change how you power the stroke, setup a little closed and swing the putter the way you always have. Lots of options, but as I said you need to make choices to get everything working together.

  48. So, I wanted to post some frustrating videos. Typically when I read reviews, everything is sunshine and roses. And I do not want to go the opposite way because I have had a great time with these irons, except for the short wedges. If you have been a reader, you will see I have called for V2 of these clubs to be a blended set of hollow faced long irons from the 4-7i and a straight muscle back 8-w. Some videos below capture my frustration with the short wedges, especially in the rough. Video 1 - I hit the longest drive of my life. Hole is measured at 450 yards and I blew it by the 150. The tees were up a bit, approx. 30 yards, so we will call it 420. I had a nice roll and hit it ~ 320. Never before had I achieved this length. Then I fatted the 60 yard approach shot.....ARRRGGGGHHHHHH..... Hit the best drive of my life.....then this... Here is the frustration boiling over. Within 7 rounds with these, i've fatted the short "P" wedge and "A" wedge at least 10 times. Then I wanted to show you a comparison video of the "P" vs the Titleist Vokey. I hit both clubs the same. The Atomic came off "hot" but came up short. The Vokey popped up and landed softly. I am struggling with the delicate chips. Atomic vs Vokey results - Frustrating So these videos are some of the "bad" if you will. I am trying to chalk it up to poor ball striking and some of my issues definitely are. BUT, even the ones I hit well are very tough to control around the green. The thick chunky soles do not go through the rough as well as a blade, but we know this right? So, now that the bad is out of my system, here is the greatness of these irons. I was on a par 3, 142-yard hole. Water in front left, pond behind the green. I pull the 9-iron and proceed to toe it big time. Barely hit the grooves. This is what "FORGIVENESS" means. The ball flew high and straight.....hit the green, bounced once and came to a stop. I was very impressed with the way the club reacted in this spot. After good rounds and bad rounds, I think I have a very good handle on these irons. And as I continued my evaluation, I realize my initial thoughts and feelings are still accurate...for me. Give me a blended set of these and I'm playing them all the time. I still think these are good for beginners as well as being very helpful for ANYONE who needs forgiveness in long irons and even shorter irons off the tee. I usually hit my 5 iron 185 yards, but I can bomb the Atomic 5 iron 200 yards. It really can take the place of a hybrid if need be. Hopefully you enjoyed these videos. Hit me up with any questions you may have.
